I've been using Harken ratchets on Sunfish and Lasers for decades. Definitely an option that you can't miss with. They have a new model out that is supposed to grip a little better that has a metal shiv. I have an extra that I was just about to return to the Dinghy Shop (new, unused in the original packaging). If you have any problem securing one please let me know and I can ship it to you instead. Cheers, Mark Mark A. Kastel Kastel@... 608-625-2042 -----Original Message-----

I installed a Harken 2135 57mm Manual Ratchet Carbo Block, Harken Stand up Spring for Dinghy Main Sheet Blocks, and Harken Harken Spring Cup. This is 3 items from Intensity Sales. It cost me $68.47 on 6/3/20. I am happy with it. You can turn on or off the ratched. I've never turned it off. Lane ------ Original Message ------

Re: Ratchet block
开云体育Hi Dennis,Last summer, I installed a Harken 57mm ratchet block, and use a boot spring to keep the block upright. The block has a switch exposed on both sides to bypass the ratchet mechanism. I’d considered the ratchamatic model, but figured I’d always be close enough to the block to switch it off in light wind, and therefore wasn’t worth the higher price point. Very happy with my setup so far! Hope this helps, Kyle

Re: Ratchet block
Dennis, I'm watching this thread. I just removed a ratchamatic from my newish Sunfish because I could not figure out how to use it. Now I see they are quite spendy so it must be something I need to learn about. Thanks for bringing this up. Re: Bailer
Clark, I just noticed the link to your Owners Manual book. Ordered it from Amazon, will get it later this week. I'm gonna need to learn how to dry out my waterlogged Sunfish. Thanks for all you do! Re: Coaming #coaming questions

Depends on whether you have the pop rivets or rivet nuts with machine screws. Pop rivets drilled out with a 1/4 inch steel bit. Machine screws as mark mentioned.?

Re: Where to find a bailer in stock?
#bailer
It's a 1972 or 74 with an a metal bailer that used to have a brass screw-in plug in the footwell. ?I'm finding there is no standard plastic plumbing connectors at my hardware store that fit the thread or the diameter of the original. ?So i'm hearing it is one inch diameter by 16 threads per inch. I have a new plan. ? I have some casting silicone putty and resin, a small kit usually for casting jewelry. I'll try to make a mold of the threaded tube in the flexible silicone, then cast a positive in resin. ?If the resin fits, I'll cast it again using thinned 2-part JB Weld, which is pretty darned tough. ?And i'll still have it before the real thing arrives from the dealership, darn it.

Re: Where to find a bailer in stock?

I think what he is asking for is on an old metal bailer what the diameter is of the cap. Since it is different than the newer plastic ones. Dealers aren’t the issue laser performance is the issue can’t get parts to dealers.?

Hi Mark, What year is your SF ?? The difference is mainly in the length of the center threaded part that comes up from the hulls bottom. The two sizes have to do with the thickness between the outer and enter hull (cockpit) I have had good luck by simply reducing that length.. (cutting off what isn't needed to secure the interior cap to the hull). Naturally, a clean cut, when needed, should be attempted. For reasons that I don't quite understand, these bailers have become difficult for dealers to keep in stock. I hope this helps mate. bob On Thu, Aug 20, 2020 at 8:58 PM Mark Suszko <mark.suszko@...> wrote:

Yeah, that's not efficient. ?I did that tonight, bought 4 pieces that I thought might work, added up to an hour's time and almost twenty bucks and only the $1.19 rubber cork worked. But I want better than a rubber cork. Surely, some Sunfish owner out there knows the size and threads per inch for the brass cap or the plastic one with the flip-top?
