Re: 2023/24 Membership For Another Year of SubaruVanagon - THANKS!
Group Moderator
We¡¯ve passed our goal for subscription fees. We again have money ¡°in the pot¡± to use for next years subscription dues. ¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª- ¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª- 2023/24 Surplus ? ? ? ? ? ?$51 ? Thank you to each of you that pitched in.?
For the first issue - I¡¯ll update my instructions to explain the ?PayPal steps better.? For the second issue - I accepted personal donations for several years and found out that it was more difficult to track and maintain funds (keeping track of your money) during the year. Besides, there was always that temptation to abscond with the 200 something bucks and live another year in Mexico!! ?So no donations accepted to my personal PayPal, sorry.? Again, thanks for your ongoing subaruvanagon posts and your financial support.? best, |

2023/24 Membership For Another Year of SubaruVanagon
Morning Folks. To give you a short history, we migrated in 2019 and have run off of membership funding since that time. Our group uses more than the allotted 1 gig of photo/attachment/files storage which is available for a free group. A poll/vote was held in November of 2020 wherein members voted to maintain all of our content and fund the group. The next step up from free is the Premium Group which is how we roll.
In years past I asked for donations to be made directly to me as I am ultimately responsible for the payment to?. But now, I¡¯ve configured the group to allow donations/sponsorships through a newly available built-in function. I believe this will make things easier on you, the supporting member. There¡¯s a minimum sponsorship amount of $5.00 USD.?? I¡¯ll track the sponsorship activity/amount and once we reach our goal I¡¯ll send another notification to you all and disable the sponsorship link. Wondering how to sponsor us? Go to the home page at?/g/SubaruVanagon/ Click on the ¡°+ Sponsor This Group: button.
Fill out the form fields to complete your sponsor donation via PayPal or Credit Card.? Depending on where you live in the world, there may be additional payment methods available to you. Thanks very much for your continued support of the SubaruVanagon group. Your shared knowledge, conversion support posts, and sponsorship, are very much appreciated.? Best, |
Help Identifying Conversion History 1986 Syncro with 6cyl Subaru
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýrecently purchased a repainted blue 1986 Syncro with a six cylinder Subaru conversion. CarFax shows car has lived in Oregon, Washington and Idaho over the years, changing hands mote often in the past few years.?Appears to have rebuilt transmission as case looks fresh. Vehicle came with no documentation so I am hoping to find out who did the conversion, and the harness, any info on the transmission and other helpful facts so I can avoid duplicating work already done.? Thanks in advance if you can help I.D. This van. |
Re: High and sticky RPM
But for the most part, my issue was mainly the PCV and getting my VSS sensor connected correctly. I tried 3 different kinds of VSS. ?This one was the winner. ?
I wrote about it above relating to what I had to do to convert the 12V Sourcing signal to the 5V Sinking signal using a relay. ? |
Re: High and sticky RPM
My idle was too around 950 for a while. ?Long story short when I got my block from my builder I am not sure it was in-fact my block. ?My block was a 99 with the PCV in the block, but when I got my block back I had a nipple there instead like a 2002 model. ?So I converted mine to this year and put the PCV in the intake. ?Trying to solve a oil burning issue I converted the PCV back to what it was supposed to be for that year with the PCV in the block and bam idle smoothed right out and is in the upper 700s. ?

Re: High and sticky RPM
Kevin, I seem to have an early conversion with a 2006 EJ25 that has a later throttle body with a cable instead of drive by wire. I have resolved my issue so far by grounding the neutral position wire and the AT/MT wire. The rpm is much more smooth and doesn¡¯t hang while in neutral rolling to a stop. Although my idle is still around 925rpm. |
Re: Hi Billy,
All I know is this:? whenever you fiddle around and cleanup stuff, the Engine Computer has to adjust to new parameters.? Right?? Doesn't this make sense?? With a mild cleanup, computer will slowly move backwards.? With? a major cleanup like total IACV and Throttle Body, best to just go back to original engine and computer parameters.? Same thing happened to my on my Toyota Highlander after Throttle Body cleansing.? yeah, it took a while for that computer to comprehend and readjust itself.? By design...the computer will only allow for incremental adjustments..and this is a good thing.

I have a 90¡¯ Syncro with an EJ25 and I have the exact same RPM issues as Billy. My VSS sensor is working properly and showing close to correct speed on the OBDII reader. I have cleaned all throttle body sensors and and just the TPS to .500. Any other advice?? thanks! |
Re: High and sticky RPM
Nick,
?? Your signature says you have a 2006 EJ25 with a throttle cable. What do you mean by that, since all (least in North America) 2006+ EJ25 Subaru's were drive by wire.? ?I know some of the Drive-by-wire cars, depending on conditions (usually in gear and rolling a bit) will raise the idle speed to @2500 rpms or so. |
Re: High and sticky RPM
Another tip:? once things are all cleaned up, the ECU is confused, it's used to dirty stuff.? Reset ECU to nominal; this is accomplished by disconnecting Negative Terminal to starter battery; then, run a jumper from Positive Terminal to the Ground Strap, not the negative terminal!!!!? Let it go overnight; this will drain all remnants of electricity in capacitors in ECU.? Everything is back to factory.? It will take about 20 cycles of start-run-shutdown for ECU to get used to new parameters....but it will get there.

Re: EJ22 AC compressor fitment guidelines?
Jason, I did a Small car in dash A/C on and older 84 vanagon westy a few years back. The kit was complete it did feel somewhat intimidating with the dash completely opened up but it was a good conversion ?It is a very good upgrade.
