evoscan works .. partially
Hi Again .
I'm using the evoscan 3.0 to fine tune a rebuilt 1994 (OBD1) 2.2 legacy AT NA in my VW syncro. I finally got things hooked up and running . I captured some data . However .
Be aware . the software come with virtually no info and you have to join facebook to? ask questions . Understandably mot folks are not interested in OBD1 applications so im hoping someone here has some experience to share .? 2 things to know . Your purchase receipt has a code you need to activate the software and I had to get the USB driver from the TTL232 cable manufacturer here?https://ftdichip.com/drivers/d2xx-drivers/ I can see a fault code from the black blug diagnostics connector blinky lights on the dashboard (#24) but doesn't come up using the read DTC function in the software ... Q- do i need to connect the black read connectors to read the codes via the software ? will it work with power only or needs engine running. Also there are 2 sets of 8 binary parameters Binary parameters that should be available :
Q- Is evoScan able to display these values ? |
Re: alternator upgrade question 3 pin to 2 pin
Thanks Brent, I think I've referred to your website since my first conversion 15 yrs ago (cutting out the poptop to install a decent skylight if I recall).
I solved the problem and it was a simple as it gets . I had a pile of skid plate .bumper & undercarriage parts powder coated and I threw in a few engine brackets etc. while i was at it . i tested ground continuity between the alternator & bracket and it was fine but after systematically testing i found the bracket to the block was completely isolated .. rather than bull the bracket I added a dedicated ground wire. I can confirm the >14V output @ 2k RPM . I connected White "S" connector directly to the B+ post . I have seen Web knowledge that it may be better to get that feedback directly from the +ve? post on the battery and ill be checking that today.?? While I'm confessing to rookie moves ill share a a tip . Test your coolant setup before bolting on the intake manifold ... I sourced some non OEM bolts for the water manifold and spotted significant coolant weeping onto the block after assembling everything. Turns out the bolts were bottoming out and when i torqued them to spec they didn't compress the new O rings. That one took forever to figure out? (thankfully its required only low torque) .Those 4 long bolts were off by 2-3 mm.? |
Re: High and sticky RPM
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýHave you tried wiggling the wiring harness in different places while it¡¯s running at idle? Could be you have a short or bad connection somewhere in your harness. On Jan 14, 2023, at 11:16 AM, ANDREW <andrewvanis@...> wrote:

You just spray carb cleaner into it and/ or let it soak and use q-tips to clean the interior it as much?as possible. ?? On Sat, Jan 14, 2023 at 23:08 Robert F. Chhaing-Carleton (Douglas) <mindeyed@...> wrote: Hi Wayne, How did you clean it? |
Re: Beta Testers
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýYup¡ªa few people have responded. ?I need to test a few things on rigs we don¡¯t build. ?
I am keeping a tally right now if interested parties. ?I will be sending out details in coming weeks for what we are looking to test,

Re: Idle fluctuation on a Frankenmotor OBD1
Cleaning the IAC fixed stalling at a stop for me. Recent YouTube vid mentioned the PCV regarding surging with a Subaru.? Agree the hoses are likely hard and leaky. An old analog multimeter with a needle works for picking up the VSS signal.Assume you used new intake manifold gaskets.

Re: Idle fluctuation on a Frankenmotor OBD1
Hi Robert.? may be 2 different issues.? idle fluctuations can be IAC related or vacuum leak.? Check/clean iac. Thoroughly check for vacuum leaks and replace hoses as needed. Stalling at light is often hall (speed) sensor related.? Test it with wheel rotating to ensure its picking up the signal properly. Adjust as needed.? best |
Idle fluctuation on a Frankenmotor OBD1
Hi folks,?
I had a frankenmotor installed after my EJ22 failed.? Instead of rebuilding, we put a new EJ25 block on the existing rebuilt EJ22. With EJ22 I had no idling issues. All the parts are the same except the block. System is an OBD1 from a 1991 Legacy.? The idles surging is very slight. Slight up and downs, no power loss or hesitation.? Stalls sometimes coming off the freeway and stops (new speed sensor as well) Any ideas where to start or a list of things I can go over to try and settle this issue? |
Re: Engine temp running too cold 2000 EJ25
Depending on the orientation of your water pump, the tiny valve on the thermostat either points towards the back of the van or up to the heavens.? Mine looked like it would only fit in one orientation in the housing when I put it together.? I just DIY a 99 EJ5.? I did check this when assembling but really didn't know there was a correct orientation.? Mine runs on the hotter side.? Upon startup it peaks at 205 and then settles into the upper 190's.? I just fired it up within the last couple months so I am concerned in the when it warms up this may be an issue. ? |
Re: High and sticky RPM
no VSS causes ALL sorts of problems.? until you get that in there, any other diagnosis may be off base....Like on the Samba first?thing is "Change your fuel lines!"...on here, maybe the first thing might?be "Get a VSS to the ECU!" Re: High and sticky RPM
Yes it is still disconnected. ?
I have not VSS signal ATM. ?I have plans to use my the signal off the speedometer converting that signal to 5V with a relay. ?I bought al the parts but have not installed it yet (weather, my van was in the garage but since I took it out that space has been filled :( ).? |
Re: Fuel Tank/System Odd Behavior
I used this from Summit. ?
I think I got in and out correct because it is stamped "Tank" right on it which is the way I set it up. ?So my bottom evap rail goes to the original hose on the passenger side firewall which goes to the unlabeled male end on the canister. ?Tank went to tank. ? I used this fuel filter. ?If you have recommendation Austin I am all ears.? |
