Re: Engine Cuts out - No ECU Codes - Bad VSS or Fuel Pump???
So....I may have found the culprit!
I went out and poked around in the engine compartment, and when I wiggled the coilpack wire, the engine shut off.
I turned the engine back on, and repeated the

Re: Engine Cuts out - No ECU Codes - Bad VSS or Fuel Pump???
Tom,
Forgive the ignorance, but how do I go about checking the Ignition On Signal? Is the parking light test the only way?
A short update too. I drove the van this morning after it sat in cooled

Re: Cheapest cost, out the door
Haven't attempted it yet but I'm looking at the kit from smallcar about 3000 and a motor at around 1500-2500. Hoping to get it done for under 6k.
Hope that helps ;)

Re: Cheapest cost, out the door
Yes, Message #32846 was my 1st one. The one I'm driving now was around $3k, these were all early 90 2.2s.
It all depends on what kind of deal I could find on the

Re: Cheapest cost, out the door
Quick question.
Are those $3,000 supposed to include the new engine too? Or only the parts and the work?

SVX: Idle Fixed; Still Hesitates though...
Update: My 92 SVX (in an 85 2WD Westy) now idles perfectly. The culprit was an intermittent VSS signal. Many thanks to Brian and friends at Small Car. Two year old VSS sensor was replaced no charge

Re: Engine Cuts out - No ECU Codes - Bad VSS or Fuel Pump???
Hi Gavin,
I would also suggest checking you Ignition ON signal - any chance the switch is giving problems. If you have the Park lights ON (Instrument cluster lights ON)- do they blink or go OFF when

Re: vss sensors
Living here in the coastal rainforest, I can confidently say there's no way
that the rain had any effect on the cruise control sensor in the dash pod.
I would first inspect the wiring in the engine

Re: Engine Cuts out - No ECU Codes - Bad VSS or Fuel Pump???
Scott,
Correct, the needle drops to zero instantly.
The tach is being run off the ECU signal.
The van worked just fine when I drove it in to town, but a few hours later, this behaviour started.

Engine Cuts out - No ECU Codes - Bad VSS or Fuel Pump???
I've got a OBDII EJ22 in my 1985 manual westy.
While driving today, the engine cut out(shut off) when I was in third gear, right about at 4400rpm. As soon as I let off the gas, the engine functioned

Remember that there is an alternative to the subaru sender/inline
resistor which will provide you with accurate vanagon gauge
readings.....

As I recall, the blinking light has no relation to coolant temperature or resistor selection. When the light blinks, it only means that the two prongs in the coolant reservoir cap are no longer
