Re: Engine Cuts out - No ECU Codes - Bad VSS or Fuel Pump???

Tom,

Forgive the ignorance, but how do I go about checking the Ignition On Signal? Is the parking light test the only way?

A short update too. I drove the van this morning after it sat in cooled overnight. When heading in(15 minutes driving total), I didnt have any issue, in any gear. The vehicle revved just fine in all gears. When I pulled in, I had somewhat of a loping idle...lower than usual too. It would go from 500rpm to 900rpm and back down; not the typical even idle of 750 or so.

When I left at lunch just now, I had no issues either. I made a few stop, and when I started home from the van cut out the same as before.

I did a couple of revving tests, and it would rev past 4400 out of gear, and in gear, it almost felt as though it cuts out when I rev it hard, instead of gradually.

So, does how I rev it mean something, and the fact that it happens when warmed mean anything? What is this new idle issue?

Thanks all.
Gavin

Hi Gavin,
I would also suggest checking you Ignition ON signal - any chance the switch is giving problems. If you have the Park lights ON (Instrument cluster lights ON)- do they blink or go OFF when your stalling happens?
Not sure how this could be rpm related - but worth a check.

Have you checked your grounds and power supply?

Scott,

Correct, the needle drops to zero instantly.

The tach is being run off the ECU signal.

The van worked just fine when I drove it in to town, but a few hours later, this behaviour started.

if by 'my RPMs slam over to zero and the engine shut off.'

you mean the tach needle drops to zero instantly ..
then I would ask what you are running your tach off of ..
ignition via diodes ( what I prefer )
or from ECU tach signal.
