I've got a chop saw sitting under a plastic bag in the
back yard. A DeWalt. Was designed for a carbide metal
cutting blade but came to me with a 14" cutoff wheel. The
correct blade costs more than I paid for the saw, but would
probably shatter the glass in a DRO scale. IIRC you can get
diamond blades that will cut metal, but I think they're even
more expensive. If you show up on my doorstep I'll give it
to you.?
It works as is for cutting metal but it's too loud and
sprays hot sparks everywhere. I used it once. Hosed down the
grass behind it, and put the bag over it. I think even the
grit disk is too percussive for a glass scale.?
Must be nice to have $$ to buy stuff like he has in his
shop. All pretty and new. :)

Great.
Thanks. I was envisioning a diamond wheel on a
dremel.
It's
been 3 years, but I believe I scored it with a
diamond file and snapped it on a sharp edge.
Could have used a glass cutter. Might have used
a Dremel with a diamond cut-off wheel sold at
Harbor Freight.

How
did you cut the glass scales?
I
have the Clausing version. Buy scales that
are longer than the travel
distance for each direction. The scales
can be shortened (even glass
scales). I bought a Chicom kit sold on
Ebay by 200 different sellers.
The scales were glass. It took some time
to disassemble the scales and
cut them, but it was not that hard to do.
I did not use the included
mounting hardware preferring to make my
own for a better fit. It has
been 3 years since the install and it
works great. If you buy one, I can
send you a manual that I found online,
which is much better than the one
written by the slave laborer for my kit.
