Re: Small Tool and Die Shop Liquidation

I recently figure that it would cost me about $700 to go visit my brother at his new place in Missouri, and I'm not sure the poor old truck would make there. No way is it going to make it to New York. Though I saw a small benchtop surface grinder on ebay a while back and the seller want $3k for it. That's about half of what I have in my shop, total. Maybe more. And that is nobody's fault but my own!?

It's a little too big to be worn as jewelry, even for Mr. T, but it is very delicate and shiny. ;) I thought I'd use it to make some small stuff for my shop, but the school had a 10" rotary table, and all I ever used that for was the one project they had us make for? class. Hi all:
I am a member of a Makerspace specializing in the machine shop.? If the Makerspace is a 503C (I believe I got that right) non-profit, they can issue documentation of the donation that can be a tax write-off.

Hi all,??

I have been lurking for a while..
I have a dilemma.?? I need to liquidate the machinery from my Dad's small tool and die shop.?? Most of it is Late 70's to early 80's.? It was all purchased new and well cared for.? The biggest problem is they have been sitting for 20 years, so they have collected some surface rust that needs to be cleaned off.
I am in Western New York.
Does anyone have any ideas where I can best sell the machines?

Thanks
Roger

I'd be interested in the surface grinder & heat treat oven, and maybe the millerite mill & vise, myself. I wouldn't be able to go pick them up though. Shipping is going to be costly, as well. Means I'm probably out of the market.?

Here' s the list,? everything was purchased new by my Dad and was only use by him or myself.? I'm guessing on the years they were purchased and they haven't been really used since 2000.

1977? Bridgeport Series 1 with 4" riser block and DRO and set of R8 collets, Bridgeport vise
1978? Bridgeport Series 1 and set of R8 collets, Bridgeport vise
1969? Burke Millrite Mill, Millrite vise
1979? Harrison M300 lathe some collets and tools.
1967? Niagara 1 ton punch press
1978? Benchmaster 5 ton punch press
1978? Rockwell surface grinder
1978? Small heat treating oven

All of the smaller assorted tooling that goes along with these is likely worth as much as the machines.? (endmills, toolholders, drills, reamers, indicators, bases, gauge pins/blocks/etc...)

Not that those are particularly *easy* to ship either, but if you're open to it, I'm sure some folks here would be interested in buying things.? Can you post a gallery of photos of the shop shelf / drawer contents?

Not to mention, Bill, that you have no place to put a safety pin, much less a surface grinder and a mill.?

??? Don't consider using a auction house unless it's a total last resort . Their there to make them money not you . Another consideration is to see if there is a makerspace in yer area & you may want to donate some things to them .

Thanks
Roger

Re: Small Tool and Die Shop Liquidation

Kinda depends on if you need to just empty the shop, or you want to get best money out of it, and if you don't or do have time to catalog everything. There are equipment dealers all over the country that will buy from you for next to nothing, but they'll take every in the shop. And you can do it yourself if you don't need the place cleaned out in a hurry. You can even put the stuff on ebay yourself, particularly if you can crate or palletize the machines for shipment. you can also look at ebay for companies that sell such equipment and contact them about getting the stuff out of there.

Personally, I'd like it if you were able to offer some or all of his stuff here. ;)

If you don't have the Ilion rebuild manual I highly recommend it . Ya can buy it with or without wicks . Depending on the condition of yer lathe you may want/need the wicks kit . The book is a real good one to have , I think I probably would have put my QCGB back together 7-8 times if it wasn't for the manual .
