I totally dismantled my 9" SB and took it to a local engine rebuild shop to have it cleaned. The use a Caustic Dip tank which is pre heated to about 110 F. All the parts where put in the tank and left

I contacted Southbend and gave them my serial number 54810NAR10. It was made in June 1966. Cool............ $450.00 USD. rebuild paint it

Paul, SB is acutally reasonable on the wicks for the shaft and tailstock. Cost was $3 per foot and a foot is a lot of wick, like would last you a lifetime. Its a round felt solid rope about 3/16

I did see hard felt (SAE 20S2) on page 3015 of http://www.mcmaster.com/ online catalog. It says its "good for bearing seals, lubrication wicks and fluid transfer components." I think I might try a 12"
