As you say, we're all learning to an extent. I see Dumbledore's Army
and cringe reading it now, Spiritus Crystalus is an improvement, but
only slightly so. In writing those fics I was too fixated on the
concept of a chapter equaling one month of story time. Which in
retrospect was probably a mistake.

In DA we went from Kings Cross (End of 5th year) to back at Hogwarts
in exactly two chapters. I don't think I could do that anymore.
Sunset took four chapters to get to the express, then the very first
day at Hogwarts took a chapter all to itself.

Does this mean I'm planning on going back and revisiting DA and SC
for major rewrites? Heh... nope not really. Compared to Sunset they
ok fics in my book. But I'm not about to stop what I'm doing to
rewrite them.

As far as Ginny was concerned, then yeah, she wasn't all that nice.
She treated Harry like her own personal toy for quite a while, and
she had some serious growing up to do. Harry's lack of experience is
part of the reason why he didn't kick her ass to the curb and find
himself a girl that would shag him senseless and not mistreat him. He
didn't know any better, but like Ginny, he needed time to grow and
was willing (at least in our fic) to give Ginny the chance to grow. I
suppose I could have made her grow up quicker, but most of DA was
about Harry learning to deal with the damage left over by the
dursleys. I didn't really start working on Ginny and her problems til
the end of year 6.

Sunset and its planned sequel will probably be the last Harry Potter
fics unless I come up with a really good plot bunny. Its all
learning. :)

The two H/G stories you wrote

I've been re-reading them, and I've come to a very interesting realisation:? Ginny isn't really all that likeable until after the stupid mistake in Spiritus.? (It's amazing the things you realise as you reread a story.? The things you don't really note the first time through.)
?
She reminds me a lot of Cenedra in the Belgariad.? She's not the spoiled brat that Cenedra was, but she has her moments.? Bat Bogeys for Harry being in the same room as her?? Her double standard was something else that got to me.? When the Teen Witch Weekly came out with that article, she publicly claimed Harry as hers, but when Harry defends her and her family and claims her as his, she goes up one side of him and down the other.? Make up your mind, girl!
?
I think what really bothered me about both stories (and I'm pretty sure you've read a different version of this over on Abraxan's list) is the way that relationship changing things happened in both of your stories, and they were completely dealt with in the very same chapter.? Once she apologised to him in DA, everything was fine for them - no echoes of hurt later in the story (admittedly, there was only that chapter and the Epilogue), but there was no sign of it in SC.? Then she breaks the engagement, and in that same chapter, DD whips out his wand and solves the problem for them.? Other than to give Ginny the chance to grow up a little, there was no real need for that to have happened.
?
For that matter, Harry and Ginny forgave the Weasley brothers awfully fast for that "prank" that they pulled in SC.? Given his self esteem issues, that should have been hitting him in that chapter and for chapters to come, because I could very easily see Harry coming to the conclusion that since they were fighting so hard to keep him from proposing, that the Weasley boys didn't want him as a family member.? And to be honest, he should have been finding ways to prevent Ron and Hermione from being together, at least for a little while.? The prank wouldn't necessarily have driven it home, but being on the receiving end of what he did to them would certainly have made the point.
?
I realise that this may come across as a flame, and that certainly isn't the intention I had.? All of us are growing as writers, and sometimes we need an outside view.? I enjoy the stories immensely (have them on my PDA in MobiPocket format, in fact) and love to reread them.

Hey....:-)

I have a question...I just saw the trailer for GOF on line....it is going to be ins some of the IMAX theater...and wow!!!? I have goosebump it was awsome.? I was planning on going to Wisconsin to see it with my friend Una but now I'm hopeing to meet b/t TN and WI to see in IMAX the one in Indiana is planning? I know this is off topic but I am getting excited the trailer was awesome.

Chapter 15 might be up tonight, but if so, it will be very late. It's
more likely that you'll all wake up tomorrow to a new chapter (those
in the U.S. at any rate). I wasn't able to get as much editing done
last night as I'd hoped, so the bulk if it is being done now. I'd
like to blame it on Bob, but since he reads the boards, that wouldn't
be a good idea :D

That is exactly why I won't write a post HBP fic. It's far too
limiting.

Why be annoyed about your story being AU? We knew Sunset would be AU
from the moment the first word was put into a word processor file.
Its
sequel will be even more AU. Our first two stories are totally AU now
thanks to HBP. And personally I think our stories are better than HBP
but thats beside the point. :)

I agree. I mean, the only valid plots that could be
easily continued are those focused on the romance and
less on the actual action. And Harry goes horcrux
shopping > kills horcruxes > gets together with Ginny
kills voldemort is a boring plotline already.
Crs, who is so annoyed that he has started his own
alternative to canon, starting with first year.

It wasn't mentioned. If they did, this information either never
came
to Harry or wasn't important enough to him for the autor to mention
it. In HBP I think Lucius was still in jail, but there was no
mention
of a trial there either. Given the Shunpike situation, I'd suspect
the Ministry has reverted to imprisonment without trial again.
