I realise that this may come across as a flame, and that certainly
isn't the intention I had. All of us are growing as writers, and
sometimes we need an outside view. I enjoy the stories immensely
(have them on my PDA in MobiPocket format, in fact) and love to
reread them.
Hell, the fact that I am bothered by certain things to this level
tells me how good you are - if you weren't good, I wouldn't care
about the way that the characters act.

As you say, we're all learning to an extent. I see Dumbledore's Army
and cringe reading it now, Spiritus Crystalus is an improvement, but
only slightly so. In writing those fics I was too fixated on the
concept of a chapter equaling one month of story time. Which in
retrospect was probably a mistake.
In DA we went from Kings Cross (End of 5th year) to back at Hogwarts
in exactly two chapters. I don't think I could do that anymore.
Sunset took four chapters to get to the express, then the very first
day at Hogwarts took a chapter all to itself.
Does this mean I'm planning on going back and revisiting DA and SC
for major rewrites? Heh... nope not really. Compared to Sunset they
ok fics in my book. But I'm not about to stop what I'm doing to
rewrite them.
As far as Ginny was concerned, then yeah, she wasn't all that nice.
She treated Harry like her own personal toy for quite a while, and
she had some serious growing up to do. Harry's lack of experience is
part of the reason why he didn't kick her ass to the curb and find
himself a girl that would shag him senseless and not mistreat him. He
didn't know any better, but like Ginny, he needed time to grow and
was willing (at least in our fic) to give Ginny the chance to grow. I
suppose I could have made her grow up quicker, but most of DA was
about Harry learning to deal with the damage left over by the
dursleys. I didn't really start working on Ginny and her problems til
the end of year 6.
Sunset and its planned sequel will probably be the last Harry Potter
fics unless I come up with a really good plot bunny. Its all
learning. :)
