The position?requires considerable physical exertion, and the applicant must be capable of hiking for long periods of time through challenging terrain in outdoor heat and cold conditions and lift/carry up to 40lbs. They must have the ability to excavate 15-30 STPs per day depending on soil conditions and depth of excavation. When on Phase II and III projects, must be able to excavate 1 cubic meter per day. They should have some experience in accurately recording meaningful field notes using both traditional and digital methods, recognizing historic and pre-contact artifacts, identifying above- and below-ground archaeological features, mapping features, drawing strata profiles, and using GPS tools. Good communication skills and the ability to work well in a team environment are important.

Qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree in Anthropology or a closely related field. Completion of an accredited field school and demonstrated past field experience are preferred.

Standard pay range is $19.25 – $21.25 per hour and is based on applicant’s level of experience. Federal projects typically have a higher rate of pay as determined by project location. Summary of the Role:

The?Archaeologist 3 supervises archaeological tasks and studies under the direction of a Principal Investigator. This includes archaeological, cultural, historical, and environmental research; literature reviews/desktop assessments; archaeological reconnaissance and due diligence surveys; Phase I archeological surveys; Phase II archaeological testing and evaluation; Phase III archaeological excavation, data recovery, and mitigation; archaeological, cultural, and historical artifact and laboratory analysis; preparation of archaeological, cultural, historical, and environmental contexts; preparation of a variety of archaeological documentation and technical reports; and the preparation of artifacts and records for curation.

Key Duties:

  • Disseminate research and write archaeological, cultural, historical, and environmental contexts.
  • Prepare project-specific research designs, and work- and safety-plans.
  • Perform and supervise archaeological fieldwork through surface surveys, shovel testing, test unit excavations, unit and trench excavations, and feature excavations.
  • Supervise and work on multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
  • Supervise all phases of archaeological fieldwork - conducting reconnaissance/due diligence studies, Phase I surveys, Phase II testing, and Phase III excavations.
  • Supervise project teams consisting of field directors, crew chiefs, field archaeologists, and other technical specialists and sub-contractors.
  • Perform archaeological, cultural, and historical artifact and laboratory analysis and prepare artifacts and records for curation.
  • Prepare written archaeological, cultural, historical, and environmental contexts and a variety of archaeological documentation and technical reports.
  • Using the National Register of Historic Places Criteria, make preliminary resource evaluations and recommendations related to archaeological resources identified during project work.
  • Complete work within assigned schedules and budgets.
  • Participate in public outreach programs to educate the public about the importance of archaeological resources and Heritage Management, at the project, professional, and/or community levels.
  • Assist with project management and administrative responsibilities including personnel assignments, and schedules; client, agency, and landowner interaction; and consultation support.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • BA/BS in Anthropology, Archaeology, or related field.
  • 3 years of CRM supervisory experience.
  • Qualified to register as an RA or RPA with the Register of Professional Archaeologists.
  • Familiarity with field geospatial software.
  • Technological skills: ESRI Survey 123 and Field Maps, Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat.
  • Traditional and digital mapping, including total station and GPS-based mapping skills; photography; survey techniques; and excavation techniques.
  • Demonstrable report writing experience.
  • Ability to analyze data such as statistical analysis, material culture analysis, and geomorphological analysis.
  • Good understanding of the legal framework of CRM.
  • Capability to excavate and document excavations.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and ability to operate a passenger car/light truck.

Duties

Working conditions: ?You will be in the DAHP office, outdoors on construction sites, or in the field and they will be exposed to a construction or road project conditions. Safety equipment will have to be worn as the conditions dictate. Working hours could vary due to the project being examined.

We are seeking a Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Technician/Scheduler


Successful candidates must have 1) a college degree or equivalent professional experience in geography, environmental sciences, archaeology or history, or a closely related field and 2) one to two years of professional GIS experience. Location may be remote but there is a preference for someone who can join the Austin, Texas or Norman, Oklahoma office and salary ranges from $55k - $60k.

Required knowledge, skills, and abilities include:

  • Experience working in a collaborative environment
  • Strong understanding of the GIS environment, specifically Esri products (ArcGIS PRO, ArcGIS Online, Survey123, Field Maps)
  • Understanding of Cartographic and Data Visualization concepts
  • Experience working with CAD files (dwg/dgn), KMZ, SHP and GDB files
  • Working understanding of global and projected coordinate systems
  • Understanding of best GIS practices - particularly as they relate to data presentation and cartography
  • Familiarity with GPS (standard and GNSS/RTK/VRS) operation- uploading, downloading, data processing, and data presentation

The ideal candidate will have demonstrable professional GIS experience in cultural resource management, environmental resources, or infrastructure planning fields. Additional preferred experience:

  • Ability to read and interpret building and site plans and specifications
  • FAA Part 107 Certification and Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV; aka "Drone") mapping and documentation
  • Experience with environmental or cultural studies for regulatory compliance of transportation and/ or infrastructure projects at the federal, state, or local levels
  • Experience working in a billable environment, where time management plays a key role in developing project methods and strategies
  • Experience with quality control / internal peer review best practices

The successful candidate will be working under the supervision of senior GIS staff and subject-matter discipline leads and project managers to access, process, and analyze field, historical, and publicly accessible clearinghouse GIS data as a central component of subject-matter experts' work deliverables. You will regularly:

  1. Assist Oklahoma Program Manager with monitoring proposal and project deliverable schedules and coordinating with team members as needed
  2. Provide dedicated GIS Support to the Cultural Resources Team in the Norman, OK office as well as other teams distributed throughout the United States
  3. Provide GIS support for the other disciplines including Biology, Compliance, and NEPA
  4. Process census data for Community Impacts Analyses
  5. Generate GIS-based maps, illustrations, data tables, data models, etc. from public GIS datasets and/or field-collected data
  6. Assemble time-sensitive information to create Field Maps and Survey-123 applications for surveys
  7. Review, assess, and translate (as necessary) externally provided GIS data for use in ERG's internal systems
  8. Update and maintain internal GIS datasets and templates for accuracy and performance
  9. Participate in internal QC process to ensure our deliverables are consistent, include necessary data, and are legible
  10. Respond to requested revisions and updates on GIS deliverables in a friendly, cooperative manner
  11. Create publication-ready maps and figures for regulatory correspondence, reports, and other deliverables
  12. Look for opportunities beyond the day-to-day to expand and enhance the company's capabilities through improved methods, systems, hardware and software, etc.

Prior work experience in CRM the Mid-Atlantic is preferred. This position allows for semi-remote work and applicants should be within a commuting distance to sites in New Jersey, New York City, and Southeastern New York for site visits as needed. Part time work in the Cranbury, NJ office each week will be necessary.
Senior Archaeologist responsibilities include:

We are currently seeking Paleontological Technicians and Monitors for several months of compliance monitoring fieldwork on large projects within the Great Basin region in western Nevada. We anticipate work starting in fall 2024 and continuing into 2025 (exact schedules TBD). At this time, we are seeking committed individuals and those capable of being added to our permit in Nevada or interested in working toward being permitted in Nevada. Hiring would be flexible and allow for temporary, seasonal, part-time, and on-call schedules (although preference given to those willing to commit full-time to projects).

SEARCH is seeking a Principal Investigator to support in driving the success of projects and staff in the Southwest region of the United States.

Successful candidates will have a background in cultural resource management and experience managing archaeological projects. Position Information

SEARCH has immediate openings in the Southwestern region for Part-Time, As Needed (on-call) Archaeological Technicians to support upcoming archaeological surveys and excavation projects. Under direct supervision, an Archaeological Technician performs and supports archaeological surveys, assessments, monitoring, and data recovery projects using techniques appropriate to each task.
