Crew Lead Responsibilities:

Bioarchaeological Crew Chief, Asylum Hill Project, Jackson, MS--$30/hr

 

The Center for Bioethics and Medical Humanities at the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) seeks a new Crew Chief for the ongoing, multi-year excavation of the cemetery associated with the original Mississippi State Insane Asylum (1855-1935). This cemetery is located on the UMMC campus and contains the unmarked graves of over 4,000 individuals who will be moved to make room for vital expansion. The Asylum Hill Project will permanently memorialize the interred individuals during a later phase.

This is a year-round field project expected to take at least 3 more years to complete. The selected candidate will be expected to move to Jackson, MS, as there is no per diem or housing provided for this project. The work schedule will be five-day, guaranteed 40-hour weeks (M-F, 8-4:30). Lab work will be provided when inclement weather prevents fieldwork.

NOTE: Candidates interested in committing to the entire project will be given preference. This is a CRM job, not a place to spend a summer before grad school.

EDR is seeking experienced, team-oriented?Field Archaeologists?with demonstrated expertise to provide support to the EDR Cultural Resources practice area by assisting with archaeological fieldwork, laboratory analysis and/or office work. We are looking for more Field Archaeologists to join our field teams!

EDR is seeking experienced, team-oriented?Field Archaeologists?with demonstrated expertise to provide support to the EDR Cultural Resources practice area by assisting with archaeological fieldwork, laboratory analysis and/or office work. Reports to the Principal for Cultural Resources via the Archaeology Services Leader and Field Supervisors. This role would be an hourly position (March through December, weather dependent) based in the Northeastern United States.

Field Archaeologists provide support for field investigations, and in some instances, associated laboratory and/or office work. EDR’s Field Archaeologists include seasonal and temporary employees (i.e., employed on a per project basis) and report to the Principal for Cultural Resources via the Archaeology Services Leader and Field Supervisors.

Schedule and Compensation

  • Schedule: Monday through Friday; 8-hour days (40 hours weekly, off Saturday and Sunday; our typical schedule may need to be adjusted to meet specific project demands, although that is unusual).
  • Compensation: $20-$23 per hour, based on experience and work history; overtime paid for hours worked above 40.
  • Lodging: Single occupancy hotel room; hotel rooms can be provided over weekends for non-local staff.
  • Per Diem: Dependent on individual project requirements but typically $50 non-receipt per diem on workdays.
  • Safety: All employees will adhere to EDR’s standard health & safety procedures and employment

Core Competencies and Responsibilities:

  • Conducts archaeological fieldwork and data collection in accordance with standard professional practice under the supervision of EDR Project Archaeologists and/or Senior Archaeologists.
  • Quality of work is consistently accurate and acceptable in relation to the requirements and objectives of a given task.

  • Task Quality Assurance/Quality Control: Ensure that work products are in conformance with internal and external requirements and expectations; identify and prevent errors and omissions.
  • Knowledge of basic archaeological fieldwork and laboratory analysis
  • Ability to identify artifacts, features, and other archaeological
  • Ability to prepare clear, concise, and technically accurate field records/notes and drawings
  • Ability to work in a team
  • Ability to produce quality

Education and Previous Experience:

  • BA or BS in Anthropology, Archaeology, History, Geology, or similar field of study is
  • Prior archaeological fieldwork experience and/or completion of an archaeological field

Epsilon Systems Solutions, Inc. is currently seeking part-time Archaeological Crew Chiefs in Las Cruces, NM.

Summary:?

Responsible for the supervision of Cultural Resources Management (CRM) field staff conducting archaeological survey, site recording, excavation, and/or monitoring. The ideal candidate must demonstrate effective communication, organization, and leadership skills with relevant regional experience in all phases of CRM. Pay rates are commensurate with experience, ranging from $25 to $27/hour.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • ?Serve as the Crew Chief for complex cultural resource investigations, with supervision of a field crew
  • Conduct and lead cultural resources surveys, site recording, excavations, monitoring, and other fieldwork duties
  • Implement research designs, treatment plans, and other CRM guidance
  • Coordinate with Field Directors and Project Management to ensure projects are concluded on schedule and within budget
  • Quality Control for all activities and data collected in the field

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in archaeology, anthropology or a related field
  • Minimum two years of supervisory experience in CRM
  • Valid Driver’s license
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance

ADA Notations:

  • Some sedentary work is performed in an office setting. Outdoors. Rugged to extremely rugged terrain in extreme temperature ranges, often in uninhabited areas.
  • Must be able to walk 8-10 miles a day with field pack and ample water, over rough terrain in variable weather conditions which likely will include high temperatures in summer months.
  • A portion of the duties require working outdoors under extreme temperature, strenuous physical effort associated with hiking during archaeological reconnaissance and surveys, such as climbing steep slopes, and physical labor such as stooping, bending, carrying loads in excess of 50 pounds associated with archaeological excavation work.
