in Tennessee and the Mid-South region, but also in other parts of the U.S. and its territories. Prior work experience in Tennessee and the Mid-South region is preferred but not required.

Whitetail Environmental, LLC is seeking a qualified Archaeological Crew Chief for archaeological surveys and investigations at Wright Patman Lake, Texas. Under direct supervision, the Candidate will oversee and lead an archaeological crew during archaeological surveys and excavation; oversees the collection, recording, and interpretation of archaeological data in the field; and coordinate laboratory processing and analysis activities. The Candidate will also assist in the preparation of final descriptive, analytical, and technical reports for publication, and contribute chapters to technical reports. ? Fieldwork duration is expected to be 9-12 months over multiple mobilizations and will consist of pedestrian survey with shovel testing and unit excavation. Ability to oversee and coordinate an archaeological field crew in locating, collecting, recording and interpreting archaeological survey and excavation data and convey client needs and project objectives to archaeological field crew members. Ability to walk 4 to 8 miles a day for survey work, excavate shovel tests (35 cm in diameter and up to 100 cm deep), screen dirt from 10- 20 cm levels through a ?¡± mesh screen, and use hand-held devices to record shovel test depth, soil characteristics and Munsell colors by level, and describe any artifacts found at each level. Ability to identify and describe and record precontact and historic period artifacts. Knowledge, or willingness to learn, Section 106, Section 4(f) Compliance, ARPA, NAGPRA, and Antiquities Act. Ability to develop and follow research methodology and protocol. Ability to coordinate with Tribal monitors in respects to daily schedules, tasks, and artifact interpretation of materials found in the field. Knowledge of basic archaeological field and laboratory procedures, to include mapping, photography, and collection and handling of artifacts. Knowledge of surveying and mapping equipment. Ability to supervise and train employees, to include organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments. Knowledge of archaeological research issues, principles and procedures. Knowledge of federal/state laws, regulations, policies, and procedures for the preservation and management of historic/cultural resources. Ability to coordinate and oversee laboratory-processing activities, to include cleaning, reconstruction, classification, and cataloguing of artifacts. Ability to provide functional guidance and leadership to field crew staff in areas of specialty, such as faunal, lithic, and/or ceramic analysis. Bioarchaeological Crew Chief, Asylum Hill Project, Jackson, MS--$30/hr
The Center for Bioethics and Medical Humanities at the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) seeks a new Crew Chief for the ongoing, multi-year excavation of the cemetery associated with the original Mississippi State Insane Asylum (1855-1935). This cemetery is located on the UMMC campus and contains the unmarked graves of over 4,000 individuals who will be moved to make room for vital expansion. The Asylum Hill Project will permanently memorialize the interred individuals during a later phase. This is a year-round field project expected to take at least 3 more years to complete. The selected candidate will be expected to move to Jackson, MS, as there is no per diem or housing provided for this project. The work schedule will be five-day, guaranteed 40-hour weeks (M-F, 8-4:30). Lab work will be provided when inclement weather prevents fieldwork.
