Gulf South Research Corporation (GSRC) is still seeking to up to 5 full time archaeological technicians for employment at their main office in Baton Rouge, LA. Salary range is $20 to $22 per hour, dependent upon experience plus benefits. These would be full time positions and archaeological technicians would be expected to relocate to Baton Rouge, Louisiana and to put in 40 hours a week.

Duties

• Perform archaeological survey, testing, and data mitigation testing under the direction of project Crew Leaders and Field Director.
• Excavate and document excavation units as components of archaeological evaluation and data recovery projects.
• Participate in additional work as appropriate according to skill level, experience, and ability.

Qualifications

• B.A. or B.S. degree in archaeology, anthropology, or closely related field.
• Archaeological field school or 3 to 6 months of relevant field experience.
• Ability to maintain steady pace while accurately taking field notes on standardized forms.
• Familiar with field maps and navigation.
• Ability to work efficiently in adverse environmental conditions, including hot temperatures, precipitation, and challenging terrain while carrying 30+ lbs of gear for sustained durations.
• Archaeological knowledge of the precontact and post-contact periods, including ability to recognize and preliminarily identify regional artifacts.
• Ability to perform basic archaeological laboratory procedures including washing, identifying, inventorying, and preparing cultural material for permanent curation,
• Ability to work individually and as a team.
• Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
• Ability to adapt quickly and work well under pressure.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license.
• Ability to reliably commute to GSRC’s main office in Baton Rouge, LA.

Preferred Experience:

• One year field experience.
• Experience with general principles of GPS data collection systems (Garmin and Trimble).
• Experience with local artifact assemblages, lab, and curation procedures.
