(SRI), a multi-disciplinary, cultural resources consulting firm, has several hourly positions immediately available for Crew Technicians for an upcoming excavation near Vancouver, Washington. SRI provides comprehensive CRM services to private and government clients at the federal, state, and local levels throughout the western United States from offices in Arizona, California, Colorado, New Mexico, and Washington.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience:

Qualified candidates should possess a minimum of 6 months of field experience, primarily with excavation/data recovery, and be able to perform physically demanding tasks daily. Candidates should also have good organizational skills, a positive attitude, strong work ethic, and willingness to learn and execute new tasks. Prior exposure to the history and archaeology of the areas now encompassed by Washington and Oregon states is preferred, as is demonstrated field experience working with Trimble global positioning system (GPS) receivers and/or Field Maps. Prior experience in Washington and/or Oregon state(s) and adjacent states will be viewed favorably but is not required.

Job Description:

Reporting to the Project Director and Crew Lead, Crew Technicians are responsible for conducting test unit and feature excavation, screening, artifact identification, and documentation. To this end, Crew Technicians are required to perform the following tasks in the field for this specific project:

  • Conduct archaeological data recovery.
  • Draw features in plan and profile that conform to mapping conventions.
  • Keep clean and straight walls of a test unit or trench.
  • Complete field forms accurately and concisely.
  • Properly label collection bags and samples.
  • Able to safely lift up to 40 lbs.

Compensation:

The hourly pay for this position is $20 - $25, depending upon experience. Daily food allowance, up to $59.00 per day (no receipts required), will be provided for days worked, and single-occupancy lodging accommodation will be provided for the duration of the project both during and between sessions. Wages for work on other SRI projects may vary and are based on individual qualifications and experience.

This position is for an Architectural Historian and is a temporary part-time/ as needed employment type. This position will report to the Principal Investigator. The employee will participate in conducting archival research, historic-age property and building descriptions and evaluations, photographic surveys, and preparation of technical documents for submittal to local, state, and federal agencies for review. Cultural Surveys Hawai‘i, Inc. (CSH) seeks to hire multiple full-time, permanent archaeological staff for its O‘ahu office, to grow and advance with the company. CSH has 40 years’ experience providing quality cultural resource management (CRM) services throughout the Hawaiian Islands (please refer to for more information).

Position Description

The ideal candidate will be a detail-oriented and motivated “jack of all trades,” adept at collecting and reporting data to support archaeological studies. Under the direction of a Project Director or Lead, duties may include:

  • Independently monitoring construction activity on development projects in various environments. This is one of the most common tasks of CSH Archaeological Technicians and Archaeologists
  • Pedestrian survey, including archaeological feature identification, mapping, and recording. This work may involve strenuous physical labor, including hiking over rough terrain and/or through dense vegetation, or vegetation clearing
  • Subsurface survey, including controlled test excavations (test pits), areal excavations, and backhoe assisted testing programs. This work may require excavating by hand using shovels, trowels, picks, or similar tools
  • Working in close proximity to human skeletal remains and assisting Osteologists with tasks related to identified burials
  • Office work, including drafting maps in Adobe Illustrator, fieldwork results write-ups (historic property descriptions, stratigraphic profile descriptions, etc.), report writing (preparing environmental, background research, and previous archaeology sections)
  • Lab work, including washing artifacts, processing and sorting sediment samples, various curation tasks, and inputting information into the CSH Access database

You should be adaptable, safety-conscious, and willing to work around heavy machinery on busy construction sites. You will be expected to provide detailed digital and paper records of your work including field forms, hand-drawn profile and plan maps, photographs, and field condition updates in a timely manner.

Requirements

Must be eligible to work in the U.S. An undergraduate degree in Anthropology/Archaeology or a related field (e.g., Cultural Resource Management, Hawaiian Studies, History, Historic Preservation, Geology, Geography, Soil Science) is required. Demonstrated experience working in CRM archaeology and completion of an archaeological field school is preferred. Applicants with graduate degrees and/or prior archaeological work experience in Hawai‘i and/or other Pacific Islands are also preferred. You must have a valid driver’s license and will need your own transportation to get to various job sites. You are expected to have personal dig kits and survey gear.

Compensation and Benefits

The PI will be responsible for the following:

  • Promote compliance with the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA), Archaeological Resources Protection Act (ARPA), Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA), National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), and state environmental regulations and other laws relating to the protection of cultural resources.
  • Conduct archival research and background records checks.
  • Manage and/or conduct all aspects of archaeological fieldwork (Phase I survey, Phase II testing, and Phase III mitigation), construction monitoring, and assist or coordinate tribal survey/monitoring activities using standards and procedures that comply with Section 106 of the NHPA and state-specific requirements.
  • Manage project tracking/coordination and quality control while supervising field technicians and/or multiple field crews.
  • Conduct artifact analyses, evaluate resources for eligibility to be listed in the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) and state registers of historic properties, and complete state survey/site forms.
  • Support clients during agency and tribal consultation, including coordinating consultation with State Historic Preservation Officers (SHPO), Tribal Historic Preservation Officers (THPO), Native American Tribes, Advisory Council on Historic Preservation (ACHP), and multiple state, federal, and local agencies.

Colorado Parks and Wildlife's Resource Stewardship Program is seeking to fill a temporary cultural resources technician position.? This is a 40 hours per week, Monday-Friday, position and is based in north Denver.? This position provides a great entrance into the working worlds of Cultural Resources, Archaeology, Historic Preservation, Conservation, Park Management and GIS in the beautiful state of Colorado.

This position’s responsibilities will primarily include assisting with coordination of cultural resource inventories, planning, interpretation and management and will assist in compiling the results of archaeological surveys (site forms, reports, maps) for submittals related to Section 106 and other state and federal historic preservation laws.? This will include historical research, database management, GIS work, program planning, and administrative duties.? The Technician will conduct research on prehistoric and historic aspects of the park and write reports and summaries and will include preparation of GIS data/maps.?? The Technician will travel to state parks across Colorado to assess and monitor cultural resources.? Responsibilities will include communication to park staff regarding state and federal historic preservation compliance processes for cultural resources.

POWER Engineers, Inc., is seeking a full-time Senior Archaeological Principal Investigator for a leadership position in our Environmental Division – Resource Assessment and Mapping, Western Cultural Resources Department in California. This is salaried position with a pay range between $85,000 and $115,000.

Roles and Responsibilities

As a Principal Investigator you will help build the environmental project team focused on transmission/distribution lines, fire hardening, renewable energy, transportation projects, environmental surveys, NEPA/CEQA analyses, and permitting services. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated ability to lead archaeological survey work on federal and other public lands in California and write reports for federal and state agency submittal. Responsibilities will include technical support, writing support, and providing cultural resource management (CRM) expertise to the development and execution of projects in California and surrounding states. The PI should possess an advanced understanding of anthropological and archaeological field techniques in connection with locating, testing, recording, mapping, and evaluating archaeological sites and supporting field surveys. Conducting field surveys (pedestrian and shovel test surveys) using topographic maps, aerial photographs, and ESRI Field Maps and other GPS data collection software will be a regular part of this role.

This position requires the ability to work long hours, in difficult or remote environments, and in varying weather conditions. The position will also require the ability to work with and lead groups composed of diverse personalities. A positive attitude and ability to accept direction is a must, as well as the ability to work independently and to fully plan and execute personal assignments with minimal instruction. Effective communication skills are important for success in this role and will be called on frequently.

Required Education/Experience

  • 惭补蝉迟别谤’蝉 degree in Archeology, Anthropology, or a related discipline
  • 5+ years of previous California CRM field experience
  • Skill in planning, writing, and reviewing cultural resource reports in support of Class III, NEPA, and CEQA reports.
  • Knowledge and understanding of equipment, technology, and paperwork used in the recording and documenting of archeological sites and artifacts.
  • Developing, planning, and executing all aspects of cultural resource projects in support of CEQA and Section 106 undertakings in California
  • Executing cultural resource file searches within the California CHRIS system
  • Ability to learn and communicate local cultural history and material in new project areas.
  • Ability to work independently, and to fully plan and execute personal assignments with minimal instruction.
  • Knowledge and willingness to learn, apply, and communicate POWER company health and safety standards.
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Ability to successfully lead teams composed of diverse personalities of varying skill levels.
  • Ability and willingness to support non-cultural Company personnel in the execution of larger projects that may include a diverse array of environmental resources or engineering challenges.

Preferred Education/Experience

    • M.A/M.S or PhD. in Archaeology, Historic Architecture, History or Anthropology or other related field.
    • 5 years or more in a leadership role in Cultural Resource Management that required project planning, project execution, personnel management, report writing, and project oversight.
    • Experience in utility transmission, pipeline, and renewable energy projects
    • Staff mentorship experience
    • Experience developing cost estimates, scopes of work, and schedules for complex field surveys and larger CRM projects.
    • Experience with block and linear survey, background research and leading field crews
    • CPR/First Aid/OSHA certifications, or experience with these certifications.
    • Demonstrated writing skills. Please provided 2 to 3 copies of reports or other writing samples for review.

Under the supervision of a Team Lead, Principal Investigator, and Project Managers, the Field Director will be responsible for the following duties:

Beaver Creek Archaeology, Inc., a cultural resource management (CRM) consultancy with offices in Bismarck, ND and Artesia, NM, is seeking a talented individual to join our team as a Part-Time Assistant Architectural Historian. BCA conducts project work throughout the central-western United States, with a significant focus on the Great Plains region. The primary role is to research and effectively communicate the findings, methodologies, and significance of architectural historical investigations to various interested parties, including state and federal agency reviewers and BCA clients. Position Objectives
Archaeology Southwest seeks a flexible, resourceful, and detail-oriented individual to help prevent, detect, and respond to violations of the Archaeological Resources Protection Act (ARPA) on Tribal Lands. The individual will be part of the BIA ARPA Assistance Program that conducts and supports archaeological resource damage assessments, produces damage assessment reports, facilitates ARPA training sessions, and engages with public audiences to prevent looting and increase reports of violations.

Lived or work experience in a Native American community is required. The selected candidate will work closely with archaeologists, Tribal, Federal, and state government officials, law enforcement professionals, and legal specialists to advance the goals of the BIA and Archaeology Southwest ARPA Assistance Program.
