Job Description

Dutton + Associates, LLC (D+A), a Timmons Group company, is seeking a full time?Architectural Historian?for our?Cultural Resources Group?located in our?Richmond, VA?office location. Responsibilities of this position will include conducting archival and historical research, architectural field survey, writing resource descriptions and making evaluations of National Register eligibility, preparing architectural inventory forms, assessing effects to historic properties in accordance with state and federal guidance, and contributing to and authoring project compliance survey reports. The position has the flexibility to be hybrid. Some regional overnight travel is expected.

Job responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

  • Conduct primary archival and historical research;
  • Perform field survey and documentation of historic buildings, structures, districts and battlefields;
  • Assemble historic resource site file forms, site maps, and photographs;
  • Evaluate historic and architectural resources for eligibility for listing in the National Register of Historic Places;
  • Conduct impacts/effects assessments in accordance with state and federal guidance;
  • Contribute to and author project compliance reports, National Register nominations, and other cultural resource documents as needed;
  • Perform other duties as required.

The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications:

  • M.A. in Architectural History, Historic Preservation, or closely related field from a recognized program (candidates with a B.A. and at least two years of direct experience will be considered);
  • Minimum of two years¡¯ prior experience in Cultural Resource Management;
  • Experience and working knowledge of Section 106 (NHPA) and other laws that govern cultural resources;
  • Possess a strong working knowledge of American architectural types and styles;
  • Ability to demonstrate strong writing and verbal communications skills with other members of the team, clients, and the public;
  • Ability to demonstrate organizational skills and attention to detail;
  • Ability to work on simultaneous tasks while meeting project deadlines and adhering to project budgets;
  • Ability to work both independently as well as collaborate on a team;
  • Possess a valid driver¡¯s license;
  • Ability to read and navigate maps;

Archaeological Field Technicians Needed in Ohio, West Virginia, and Kentucky
The West Virginia office of?Cultural Resource Analysts, Inc.?anticipates having archaeological field technician positions available for Phase I and Phase II archaeological investigations in southern Ohio, West Virginia, and eastern Kentucky throughout much of the fall and winter months, beginning in October of 2024.


The wage rate for these projects will typically be $19.25 to $21.25 per hour, depending on experience, with per diem of $46 per day and single occupancy hotel rooms. Federal projects will be prevailing wage and a CONUS per diem of $59 per day. Lodging and cash per diem will be provided for all workdays. A bachelor¡¯s degree in anthropology and attendance in a field school are required. Position Summary

The Archaeologist II will manage archaeological sensitivity assessments, archaeological survey reports, and archaeological monitoring reports from beginning to end. We are looking for archaeologists with a minimum BA in Archaeology or Anthropology and at least 2 years of experience, preferably in California. An MA/MS is preferred. You should have previous experience with cultural resources technical reports, and be able to demonstrate strong writing skills and an ability to quickly learn new formats. Good working relationships with Bay Area Native American tribes are a plus.

To excel in this role, you should be detail-oriented, take excellent notes, follow deadlines, and be able to complete assigned tasks independently. You should be physically able to participate in fieldwork including walking long distances, standing for long periods of time, and lifting up to 40 pounds. This position requires excellent writing and editing skills and advanced proficiency with major software suites including Word, Excel, and Acrobat. Experience with GIS is a plus. About the opportunity

SWCA Environmental Consultants is seeking 5-10?Cultural Resources Technicians?in our Houston, Texas and Baton Rouge, Louisiana offices (Gulf Coast Region) to assist with cultural resources management work.?SWCA's Gulf Coast region offers a unique work environment and a diversified client-base, including generation/renewables, transportation, water infrastructure, oil and gas, and land development. Your role will be to assist the crew chiefs and field directors on a variety of projects throughout the Gulf Coast and Southeastern US.

Field Technicians are responsible for assisting the field supervisor in identifying and recording cultural resources in the field. This includes performing pedestrian survey, excavating shovel tests, identifying and documenting cultural materials (artifacts and features), filling out appropriate site forms and monitoring logs, site/artifact photography, and GPS-based data collection.

Employment Type: Salaried, Full-Time. Salary is between $45,000 and $60,000 per year, commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Job Description and Responsibilities:

    • The Staff Archaeologist position is under the direction of a Principal Investigator, and will involve participation in the planning and performance of archaeological field projects;
    • Responsibilities will include conducting pre-field research, mobilizing field projects, providing supervision to field technicians, overseeing archaeological field projects, artifact analysis, authoring or co-authoring written reports of findings, and completing site forms;
    • Project types may include archaeological monitoring, survey, evaluation, and data recovery projects, including projects that will require stays away from home.

Qualifications:

    • A graduate degree in Anthropology or Archaeology;
    • Qualification under the Secretary of the Interior Standards (48 FR 44716) in archaeology;
    • RPA, or eligible for RPA;
    • It is imperative that the candidate be able to work 8¨C10-hour days in a variety of conditions. Excavating, screening, stooping, bending, lifting, and walking treacherous terrain are essential functions of this position;
    • Other qualifications include excellent writing and verbal communication skills, strong organizational skills, and technological proficiency that includes some experience with GIS and relational databases.

  • Serve as primary author on large technical reports, research designs, and other technical documents.
  • Conduct content edits of technical reports and site forms.
  • Oversee field research, data collection, inventory, analysis, and final report production, ensuring these tasks are conducted in accordance with the QA/QC plan.
  • Assist with training and mentoring of staff in topics including NRHP eligibility, implementation of research designs, technical reporting, and site recording protocols.

Experience and qualifications for success


  • Minimum of a master¡¯s degree in Archaeology or Anthropology required.

  • Experience with and thorough knowledge of NEPA, Section 106, and the Antiquities Code of Texas.
  • Listed as a Registered Professional Archaeologist (or qualified for RPA status).
  • Experience with content edits of reports and a solid background of scheduling and budgeting of projects related to cultural resources.
  • Ability to work independently as well as oversee small or large projects by working closely with Field Directors, Project Managers, and Team Leads.

The Versar Environmental Services Group is seeking Archaeological Field Technicians for various archaeological projects located in the southwest (NM, West TX region). Depending on the assigned project, per diem and lodging may be provided.

°Â³ó²¹³Ù?³Û´Ç³Ü¡¯±ô±ô?¶Ù´Ç:

  • Project tasks will include pedestrian survey and subsurface testing.?
  • Prospective candidates must be capable of walking long distances and be able to dig numerous shovel test pits in compact and wet soils, carrying, lifting (up to 50lbs), and screening sediments for cultural materials.?
  • Candidates must be capable of carrying out field duties, often with limited or no support, in extreme environments.
  • In addition to technical capabilities, individuals must be able to meet the requirements of various company and project safety and security requirements (i.e., no smoking in designated areas, UXO training, signing confidentiality agreements, etc.).
  • Field Technicians should have experience conducting archaeological surveys and site documentation, which includes feature and artifact identification and analyses; performing shovel test pits (STPs) and the excavation of units; site descriptions; photographs; and mapping. Prior experience in the Southwest and knowledge of the prehistory and history of the region is preferred.

What You¡¯ll Bring:

  • BA/BS degree in Anthropology or Archaeology, as well as the successful completion of an archaeological field school.?
  • Able to demonstrate knowledge of using GPS technology, take quality field photographs and detailed notes, and assist crew leaders in filling out the necessary site forms and paperwork that accompany survey and testing projects?
  • Must have a demonstrated background working with prehistoric and historic archaeological materials and have a fundamental knowledge of GPS tools. ?
  • This position requires working 8-hour days and be capable of walking up to 4 miles a day in rough terrain.?
  • Individuals must be capable of collecting field data using GPS units, possess a valid driver's license, and have access to reliable transportation.
  • Successful results of preemployment screenings, including federal background check, MVR, and drug screen
