The issue isn’t a swivel which we don’t have. The Spade has a high arch in the shank, if it clears the roller too quickly the arch comes back and up and rubs agains the bottom of the furler. If ?I retrieve it slowly, the shackle end of the shank stays low and
the arch clears the furler. I could probably engineer something than would force the shank down sooner, just haven’t gotten around to it. Over time I’ve gotten better at slower retrievals. There have been other more pressing problems to deal with.

?We have a 44 lbs Spade on 140’ chain and 150 feet of 8 plait. Have never had a problem setting the anchor, except in conditions that no anchor would set, shallow sand over limestone, sunken canvass, sunken plastic (2x), and deep thick weeds (a borrowed fisherman’s

?We have a 44 lbs Spade on 140’ chain and 150 feet of 8 plait. Have never had a problem setting the anchor, except in conditions that no anchor would set, shallow sand over limestone, sunken canvass, sunken plastic (2x), and deep thick weeds (a borrowed fisherman’s anchor worked). The only drawback is clearance under the roller furler, when launching and retrieving it sometimes hits the bottom of the drum.

Re: Spade Anchor on 362 Question
I have both the 80 and the 100 (in SS) for the past 8-9 years. I had the 80 in galvanized, but it suffered from heavy rust, so I switched to stainless steel.? I actually never use the 100, I only have it for use in a hurricane hole I use when we have hurricanes, (along with 8 other anchors, numerous prayers, and crossed fingers).? The 80 has been terrific, only one time it would not set, it was in knee high grass in the Keys where nothing would set. I’ve had it in storms with winds in excess of 40, no issues. Wind shifts, tidal changes, no problems, but I do use a kellet since I have rope.? I’ll be 76 next month, usually sail by myself (if my 5’ 4”, 66 y/o wife is with me, she has anchor duty and handles it well). I don’t have a windless, but don’t have issues retrieving the anchor in normal conditions, in severe weather I’ll motor up, and/or put the anchor rode on a winch (only did that once when it was gusting to 40).? Note, most of the anchoring I do in South Florida and Bahamas is in fairly shallow water, 15-20’.? And when you add chain, sand/mud, it’s more than 33 lbs.? I have 35’ of chain.?

Re: Outhaul car Hood furling main
For Sabre sailors with the Hood Stoway main furling system, I have an update on my previous post. Unfortunately, I was unsuccessful finding replacement parts for the outhaul furling car and commissioned a local machine shop to 3D print replacement end caps from Delrin. Cost a few hundred bucks, but I didn’t see an option short of replacing both the track (which appears to be integral to the boom) and car.
?
If anyone has a similar setup and is looking for spares, please reach out to me directly and I can connect you with the shop. Most of the expense was in creating the CAD models.
