LFP Conversions 4
If anyone is contemplating and LFP conversion, I suggest you buy the batteries now! When the existing inventory in the US is gone, the next batteries will be 2x to 3x as much, if they could be found at all. -- Jim Starkey, AmorphousDB, LLC

Mast step Rot. 24 #maststeprot #Sabre38
I know I am plowing old ground here but can someone tell me a ball park figure for replacing the mast step on a sabre 38? I took her to a reputable boatyard in Salem to fine out and they said fogettaboutit it is not a problem. I was happy for about an hour and a half. I guess they are just too busy. I am trying to see if the repair will cost more than the boat is worth. Thanks -- Thomas Wanderer Sabre 38 Celebration

Spade Anchor on 362 Question 36
Greetings, The thread from this morning got me re-started on acquiring a new anchor. I really want a Spade, but wondering if it can fit through the Bow Pulpit with the chain attached. We leave our vessel on a mooring in Rockland a few weeks each year, and I always put our 35 lb Lewmar Delta in the locker when we are away to avoid it tangling with the pendant. (Marine How To has a section on why this is important!! :)) I think one of the Dave's has a Spade on his 362? Do you ever pull it back through the Pulpit? Thanks. -- Triona Sabre 362 #132 Sachems' Head Ct

Rear Chainplate Pitted 362 5
Hello, I am adding a Harken Hydraulic Backstay to my 1994 Sabre 362. One of the twin rear chainplates looks fairly pitted and I am thinking I should consider replacing it since it will now be under more load at times. Does anyone know where I could source this part? See attached pictures. Thank You! Jim Vetterlein Sabre 362 Northeast, MD

Sole repair 5 #Sabre28
Sole was rotting out… So I started cutting out the rotted parts of the sole. Not sure where to go from here, doesn’t seem to be anywhere to attach the new wood too. Old wood laminate won’t come off. Maybe but off more than I can chew here. I’m also concerned with the section of missing bulkhead. How do I account for the bilge access? Can I get some guidance for next steps? -- Aaron R Sabre 28-28 Hull 308

362 Rudder Bearing Replacement 11
I'm in the process of reinstalling my rudder (rebuilt by Foss Foam in Florida) and new bearings (from Tides Marine and made to the specs provided by Glen) and looking for advice. I've reviewed all the photos that Dave Short provided but any additional info would be greatly appreciated. A key concern I have is that when I test fit the new bearings in the hull tube there is a bit of play. If I install the bearings in the tube first and they aren't exactly aligned I think that is going to be a problem. Second, when I test fit the new bearings on the rudder post they are really tight ... so tight that I could only get them on about 2" without being concerned that if I pushed them further I wouldn't be able to get them off by hand. I soaked one in hot water to expand it and then it slid on easily but still snug. All advice is appreciated. -- Roger Kuebel Restless S362#150 Padanaram, MA

Replcement SeaTalk GPS sensor 10
Our Raystar 125 GPS is not functioning. I replaced the battery, and I get the green LED indicator, but the chart plotter consistently states it has no GPS information. I haven't been able to find any information on how to troubleshoot the Raystar 125. In looking for SeaTalk compatible GPS sensors, used Raystar 125's are pretty expensive. However, several Chinese built GPS sensors seem to be Raymarine/SeaTalk compatible, like this one: https://www.ebay.com/itm/355194033156 Has anyone had any experience with 3rd party SeaTalk compatible GPS sensors, and does anyone know if this Chinese GPS sensor, based on the noted specifics, "QU232U7 is an external GPS receiver, the protocol is NMEA 0183, the default baud rate is 4800" would work with an older Raymarine SeaTalk system? Stewart Warner mechanical tachometer 3
I have a mechanical Stewart Warner tachometer that will send to whoever wants it, all I ask is you pay shipping. Don't ask how, but I ended up with two of these so giving one away. I used it to calibrate my new tach for my W21 and it worked fantastic. Just touched it to the center of the bolt on the crankshaft pulley and I get an accurate RPM reading. -- Tim Dokken 1985 Sabre 32 #59 Bayfield, WI

Lighthouse 3/4 2
I have Axiom 9 Pro chart plotter. All other instruments are Raymarine. Upgraded in 2020. I believe I'm running Lighthouse 2 currently. Should I go straight from. 2 to 4 or 2-3-4? I checked old posts and there's not much on Lighthouse 4. Any advice would be most gratefully appreciated. Vintage S38 Mkll Great Lakes

Checking Gearbox Oil on Hurth 50 11
Hello, I bought my ‘84 Sabre 28-3 last year and I am getting it ready to launch in two weeks. On my checklist is checking and changing the gearbox oil, but I am finding out how difficult this task is. I am pretty sure the boat has a Hurth 50 gearbox based on pictures I have seen, and I have a Westerbeke 13 engine. First and foremost, the gearbox is almost unreadable to access from the cockpit locker. Secondly, the gearbox is not equipped with a dipstick and I do not know which bolt to remove even if I can reach any. How do owners cope with maintaining a Hurth 50 on a Sabre 28? -- David Garcia 1984 Sabre 28 Mark III Northport, Long Island, NY

Headliner for S452 7
I am in the process of repairing the headliner in the main cabin of my 2001 Sabre 452. Much of the vinyl material has separated and there are many sags and bubbles. With a lot of previous help and feedback from previous posts on this forum I have gained enough information (and confidence) to start the project. All ceiling trim has now been removed, and I am taking down the 4-5 plywood pieces in the ceiling where the headliner is attached. I have purchased 3M adhesive #76 and #90. Glen Chaplin states Sabre uses (used?) 3M #90 for the headliner work in the factory. My question is: I am asking this forum if you know where I can purchase the headliner material: NAUGAHYDE VINYL, BRIGHT WHITE SF-79 (thanks to Glen Chaplin at Sabre for the info). The NAUGAHYDE is glued to an 1/8 layer of white dense foam which again is glued to the plywood. I have purchased the foam, but all the NAUGAHYDE vendors I have checked to date only sell wholesale. Also, as a backup, I am contemplating contacting an upholstery shop in the area (NY metro/NJ) to get some help with this project. Any advice greatly appreciated. condition and value survey 7
Mithril has hit 40 years old and GEICO has requested a condition and value survey. So I am looking for a reasonable survivor in the Belfast ME. area. I had used an older couple in the Blue Hill area but I don’t think they are in business anymore. Recommendations would be appreciated. Steven Fein Mithril 1984 38 mk 1 Northport Me.

Paint Job 5
Hey Sabre Crew, I'm planning to do a paint job on my hull next off-season, rub rail to waterline, and my mental wheels are turning on this topic. If anyone has an album of photos or videos of when they did theirs, I would love to see it. Also, any tips, tricks, tools, supplies, words of warning - all welcomed. Cheers. Enlarging the mastgate 6
Good Evening I'd like to install a tides marine mast track on my 34-2. The current mastgate is too short and too low for their product to slide into the luff grove. I would need to enlarge the mastgate by 6.5". Has anyone done this, enlarged their mastgate? Some suggest using a grinder. Is this crazy or not a big deal? Greg Duet 34-2 338

Max prop coming out of reverse issue 5
While looking for some other information on a PYI shaft seal, I found the instructions for feathering a Max Prop. Reduce speed with engine in gear. Stop engine. Wait a little. Shift to neutral. Here’s the link to the FAQ page: Max-Prop FAQ's pyiinc.com Dave Second Star S362 #113 Fair Haven, NY/Lake Ontario On Mar 24, 2025, at 9:24 AM, Mark Fanning via groups.io <fanningiop@...> wrote: Looking for any advice on a current issue with my Max Prop Easy. When sailing- when we normally put the transmission in reverse to stop the shaft from spinning and to feather the prop. Recently we were sailing from SC to FL and had a very difficult time getting the transmission out of reverse prior to restarting engine. It was real stuck. We had to head straight into the wind, luff the sails, and about stop the boat to get the transmission to budge out of reverse. Normal motoring and maneuvering around the dock the transmission easily goes from fwd to reverse and back out of reverse. Wondering if it maybe lack of grease or gearbox issue. The prop has not been greased in over 1.5 years. Thanks, Mark Sea Biscuit 452-023 Charleston, SC (currently in Stuart, FL on way to Bahamas)
