This is what we did to keep from hitting the furler. It also was a help in keeping the anchor in place when heading into waves.?

The issue isn¡¯t a swivel which we don¡¯t have. The Spade has a high arch in the shank, if it clears the roller too quickly the arch comes back and up and rubs agains the bottom of the furler. If ?I retrieve it slowly, the shackle end of the shank stays low and
the arch clears the furler. I could probably engineer something than would force the shank down sooner, just haven¡¯t gotten around to it. Over time I¡¯ve gotten better at slower retrievals. There have been other more pressing problems to deal with.

do you use a swivel? ?We do with a section of chain between the swivel and the anchor shank. ?This allows the swivel to work and not get side-loaded (the cause of most swivel failures). We too hit the bottom of the drum and am not sure how to remedy it other
than going very slowly when the anchor is close to being all the way up. The other complication is this is happening right after the anchor self-rights, so there is a lot going on at once. ?Full disclosure, we have a Rocna 25 (55lbs) not a Spade.

?We have a 44 lbs Spade on 140¡¯ chain and 150 feet of 8 plait. Have never had a problem setting the anchor, except in conditions that no anchor would set, shallow sand over limestone, sunken canvass, sunken plastic (2x), and deep thick weeds (a borrowed fisherman¡¯s
anchor worked). The only drawback is clearance under the roller furler, when launching and retrieving it sometimes hits the bottom of the drum.

This
season I¡¯m increasing my chain to 75¡¯ from 40¡¯ plus 250¡¯ of 5/8¡± nylon 8 plait for my 38 mkii in preparation for this summer¡¯s trip to Newfoundland with its deep anchorages and frequent windy conditions. I use a 15kg Rocna anchor which in its current configuration
has never failed to set or drag in conditions with gusts exceeding 35 kts.?
Also will have a snubber for shallow anchorages with small tidal swings. All chain seems unnecessary to me unless you¡¯re in coral infested waters. All that expensive weight in the bow for what purpose?

I have the 100.? No problems handling to date, 3 or 4 seasons including a Newfoundland trip.? I have a Muir VR1000 windlass that is a good windlass but not particularly heavy duty.? My previous was a Bruce #33.
Furler is a Furlex 204S new Spring 2023.? Photo below is previous Furlex Type B MkII.
Purchased boat in 2015.? Came with 100' 5/16 chain & 200' nylon 3 strand.? Nice setup.? Rarely put out less than 100' in Maine or Canada, so basically a built in snubber.? I was gratified to read Andy Schell of 59 North endorse this exact setup in, probably,
Sail mag sometime the last couple years.

Hi Dave Short, and or anyone with a 362 and a Spade Anchor..
?
Did you get the 100 (44 lbs.) or the 80 (33 lbs.)?
?
I think you may have said the 100, and was wondering if you have issues with handling it? My previous anchor was a Delta 33lb...
?
Also do you have all chain? I'm considering 150' of 5/16" with another 100' of rode. Like you we cruise Maine for most of the summer...here in Long Island Sound depths are shallow so don't need much in the way of scope.
?
In the past we had 40' of chain and another 200' of rode.
?
Thanks..
