Ditto for us
I had Indalo Rigging install the Furlex.? She had some comment
regarding Furlex providing better clearance than a Harken, but I'm
not totally clear on that.

The issue isn¡¯t a swivel which we don¡¯t have. The Spade has a high
arch in the shank, if it clears the roller too quickly the arch
comes back and up and rubs agains the bottom of the furler. If ?I
retrieve it slowly, the shackle end of the shank stays low and the
arch clears the furler. I could probably engineer something than
would force the shank down sooner, just haven¡¯t gotten around to
it. Over time I¡¯ve gotten better at slower retrievals. There have
been other more pressing problems to deal with.

do you use a swivel? ?We do with a section of chain
between the swivel and the anchor shank. ?This allows
the swivel to work and not get side-loaded (the cause of
most swivel failures). We too hit the bottom of the drum
and am not sure how to remedy it other than going very
slowly when the anchor is close to being all the way up.
The other complication is this is happening right after
the anchor self-rights, so there is a lot going on at
once. ?Full disclosure, we have a Rocna 25 (55lbs) not a
Spade.

?We
have a 44 lbs Spade on 140¡¯ chain and 150 feet
of 8 plait. Have never had a problem setting
the anchor, except in conditions that no
anchor would set, shallow sand over limestone,
sunken canvass, sunken plastic (2x), and deep
thick weeds (a borrowed fisherman¡¯s anchor
worked). The only drawback is clearance under
the roller furler, when launching and
retrieving it sometimes hits the bottom of the
drum.

Also
will have a snubber for shallow

All chain seems unnecessary to me

Hi Dave Short, and

Did you get the 100

I think you may

was wondering if you
have issues with
handling it? My

Also do you have
all chain? I'm
considering 150' of
5/16" with another
100' of rode. Like you
we cruise Maine for

In the past we had
40' of chain and
another 200' of rode.

Thanks..
