Re: Echolink
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýSimple solution:? Use a proxy on
KD6CWI, that will resolve the problem.

Re: Tips for changing to new router / IP provider?
Allen
Many ISP's -primarily the wireless -cellphone based ISP's are what they call "Double NATed" menaing if you open a UDP port, it does not get you out to the "real world" as you ride in the providers internal network. .. there's the deal.. Echolink required a UDP port. ALLSTAR does not.. Howeve4r with your SHARI you can only connect to? someone else. Someone else cannot connect to you.. So ---for instance if you want to host a room, you can't? but if you want to "surf" the world you can.. An example of Double NATing.. I am rural and can only get wireless out of my QTH.. unless I want DSL at 3-5Mbps. When I was with AT&T (death star logo) and you tried my public address it showed me in Chicago.. I am in Kansas. anytime I went to a store URL, the store said I was in Chicago. googled pizza's and all were Chicago.. Still in Kansas? I now have T-Mobile Home internet (2 years next month Thumbs Up!!) and when I do the same thing at first I was in Dallas Texas and lately Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. I can live with it especially the good (cross fingers) service I have had from T-mobile- 23 months no outage, So please do you due diligence when picking a provider, like your spending the next 2 pay checks on a new HF rig.. In the case of my ISP, they provided the "Modem/router" Combination. It is dual band wifi, and has only two 100baseT ports on it. But I feed one to a 8 port switch for the 4TB file Server, Linux Mint, Widows 7, Windows 10, Hamclock Raspberry pi, Raspberry pi 400, Network printer, RPI SHARI. Then all the cellphones, tablets and TV's in the house are on wifi.? So hopefully you'll be a happy camper shortly, Regards for Kansas plains Larry W8LM |

Re: Tips for changing to new router / IP provider?
Hello Folks - Thanks Scott KB3JQQ, Robert and Adam VA3AUM for the helpful advice!
Yes - by way of context fibre entered the neighbourhood and I took the plunge with Bell (in Ottawa, Canada) and a Sagecom Giga-hub modem/router installed. The set up work well with 343 Mbps down and 154 Mbps up with a 22ms latency. This was a huge step forward in terms of reliability and speed over my previous provider, but was of course more expensive. ?I got my SHARI node set up by going into my MobaXterm program with my SHARI Pi3U plugged into a Pi3b which was cabled into the new router. I loaded the SSH shell and went to menu item 7 to auto-find the 2.4 gig part of my router and added in the router PW. I then removed the cable as the pi was rebooting and it seemed to work and I was able to connect a few Allstar hubs. I had previously established port forwarding on the initial installation but haven't yet done that with the new set up. I'll see if it keeps working over the next few days, and if it doesn't keep working - I might be back here with a few more questions and more fun troubleshooting! Appreciate all the thoughtful input. 73, Alan VA3IAH ? ? |

The tone setup is mandatory to avoid disrupting other AllStar
users.? On my busier conferences, I will boot poorly configured
repeaters if I can and if not, suggest that the stations using
them try another means of access if possible, because hang time,
courtesy tones and CWIDs on the network are _very_ disruptive.
OK, looks like you're stuck with that, but I don't know what you're saying about the DMR repeater, that doesn't make sense to me at all. -- 73 de Tony VK3JED/VK3IRL |

Re: Echolink
The two main points:
In modules.conf, make sure that the Echolink module is loaded. load => chan_echolink (change noload to load on that line). Next, configure echolink.conf with your node details (use a -L or -R here, for your SHARI). Finally, forward UDP ports 5198-5199 to your SHARI.? WARNING you can only have one Echolink system, regardless of whether it's a user -L, -R or conference, behind the same public IP.? If you want to run a second Echolink node (e.g. your user callsign on a smartphone or PC), you need to use a relay server or proxy, to "borrow" an outside IP, or you need to run a VPN and tunnel an extra IP in. Anyway at the end of configuring AllStar, restart Asterisk and Echolink should be enabled.? You can then accept Echolink connections or dial other Echolink nodes by using *33xxxxxx, where xxxxxx is the Echolink node number.? If the Echolink node is 4 or 5 digits, pas the number to 6 digits with leading zeroes (e.g. *33009999 for the echoconf server). -- 73 de Tony VK3JED/VK3IRL |

Re: Echolink
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýall you have to do is nano echolink.conf file and change the settings. make sure you are set for a -L from echolink and you will have a node number for it. yes there are instructions.where it says this in the text: First, if you are behind a NAT router, please make sure the ports for Echolink service are correctly forwarded to your asterisk system.
do not do that.? one echolink entry in the router: Echolink??? 5198-5200?? TCP/UDP?? to the LAN address of your node the rest is all correct in the document On 3/17/2023 8:51 PM, Thomas Pruett

Re: Echolink
Hello everyone. Just got this email from EchoLink Admin. Seems they had an issue on my EchoLink on my Google Pixel7, also on my Microsoft Surface 5 Laptop and lastly on my ClearNode. Since I am not capable of doing what they are requesting. I elected to uninstall the EchoLink on my Surface 5 Laptop and in the process of disabling my EchoLink on my ClearNode. Just emailed Gerry to guide me on how to disable Echolink on my ClearNode. Just sharing?my experience on EchoLink. I will just primarily use it on my Google Pixel 7. Stay Safe. 73 Ruben Tiosejo KD6CWI Thanks for your continued support of the EchoLink system. Our servers have detected that the EchoLink nodes KD6CWI-L and KD6CWI have both been logging in from the same IP address recently. The IP address is 50.113.82.51. You MUST shut down the second instance or move it to a different IP address, as described below. EchoLink is designed to allow only one node per IP address, and trying to run two or more behind the same public IP can lead to very erratic operation. You may have already noticed odd behavior such as inability to connect, or incoming connections being picked up by the "wrong" node. It also causes problems with the servers that manage the EchoLink system. For this reason, it's against our Access Policies, and nodes that operate this way for more than 48 hours may be blocked at our firewalls. Keep in mind that if you are running your EchoLink nodes from the same location that shares a single ISP service, such as cable or DSL, it's common for all of the PCs in that location to be sharing the same public IP address. This works well for most types of Internet usage, and even some other VoIP systems, but it won't work for multiple EchoLink nodes, because of the requirement that each logged-in node have a separate address. In fact, proper EchoLink operation requires that you set up port forwarding in your router, to forward all incoming EchoLink traffic to a single machine. If you need to run multiple nodes on the same Internet service, there are a few options: 1) Check with your ISP to see if it can allocate to you a second public IP address, and if so, how you can set up your network to begin using it. 2) Use a Public Proxy with your second node, especially if it's not a "sysop" node, and you only need to run it part of the time. 3) Consider the use of a VPN service for the second node, which is typically available on a monthly subscription basis from various providers. Hopefully this information is helpful. You can find more information about how the EchoLink network works on the EchoLink Web site (). ¿ªÔÆÌåÓýConfiguring ?echolink is pretty much identical on both ASL and HamVoIP, however, the echolink module ?in HamVoIP has lots of memory/code optimization and bug fixes that don't exist on the ASL version, at least if we are talking about ASL 1.01. I have no idea what ASL 2 does in regards to ?echolink.Sent from my zippo On Mar 17, 2023, at 21:53, Rick KK4GGL <doxieguy.71@...> wrote:

Re: Shari with repeater
We use a T-mobile cell connection for internet for our repeater.? The connection is made using an Teltonika RUT 240 industrial cellular modem designed for uncontrolled environments. (we are in a warter tower)
The Allstar controller at the repeater connects to an Allstar hub so that only a simplex Allstar connection is required to the repeater. When we exceed that, the speed drops but it is still more than required by a simplex Allstar connection.? It costs us $10 per month for 1 GB of high speed data.??We use a ZeroTier VPN so that we can SSH into the Allstar controller through the cell connection. |

Plus, putting another antenna on the tower is problematic. And for clarity, we would be connecting an analog computer to our club DMR rebeater with the only talk group being the DMR repeater.

Re: Shari with repeater
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýIn theory, yes, but one has to question
whether that's advisable.? There's a few factors to consider:
1.? Are you close enough to the
repeater for it to work?
2.? Is the repeater properly configured
so it won't cause disruption to the network? (i.e. CTCSS only when
there's a signal on the repeater input).
Last thing I want to see is AllStar
become another Echolink, full of poorly engineered repeater
links.?
3.? Are you really sure you can't site
an AllStar node at the repeater?? Doing so would maximise audio
quality and allow for AllStar to run in full duplex.? AllStar can
also be your repeater controller if you want (or you can use a
link port on the existing controller).

It should not need to worry about the offset.? It goes directly into the repeater without going over the air at that point.? As to tones, I suspect that the Shari would mute them. Yes it can but you¡¯ve also got to remember any hang times announcements IDs courtesy tones will also go out over the repeater unless you change it to zero duplex On Fri, Mar 17, 2023 at 3:15 PM Mike Charters VA6PLC <va6plc@...> wrote: Can it do the offset and tones? ne5l |
