Locked Sticky New Product Announcement - SHARI PiHat (52Pi Case) #Announcement
Kits 4 Hams is pleased to announce that a new version of the SHARI PiHat, called the SHARI PiHat (52Pi Case) is now available for purchase The SHARI PiHat (52Pi Case) utilizes the SHARI PiHat Mod2 PCB. This is the same board that we use with the Unistorm case version. Features and facts about this new product are: - It only works with the Raspberry Pi4B - Utilizes the 52Pi case which is 3.34¡åL x 2.48¡å W x 1.77¡åH - The 52Pi case is taller than the Unistorm case which allows a cooling fan to be installed inside the case. The fan and Pi4B heatsinks are included with the kit. - The connecton to the external antenna SMA connector is made with a short coax cable terminated with a U.FL (IPEX) connector which plugs into a mating jack on the SHARI PiHat Mod2 PC board. - A smoked Lexan cover allows the COMMS, COS and PTT LEDs to be easily observed More information about the SHARI PiHat (52Pi case), the construction manual, pricing and how to order it can be found on our website: https://kits4hams.com/shari-pihat-52pi-case

Locked Sticky New Product Announcement - SHARI PiHat Cooling Fan Option #Announcement
Kits for Hams is pleased to announce the availability of a cooling fan option for the SHARI PiHat (Neo case). The SHARI PiHat in the Argon40 Neo case uses the case as a heatsink for the CPU and RAM of the Raspberry Pi4B. This causes the case to get quite warm if the Allstar node is used to participate in a long net where the node is transmitting almost 100% of the time. Thus, some users have asked for a cooling fan option for the SHARI PiHat. They are especially concerned about temperature in an uncontrolled environment such as operation of a portable or mobile node. Responding to these requests, the engineering team at Kits for Hams has developed a cooling fan option. The fan operates from 5 VDC obtained from the Raspberry Pi 5 VDC on the GPIO connector. The fan runs continuously . The fan option installation manual can be found in the SHARI PiHat Documentation folder (look for the Folder icon) in the Files section of this group /g/SHARI/files Please email us at kitsforhams@... for additional information and to order.

Locked Sticky New Product Announcement - SHARI PiHat (Unistorm Case) #Announcement
Kits for Hams is pleased to announce that a new version of the SHARI PiHat, called the SHARI PiHat (Unistorm Case) is now available for purchase. This case allows the use of either a Pi3 or a Pi4. SHARI PiHat (Unistorm Case) utilizes a slightly different version of the SHARI PiHat PC board (we call it the SHARI PiHat Mod2). It is electrically equivalent to the current SHARI PiHat board but utilizes the standard PiHat dimensions and permits an external (or internal) USB connection, so it is more useful to experimentors that would like to purchase only the board to build it into their own case. The full product announcement and construction manuals can be found in the SHARI PiHat Unistorm Case folder (look for the Folder icon) in the FIles section of this group /g/SHARI/files Please email us at kitsforhams@... for additional information and to order. Turn Off Telemetry from Connected Network Nodes on ASL 3 5
Howdy. I recently upgraded my Shari Node to AllStarLink 3. I love the additional features, but I can't seem to turn off the telemetry announcing connections from nodes on a connected network. I wish to keep the telemetry on my Shari Node announcing local connections, but turn off distant nodes telemetry. I didn't have that issue on HamVoip. I have done quite a bit of research online, but can't seem to find a solution. I assume it is in rpt.conf file? Tnx for any suggestions. 73 Bill, K5LK

Simple Script to Concatenate and Archive Node Audio? 6
I¡¯m finally tired of manually enabling recording, after awhile, copying the files out of /tmp and manually joining them in an audio editor. Does anybody have a fairly simple script to do this that they don¡¯t mind sharing? Thanks 73, Chris

SHARI SA-818 STE tail tone
Hi, I have a SHARI SA-818. I believe the SA-818 puts out a 59 Hz STE tone. The handheld I have is a Quansheng UV-5R Plus witch responds to 55 Hz? Is there a way to change the PL reverse burst/DPL (DCS) shutoff tone? I believe that the programming software for the SA818 was updated to accommodate for a 59 Hz STE tone. Thanks, Izaac

High pitch whine on ShariPi4U 4
Greetings, I¡¯ve had one of these for years now and ever since I set it up, I noticed that when I key it up (not connected to another station) I can hear a high pitch whine when it comes back to me. I have the filtered power supply that came with it. (Has the RF choke on the cable prior to the power plug on the pi.) Is this a ¡°normal¡± feature of the device or is there a configuration option I have not properly tweaked. Thanks! 73 de K6EF

Integrating VHF SHARI-Pi and ASL3 to an Over-The-Air VHF Repeater 2
First off, I want to acknowledge I've gotten good advice from several people like @Partick Perdue, Freddie Mac (Ham Radio Crusader on YT), Mike (K5MDK) and a few others. @Chris Smart did say to check the Repeater Builder. But, the Repeater Builder group has so many posts that are not relevant to my search question. I couldn't find anything useful. Thanks anyway, Chris. I am sending this email mainly for @NH6BF who said: >I have been trying to do a RF link, also!!! Same results... >I would really appreciate some discussion on this from people who have succeeded. I sure there are, or will be, other who can benefit from it. Like others has said, integrating ALS3 with SHARI-Pi over the air is not the best way to do this. The ideal solution is to hardware the Pi to the repeater with an interface cable enabling the Pi to monitor the Carrier Operated Squelch (COS) or Carrier Operated Relay (COR) signals directly. Also, use SHARI-Pi or the repeater controller to control transmit, receive, and telemetry, but not both. Using the RF link method, there are delays and drawbacks. But, it does work. Freddie Mac has a good video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sLwouxzNZ88 and he brings up a good point: maybe you have a mountaintop repeater that has power, but no internet and you want to extend ALS3 (or some other VOIP solution) to it. Or, maybe the site lost its internet access and you need to bring up ASL3 for a temporary or emergency situation. Freddie might be a member. IDK. I did let him know this, so I'm not "talking behind his back". In my opinion, the video is kind of long and can really be condensed to "its better to directly interface the repeater" and "properly set the rpt.conf rxondelay setting." Having said that, let me get to the settings that work best for our set up. Your results are going to vary. Assuming you already have your ASL node number and password: 1) In a terminal on the Pi- set up the asl-menu and sa818-menu for your site. Freddie Mac has a great videos on the subject. 2) If not already there, cd /etc/asterisk. Make copies of your original rpt.conf and simpleusb.conf files by entering 'sudo cp rpt.conf rpt.orig && sudo cp simpleusb.conf simpleusb.orig". 3) sudo nano rpt.conf a) I wanted to increase some audio levels, so I changed erxgain = 3 and etxgain = 0. b) hangtime = 1500 althangtime = 0 These values are probably not applicable or being overridden by simpleusb. Maybe someone can tell me when and if they're used. c) Set the telemetry to your liking. d) I like Parrot, so I have parrotmode = 1 and parrottime = 200. This can get annoying if you have a lot of other users who like parrot. ? e) Per Freddie, I installed Supermon and added SMUPDATE=cmd,/usr/local/sbin/supermonASL_latest_update f) I uncommented 921 and 922 for Parrot. But I don't know if this does anything because in simpleusb, I changed the command to another DTMF number. So, please advise. g) Freddie has another great video on installing the time and weather module. For me, this works great! Video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u2GoV-c4rJg In the [functions] stanza, in the Status Commands section, I added "8 = cmd, perl /usr/local/sbin/saytime.pl <your_airport_code> <your_node_number> Mine is set to 8, but change yours to whatever you like. I do have a problem, though. It only plays the time and temp it got at the top of the last hour. It isn't playing the current time and weather. I saw somewhere there is a fix for it, but I had other fish to fry. I'll look for it later. h) In the [telemetry] stanza, I saw some emails about disabling the connect tones. I don't recommend this. Yes, the double set of tones may be annoying. But, the tones will tell you if your last transmission made it to the Asterisk server. Enabling the tones also let you know if another node is connected to your node (bonk vs. be-bop). But, you do you. i) Near the beginning of rpt.conf, wait_times = wait-times line commented out. So, the [wait_times] and [wait_times_hd] stanzas probably don't apply. I don't know. If they are being applied, there might be default val

#Shari PiZero: power via just one Micro USB? 6 #Shari
Hey Folks, My SHARI PiZero has 4 Micro USB ports but only one of them is labelled 'power' - can I also use the other three to power the device? I'm not overly fond of the Micro USB hole as a power socket and would prefer to spread wear & tear across all of them if I knew it were safe. Apologies if this has been asked before... Thanks. Mark.

rpt.conf receive delay setting? 7
OK, I'm going to open myself up for criticism and I'll probably get at least 1 "I told you so!" email. Go ahead. I earned it. ? I have a SHARI-Pi set up to transmit on the input of our local VHF repeater (Kenwood TK-750) and I have it set to receive on the output. People who've done this before at probably screaming at their computer, "OMG, NO!!" Well, it's not *that* bad. And, I can't think that I'm the only one to have done this. The problem is, when the SHARI-Pi stops transmitting, the repeater is still transmitting. The hang time on the VHF repeater is fairly long (3 seconds or so). The SHARI-Pi sees the RF from the repeater as activity and goes in to transmit. It drops after about a second, but by this time, the repeater sees the Pi's activity and goes back in to transmit. This cycle repeats indefinitely. In /etc/asterisk/rpt.conf, I found the hangtime and althangtime values. I changed them and they had no effect. I didn't expect them to change anything. I was hoping to find a rxdelay setting of some sort. I was hoping to find a setting that determined how long a valid RF signal had to be detected by the SA818 before it goes into transmit. Is there a parameter I missed that sets this value? Or, am I going about this the wrong way? I really am trying to avoid directly integrating the Pi into the Kenwood repeater. For our installation, an RF AllStar integration solution is much easier. Thank you very much, -Shawn (N6REP)
