Hi Steve,

?

Here is the connection for the rear heater screen on my 77 S1.? I'm the original owner so what you see is what Lotus did!? At least for the states.

As ?as shown, sh

as shown, the connections go to from the element (inner), hides in the rubber seal strip and bolts on the outer mounting bolt for the hinge.

There is an L shaped bracket that one side bolts to the wheel well, and the other side to the board, with a 6 mm bolt. Fold the carpet back to review the bolt head. The other end of that board is bolted to the rear wood panel that covers the rear indicator lights.

Thanks fellas! Jeff's pic suggests to me that the bent tabs on the backside may be to stand the board off crowding the rear side marker perhaps. Seems the board is just wedged into place rather than fastened?

Re: Boot Trim Board?

Yes, they do take the carpet. See following pic. On your pic,? it looks like the carpet side of one fastener is stuck to the board side.

Yes, part of the decking that goes around the motor and I’m pretty sure those black knobs take the carpet, maybe the vinyl cover that you can also buy for that area, Gordon

Re: Rear Screen heater connections

That makes sense. Many thanks for the help and have a great New Year?

John

Re: Rear Screen heater connections

I have not looked this up but it would make sense that the ground side passes through the hinges and the positive side passes through the single wire.? I believe the wire has been left that long is to eliminate stress when the rear lid is open.? Colin would like such an arrangement as it would be both inexpensive and lighter than a brush setup to go past the hinge point.

Electronically I’m in the same position as you and I’m pretty sure that the lose wire is connected to earth somewhere but what I would like help is where to connect it? I could run an earth wire from somewhere else but that won’t look very tidy so I don’t think that’s how it was done originally.

My limited understanding of this would be that power is applied at one side of the screen, ground ( earth ) at the opposite side so that current flows through the filaments.

Rear Screen heater connections

Hi All
Just trying to reinstate the rear screen heater. There is a wire haging lose and I'm wondering where it should be connected. When I press the dash switch there is power getting to the element! Hope the photos help
Many thanks

Re: cam carrier

Rich,

JAE and Garry Kemp in the UK both sell them. However, their available inventory (crown thicknesses) seem to vary from order to order. So ask what thicknesses they have in stock (it's like buying valve shims), and order what will work best for you.

The thinnest valve shims sold (only Lotus sold them) were 0.060" thick. You really can't go any thinner. Choosing tappets with thinner crowns will leave room for thicker shims, which will accommodate more years of valve recession (ie, the valve clearances closing up).

Also, if you have the option of tappets with longer or shorter skirts (the overall height of the tappet), go with the tallest skirts you can get, consistent with the crown thickness you need.

Regards,
Tim Engel

John, I am curious. Is your car fuel injected or does it have carburetors?

This will illustrate what you're dealing with, not terribly complicated.
