I would be very grateful if someone could check their Esprit and possibly send me some photos of how exactly the earth wire of the rear screen heater element is connected to the boot hinge. I can't believe that it's just attached to the side of the gas strut and hangs free? Many thanks

Re: Boot Trim Board?
开云体育There is an L shaped bracket that one side bolts to the wheel well, and the other side to the board, with a 6 mm bolt. Fold the carpet back to review the bolt head. The other end of that board is bolted to the rear wood panel that covers the rear indicator lights. ? Bill ? From: [email protected] <[email protected]> On Behalf Of wigl@...

Jeff's pic suggests to me that the bent tabs on the backside may be to stand the board off crowding the rear side marker perhaps. Seems the board is just wedged into place rather than fastened? |
Re: Boot Trim Board?
开云体育Yes, part of the decking that goes around the motor and I’m pretty sure those black knobs take the carpet, maybe the vinyl cover that you can also buy for that area, Gordon On Jan 3, 2024, at 8:52?PM, wigl@... wrote:

Boot Trim Board?
Season's greetings to the community! Amongst the trappings taken off my S2 long years ago, before I'd any idea of how the restoration would take so much time, I've found an unfamiliar piece. Having no photo record from which to place this I'm asking for help in where and how this was located. Looks to me like it conforms to the aft arc of a rear wheelarch, outer reaches of the boot. 3 hex head capscrews visible retain bent steel tabs on its backside, no idea what they're for. Pic attached.
Cheers Steve |
Re: Rear Screen heater connections
I have not looked this up but it would make sense that the ground side passes through the hinges and the positive side passes through the single wire.? I believe the wire has been left that long is to eliminate stress when the rear lid is open.? Colin would like such an arrangement as it would be both inexpensive and lighter than a brush setup to go past the hinge point. Mark |
Re: Rear Screen heater connections
开云体育Thanks ? Electronically I’m in the same position as you and I’m pretty sure that the lose wire is connected to earth somewhere but what I would like help is where to connect it? I could run an earth wire from somewhere else but that won’t look very tidy so I don’t think that’s how it was done originally. ? From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of wigl@... ? My limited understanding of this would be that power is applied at one side of the screen, ground ( earth ) at the opposite side so that current flows through the filaments. |

JAE and Garry Kemp in the UK both sell them. However, their available inventory (crown thicknesses) seem to vary from order to order. So ask what thicknesses they have in stock (it's like buying valve shims), and order what will work best for you. The thinnest valve shims sold (only Lotus sold them) were 0.060" thick. You really can't go any thinner. Choosing tappets with thinner crowns will leave room for thicker shims, which will accommodate more years of valve recession (ie, the valve clearances closing up). Also, if you have the option of tappets with longer or shorter skirts (the overall height of the tappet), go with the tallest skirts you can get, consistent with the crown thickness you need.
