Re: S2 dellorto main jet

OK so the top of the Jet that¡¯s exposed shows 230 but then I see it¡¯s actually 160 at the nozzle at the bottom so I guess that¡¯s what Hamill is referring to so I¡¯m not off that far and the tube itself shows 7772.8 which I think I¡¯ve read before is about where you want to be on the tube, but I just don¡¯t know about that 230 at the top, Gordon

Oil Switch, Federal Spec

Hello,

Is the pressure set point known for the oil switch located on the gallery take-off housing on the block? I'm trying a single wire alternator on my S2 so no path for current through the "Ignition" warning lamp. Figure I could feed through an NC pressure switch if the set point isn't too high, would serve to warn if ignition on, engine off.

Cheers
Steve?

Re: 78 Esprit s2 Wiper Switch

I fitted S3 Landrover switch. It looks the same but I had to cut the electrical plug off and swap over. The bend in the shaft was slightly different but was able to alter that in a vice.
I got it overnight from Landrover specialist which was a lot quicker than from UK (12000 miles away)

Re: 78 Esprit s2 Wiper Switch

I took mine apart, have every contact a clean and cover. Then fixed the switch end with another random wiper switch I had. Issue has been fixed. Thank you all!

Hi, If you cannot get one, Im pretty sure I will have a spare. However Im located in the UK so postage would be higher than acquiring one from the States. They are exactly same on the Elite and Eclat if you can source any of them?? Regards. lez

78 Esprit s2 Wiper Switch

Having issues with my wiper switch. Since I have had the car, the wiper has never worked. Today i decided to get serious with electrical, and cleaned every switch on the dash by taking them apart, decalcifying the grime and buffing then regreasing with a thin layer of dielectric grease and reassemblying. Now they all work great. I I then took off my wiper switch to inspect it. The end is busted off.I have checked with RD enterprises and they dont have one. SJS says they do not have one either. I tried lucas's classic website but cannot one one. I just need to talk to jae then. My question is, apparently these switches suck anyway from what I have read on some older forum posts. Are there any plug and play options for our cars? Photo attached.

Re: Paint/texture of Fed S2 bumper

I made some with .....

Expanded foam with a flexible coating over it, painted with Honda (gasp) black flexible paint.

It looks to me like the federal rear bumper, oh I got to stop myself. I¡¯ve got a replacement bumper because I believe they were vinyl covered? Originally. So did the vinyl have texture, so that I would texture the replacement ABS shell that I¡¯m using?. And then for the plinth which is the back up, angled piece that supports the bumper to the car, it looks like that should not have texture, and just be like a matte black? And the same for the front bumper?, Thanks, Gordon

Re: Paint/texture of Fed S2 bumper

The original Federal bumpers were chunks of expanded foam covered with a smooth, vinyl-ish skin. The ABS replacements seem to have more of a pebbled finish, as I recall.

Re: Hesitiant at low revs.

I DO give both my cars a check up on a regular basis. However, I am NOT a mechanic and do tend to rely on our UK MOT test to find any major problems. I cannot believe the UJ's failed completely in the few months since it was MOT'd, especially on the relatively few miles I have travelled since the last one. I will have to take more care and delve deeper myself in the future. Thanks again for all your help.

Re: Hesitiant at low revs.

Lindsay recently took ownership of his Esprit, brought over from the U.S. I believe.

Glad you found your problem, and it was an ¡®easy¡¯ solution.

?

Sounds like you don¡¯t do the annual inspection of your car like Lotus recommends. On a 40+ year old car, I consider that paramount. Good way to find those fuel leaks that cause fires, bad suspension and drivetrain issues.

?

I find it odd that Lotus recommends rebuilding the brakes every 2 or 3 years (I forget), but it¡¯s not mentioned in the maintenance schedule for my Jaguar XKR. It¡¯s on my list though, along with replacing the 20 year old brake hoses.

So, Finally fund out what the cause of the hesitancy is! After checking the carb float chambers for contaminated petrol, checked the floats, cleaned the jets three times,? checked the distributor, electronic ignition, fuel pump, coil, changed the plugs, checked the leads? ------ and all was well! ----- I went into the garage on Friday and noticed the nearside rear wheel looked slightly on an angle. Jacked the rear end up and found the UJ's were knackered!!

In 30+ years of Eclat ownership, using the car as my everyday runner, (I only had the Eclat), I can always tell when the UJ's are on their way out because you can hear a rumbling sound.

On the Esprit - not a whisper. Because the UJ's (on the Eclat) go down on a regular basis, I always keep a supply in. Ive now changed both UJ's on the nearside and voila-? no hesitancy. Happy day. Ive checked the offside and although not as bad, Im going to change them as well.? Thanks to everyone who came up with suggestions. They were all appreciated.
