Train tarrifs
I am going to try my best to keep this short and not political. Also hoping to not start days of old man cranky¡ Most of us have seen the new info clip that is getting around all the train groups about tariffs. If long term really happens - which I don¡¯t believe is likely - for those in the clip it is real and substantial. What I think is likely to happen is ¡°toys¡± will get a exemption like last time ¨C SOON- or a reduced rate. For us right NOW in S there is almost no impact. There is not a lot of anything NEW happening. ScaleTrains is scheduled to release reefers in October. They could easily delay that date and hope to ride it out. Anything from Des Plaines? They are the only possibilities I can think of right NOW. And the tariffs have nothing to do with Lionel ending American Flyer production. Slow sales and Lionel not offering NEW things to buy is what made that decision before anything tariff related happened. Custom Decal Recommendations Needed
4
Good morning. I have need of a reputable, reliable, and affordable decal print house. I'm asking for your recommendations, both positive ("I love this company") and negative ("Stay away from them"). I have designed several sheets of decals for both my personal layout and custom projects. I've done some looking on the web and am surprised by the print cost ($40 per sheet!). I don't need them designed, just printed! And please don't say, "Buy your own printer, decal sheets, and make your own." I've done that in the past, with very mixed results, and don't want to fool with it anymore. I'm spending my time designing them, let someone else who knows their stuff print them. Thanks! plastic sheet

I thought this was a good deal for plastic sheet. It is going to be the concrete floor in my engine house. It has a slight texture on 1 side but is smooth on the other side. https://www.ebay.com/itm/282604713726 Thank You, Bill Lane Modeling the Mighty Pennsy, PRSL & Reading in 1957 in S Scale since 1987 See my finished models at: http://www.lanestrains.com/My_Models.htm Look at what has been made in PRR in S Scale! S vs HO
3
Here are some photos of an HO loco I just delivered to a client. This model has 16 heavly modified scratch made details to make this basic USRA store bought brass model Missouri Pacific. Even the decals are custom made down to the correct builders plate. My S scale build of this model is sitting next to it. The client who is a major brass collector in the US assured me that this is the only model of this loco in HO. Also until someone can prove me wrong mine is the only one in S scale -- Mike Swederska Meramec Valley Lines Modeling Mopac equipment in 3/16 https://www.youtube.com/@mikesscale3149 Don't let perfection get in the way of good enough! Model Train Storage Cabinet........(for sale)
Gents......... Today's offering is for a custom made (by me and train buddy Earl) storage cabinet with perfect measurements for S scale trains of all kinds except narrow gauge. With minor modifications, the Sn3 or On3 or O folks could probably make it work for them. High quality plywood with moveable shelves, handles, clips for op session cards, foam bumpers in back, etc. I call it a "minimum footprint staging yard" and that describes its purpose and function very well. Footprint is 20" x 36". Height is 49". Space between shelves is 5-1/2" . Holds 112 40-foot S scale cars. Too big to be shipped. Must pick it up in Los Altos, CA. Not fragile. SUV, van or pickup will work. Make me smile with your best reasonable offer. When I show my teeth, hop in your vehicle and come get it. Thanks.................Smiling Ed L. -- Ed Loizeaux Los Altos, CA www.nycvd.org

For Brooks
2
Brooks, LOOK!!!!! New ballast!!! The main lines are completely ballasted now for the first time ever. A few turnouts have been blank for about 4 years. My down ramps are done too. This is my money shot - possibly my favorite photo I have taken of my layout so far but you did not use it because of no ballast in places. http://www.lanestrains.com/My_Layout_Photos/Helicon_Focus_9.jpg Very early tomorrow I will be getting my hernia fixed. Hopefully that is not tied to the very unexpected sale of a large S Scale collection. I will be out of work for 6 weeks. My goal is to have all the ballast done before going back to work. Converting Covered Hoppers, was For Sale, various...
3
To each their own... I converted several of the Lionel covered hoppers to NYC Lot 915-H models, but did not use new bolsters, only SHS 70-ton RB trucks. I am also very pleased with the result... The process is explained in the December 2014/January 2015 S Scale Resource. SHS SW-8 Cab Removal

I am trying to get at the interior of the subject cab. I see that it is a separate piece of plastic, but I cannot get it to separate from the body. The manual says to release a tab below the cab side window, but I don't such a tab. Anyone know how to do this? Many thanks in advance! Steve

Sacramento Northern SMMW 44 Tonner #147
I finally got round to finishing up my Smokey Mountain Model Works resin GE 44 tonner kit. The Sacramento Northern's #147 was an early Phase 1 loco (1947) acquired second hand by the SN and was the final 44 tonner on their roster. My SN 1970's era loco roster is now up to three locomotives, per the attached photo. Bob Hogan

2-4-4-T
3
I probably should just sit on my hands and stand aside for those who had more first-hand experience of what happened before I was in S scale, but my study of the past literature (and owning a Rex Suburban myself) suggests that what you have is the re-run of the Rex by Jack Sudimak as Putt Trains, indicated by the Mashima motor and the nylon worm and gear. I had one of the re-issued 2-6-0's with those modifications, as distinct from the brass worm, fiber gear, and PIttman motor in my other Rex locomotives. As to the trailing truck, I had not known that either Rex nor Culp ever did an Andrews truck; so far as I've been able to learn, the first Andrews was the Northeastern (later Kinsman), and yours doesn't look quite like that. The Rex trailing truck usually had working leaf springs, but I suppose some were made with coil. JGGK

Oriental SW-1 For Sale
Hi, My SW-1 has been in storage for a number of years. It's painted Southern Pacific Tiger Stripe # 1004 I haven't run it for about 15 years except to test it a few days ago. The cap on the stack is missing. The horn came off but is in the box. It has a very old DCC unit that probably needs to be replaced. I would also suggest a "Keep Alive" unit as it has a tendency to stall. $350.00 plus shipping Pictures on request, please contact me directly. Let me know if you are interested. Take care, Bill

Rex Suburban Truck (was: Re: [S-Scale] 2-4-4-T)
2
Rex never made an Andrew¡¯s truck with flexible leaf springs. The early 2-4-4T Suburban kit (my first loco build ar age 14, in 1953) had a Cult leaf-sprung Andrews trailing truck. And the cast wheels were robbed on the back side. (These somewhat large Culp Andrews trucks are nearly dead ringers for the Benner¡¯s Crown trucks found beneath PRR Class H21 quad hopper cars.) A few years later I reworked my Suburban into a true NYC Class D2-a. Main changes: shortening the coal bunker and altering cab appearance. No photos, but Dave Jasper currently owns the loco. -- Dick Karnes, MMR
