I probably should just sit on my hands and stand aside for those who had more first-hand experience of what happened before I was in S scale, but my study of the past literature (and owning a Rex Suburban myself) suggests that what you have is the re-run of
the Rex by Jack Sudimak as Putt Trains, indicated by the Mashima motor and the nylon worm and gear.? I had one of the re-issued 2-6-0's with those modifications, as distinct from the brass worm, fiber gear, and PIttman motor in my other Rex locomotives.??
As to the trailing truck, I had not known that either Rex nor Culp ever did an Andrews truck; so far as I've been able to learn, the first Andrews was the Northeastern (later Kinsman), and yours doesn't look quite like that.? The Rex trailing truck usually
had working leaf springs, but I suppose some were made with coil.

Continuing onward.........Note:? One of the tender trucks is not original REX.? Don't ask me which one.? I don't have a clue.
Thanks.......

From: JGG KahnSrI was not aware that Jack Sudimak had any connection with Putt Trains. Regarding trucks, Culp did indeed produce an Andrews truck (with coil or leaf springs). Rex made only one truck, a Buckeye Bettendorf-style truck. It was equalized but not sprung. Both makes are described on the NASG site: <> -- Bill Roberts, Receiver San Antonio & Aransas Pass Railway Co. * * * Notice to travelers * * * Local innkeepers have the express authority to refuse service to any SAP employee who appears to be intoxicated or lacking complete control of his faculties. I may have been hazy on the progression; perhaps it was Rex, then Sudimak (J&S?), last Putt, where it has sat on the shelf for some years???
I am not clear when the nylon gearing was introduced, although I suspect it may have been Putt (with the can motor); the mogul with those I once owned was sold to me as a Putt re-issue.??
My understanding is that the Ace equalized Bettendorfs differ from the Rex/Culp primarily because the latter have cast-in brakeshoes; any Ace equalized I've acquired have been in passing as I much prefer their sprung version (for personal rather than operational
reasons).
If I have ever encountered Culp Andrews trucks I have not identified them as such; I've tended to consider any older Andrews trucks as just? Northeastern.
