Stones grovel as olive branch for feuding brothers

julesalexgray

Hi

I realise I've been grovelling way too much of late, but you see, me
and my brother have been feuding like a pair of bull reindeer and I
want to do something to patch it up.

Has anybody got The Rolling Stones' Trident Sessions they can burn
for my bro'? I'm the burnerless fool who will need to swap for b+p,
analog (tape) trade or one of those 'burn and return' deals as was
discussed earlier.

Let me know offlist if you can help restore the Gray family karma.

Lotta love,

Jules Upon the Sea

In today's NY Times crossword puzzle, one of the clues is "Guitarist Lofgren."

AOTW SCHEDULE Update

It's been another great week for the AOTW series. In spite of the unexpected
problem our many AOL-served subscribers had in joining us at the outset, the
ball started to roll early in the week, and there's been a great deal of
interesting and informative discussion relating to "Life" ever since. Please
keep it coming! A big "thanks!" to George "Prisoner of Rock 'n' Roll"
Howlett for his great introductory post on Monday!

With "Life," Neil bid adieu to Geffen Records, and, on Monday, Guy "Brand
New Guy" Haslam will get the conversation started on Neil's return to his
former label, Reprise. As was the case with "Old Ways" - when viewed in
terms of the International Harvesters era as a whole - the album "This
Note's For You" hardly scratched the surface of what the Bluenotes era was
all about. Guy will help us to take a look at the complete picture, and, as
always, AOTW encourages you to listen to a Bluenotes show or two in addition
to the album release. Why not get those "Ten Men Workin'" tonight?

Here's the remainder of the AOTW schedule:

Mon., Mar 25 - This Note's For You
(Guy "Brand New Guy" Haslam)

Mon., Apr. 1 - American Dream
(Laurie "The DJ's Daughter" Hoffman)

Mon., Apr. 8 - Freedom, plus Eldorado
(Chuck "Jersey Boy" Doering)

Mon., Apr. 15 - Ragged Glory, plus Weld and Arc
(Cathy "Now My Fins Are In The Air" Melio)

Mon., Apr. 22 - Harvest Moon, plus Unplugged
(Deb "Rewriting The Rules" Schulmeister)

Mon., April 29 - Sleeps With Angels
(Marilyn "Neesah" Martin)

Mon., May 6 - Mirror Ball, plus Merkinball and Dead Man
(J. "A Dog That Bites" Marr)

Mon., May 13 - Broken Arrow, plus Year Of The Horse
(Mike "Canadian Club and Solitaire" Gill)

Mon., May 20 - Silver And Gold (in recording date chronology)
(Joost "I Am A Child" Groen)

Mon., May 27 - Looking Forward
(Fred "fRed Sun" Tenisci)

Mon., June 3 - Road Rock, Vol. 1
(Doug "Crazy Moon" Butterick)

Mon., June 10 - Are You Passionate?
(Cosmo "rustINhead" Spada)

A big "thank you!", as always, to all of our previous AOTW discussion
instigators ... yours truly (Buffalo Springfield), Jules Gray (B.S. Again /
Last Time Around), Ian Rosen (Neil Young), Dave Green (Everybody Knows This
Is Nowhere), Ted Krever (Deja Vu / 4 Way Street), Mike Cordova (After The
Gold Rush), John Gallaher (Harvest / Journey Through The Past), David Schles
(Time Fades Away), Joe Penczak (Tonight's The Night), Col Young (On The
Beach), Lou Cheffy (Zuma), Howard Leamon (Long May You Run), Bob Johnson
(American Stars 'n Bars / Decade), Charlie Macon (Comes A Time), Braden
Strickler (Rust Never Sleeps / Live Rust), Hughie McGhee (Hawks & Doves),
Cyman Davies (Re-ac-tor), David Walsh (Trans), Ryan McNeil (Everybody's
Rockin'), Chris Skinker (Old Ways), Randy Watt (Landing On Water), and
George Howlett (Life).

Here's hoping all of us "Ordinary People" have a great weekend ... feelin'
"Sunny Inside."

Best,

Jim

changing my handle in honor of LOW

I haven't participated in the AOTW discussions, but I have been listening to each one, ALL WEEK LONG, when it's time comes.

Surprise, I found myself humming/toe tapping to LOW long after I stopped playing it. I used to HATE this album. Things have changed I guess, who knows. I can't get 'People on the Street' out of my head! I think I'm going to change my handle in honor of LOW. Checked the Rust Registry, and so far no one has this one...but if I'm stealing someone's handle, just let me know:

All songs played live by Neil and CH???

Hi there,

As some of you know, I've been trying to put together a list of all songs that were ever performed live (and taped) by Neil and Crazy Horse. After that, I decided to put together a compilation with at least one version of all of those songs. I think I have a rather complete list now, that I'm going to post in this mail. I'd like to run it by you because I want to be as complete as possible. Sorry to those who are not interested for the amount of space it takes.

Anyway, I wanted to ask if anyone knows of a song that is missing from the list. If you do, please mail me offline the song and the date. The scope is NOT solo performances by Neil within CH shows! Only songs performed acoustically and electrically by one of the CH line ups.

Also, this is not an invitation for early grovels. When it is completed and there is interest to tree it or something, I will notify you. Since I'm in the last phase of getting all of the sources needed together, it'll probably take another two months to finish it because I have to do some cleaning (or an attempt to do so) as well. Compiling will be done on MD and stand alone burner (don't have a computer burner).

Although I have never spoken to them directly, I'd like to thank Tom Hambleton, Bill DeBlonk and Matt Butterweck for providing all statistics on their internet pages. That really helped me a lot. And especially I like to thank all the kind people who have assisted in gathering all the sources. You know who your are!

Amen! I still think AMNAM is Neil's greatest ever song (but just too
overblown as a recording).

Huh!
You should worry, here in the UK the mail has been more expensive than that
for a couple of years and looks set to go up again in the foreseeable future.
AND the service is getting worse!

Shawn, great idea. I'm wondering what you're going to do

leave them out? Use Rustie tributes?
What about substituting live songs from this era that didn't make LOW
or Life? There was a couple of songs on ABD from 1984 with the
Horse - we could use them. At least it would be Neil. I think
Rustie versions in the middle of a Neil comp would sound out of
place. Just MO.
