QCX 40m Rev2 PCB?

The PCB I got with my QCX 40m kit doesn't look like that pictured in the Rev 1.08 PDF instructions.I only noticed the difference *after* I soldered?in the 28-pin IC2 socket. The PCB has "CW tcvr?QRP Labs 2017 2" in the lower right corner. The diagram stenciled on the PCB shows IC2 upper left as in the V1.08 manual but the 28-pin holes are lower right. The manual refers to 26-pin IC2 but I have a 28-pin socket and 28pin IC hand labeled with tape as T1.00e. I put the IC socket in with dimple to left - a 50/50 chance of correct.

I'm very confused...appreciate some help!

Sounds like you have the PCB upside down but your description suggests that you haven't, any chance of a picture?

The manual refers to soldering in 2 pins of IC2 to check it is seated correctly then soldering in the other 26 pins. Nowhere else does it refer to 26 pins (I searched).

The dimple on the socket should be aligned with the dimple on the silk screen, IE nearest the BNC contact.
Look at the picture in the manual it is very clear.

Here's a picture?of my PCB sitting on p12 of V1.08 manual. Yes, just must be a typo with "26-pin" as I count 28 in the p12 photo.

Hi Bret

The silkscreen has been printed incorrectly on that PCB. The silkscreen is 180-degrees rotated wrongly... wow. I have never seen that before!?

You could probably build the kit by ignoring the printed silkscreen and veey carefully following only the diagrams in the manual. Or I can get a new PCB and 28-pin socket sent to you if you prefer. Please email me privately off-list in that case.

You have some rework ahead of you... The silkscreen appears to be wrong. It might be hard to complete with the silkscreen rotated 180 degrees.. A real challenge!

This might be time for a new board from Hans!

I guess that newly arrived kits should check the silkscreen to see if they align with the holes. I do not know if the boards are produced as panels (maybe many wrong at once) or singularly (maybe just an occasional rotated the wrong way).

Hi Charles...

I'm afraid,? no new? PCB? .. looks like the parts print does not match the layout..???? seems to be reverted by 180 degree for me...??? really hope, that this is a unique production failure...?

(see the ISP 2 x 3 Pins ( pins right side,? print left side)? and the 'big hole' for the audio pot? up right? and print down left..as orientation points...)

The only reference to 26 pins in the QCX manual is on page 14 where it says ...

"I recommend soldering one pin at each diagonal, for example pins 1 and 15. ............... When you are happy with the position of the socket, proceed with soldering the other 26 pins."

NB:? it recommends soldering two pins then "the other 26 pins" = 28 pins.

There is something seriously wrong with the board in your photo ... it looks like the silk screen 'components placement' has been printed the wrong way around on the board.? Perhaps ask Hans for a replacement board as it will be VERY confusing trying to build with that!

Rotate your board 180 degrees, you will find the 28 pin lines up properly and the 2 SMD components are in correct position.?

Hi Hans - Sorry for on-list but I haven't received that yet. BRET

Got that! Thirty-three days later. I also got a package from AMSAT-NA 29 days after they mailed it 1st Class USPS from Maryland, USA. Post XMAS our US Postal System appears to have crashed. Except for Amazon deliveries, which are only a few days late..,
