QMX, WSJT-X 2.7.0, Hamlib 4.6.2 DLL - Odd Behavior

When I power up my low-band QMX, put it into DiGi mode, then start WSJT-X in FT8 mode, I get tons of decodes.
?
If I then enable transmit, it will transmit with about 3.5 watts on 20m and my signal, as reported by pskreporter.info, covers the entire United States (at least today).
?
However, after that first transmission my decodes stop.? Even though the QMX is still in DiGi mode, I can no longer hear FT8 stations.?
?
If I then put the QMX into USB mode then I can hear lots of FT8 stations and decoding resumes, but as soon as WSJT transmits it puts the QMX back into DiGi mode, I can no longer hear FT8 stations, and the decoding stops.? My transmitted signal continues to be heard throughout the United States.
?
Any suggestions as to what I'm doing wrong?

I have not experienced this. Thats a strange one!
?
Have you tried a ferrite bead on your USB cable or a different mfger cable? I have a ferrite clip on bead on my cable as a preventative measure.

Good suggestion, but after replacing the USB cable with one that has two ferrites, I see the same behavior.

I'm running Windows 10 and I just noticed that the sound card shows as a QDX, not a QMX.? For those of you on Windows, does yours show QDX or QMX?? I have a few QDXs and have used them on this PC before, but why it still says QDX I have no idea and non idea how to get it to show QMX.? Checking w/Grok ...

It's fixed!
?
First, the problem with the QMX driver not showing up.? I was able to get the QMX to show under Soundcard Input and Output devices by:
?
1. Turn of QMX.
2. Go to Device Manager and removing the QDX driver.
3. Power up the QMX and Windows automatically found it.
4. Go back into WSJT-X, go into Settings, Audio, and there are the QMX drivers.
?
But I still had the the problem where decoding after transmitting no longer works.??
?
I fixed it by going into WSJT-X, Settings, Radio tab, and set Mode to "None" (I had it as "Data").? Perhaps Hans should add on page 85 of the QMX manual something to the effect of:
?
"Set Mode to ¡°None¡± to avoid WSJT-X trying to keep changing your mode to SSB (USB); you need to use DiGi mode for WSJT-X (pure FSK modes)."
?
Oh, wait, it's already there :-)
?
RTFM.??

Jim-
I had the same problem with my QMX+.? It would receive FT8 signals (in digi mode), but as soon as WSJT-x sent any CAT command (such as transmitting or even changing bands) the decodes stopped and the waterfall was quiet.? If I switched to CW mode, it would decode again.? Along the way I discovered that I could get it to decode in digi mode again simply by entering and exiting the QMX menu.
?
The problem turned out to be a setting in WSJT-x.? In the "Radio" tab, set "Mode" to "None"; mine was set to "Data/Pkt."? Don't let WSJT-x change the radio's mode; set it to digi yourself using the QMX's controls.??
?
After making that change, it's working great- no problems making FT8 contacts or switching between bands.
?
One other point that I've discovered; only power up the QMX AFTER WSJT-x has been started.? Otherwise, the QMX goes into "terminal mode" (or whatever it's called), and it won't communicate with WSJT-x.? But if you power up the QMX while WSJT-x is running, it WSJT-x will connect to the QMX and you won't get those annoying "reconfigure" errors.

Larry is correct.
This is the answer.
?
WSJT-x (actually hamlib) does not use the mode commands correctly for QMX, and for some reason sends a 'lower-sideband digital' code to QMX if you set the mode to "Data/Pkt".? It also uses the vfo a/b incorrectly for split mode.? (I think these are carry-overs from the Kenwood protocol from which the QMX commands were implemented).
?
So until this is fixed, you must set the WSJT-X radio "Mode" and "Split" to "none", as illustrated in the QMX operation guide.

That explains what was happening to me.? When it was in digi mode and it wasn't working, I could hear the signals and see them on the waterfall if I tuned away from the "watering hole" frequency.? I forget which way I had to tune (up or down).? But even though I could see and hear signals, WSJT would not decode them.? It seemed as if it were on LSB instead of USB (kinda like it was hearing a mirror image of each tone instead of hearing the correct offset from the base frequency).

Thanks!
