QDX xmit one flash

I submitted a previous topic regarding the audio migration settings. That may not be the problem. I finished my QDX build and am now trying to get it to operate. It comes on just fine and I updated the firmware to 1.10. Cat control is fine, as well. The problem I am having seems to be with the audio. My QDX is not hearing anything nor does it transmit. When I place the QDX, I get just a single flash of the LED. I l found in the operations manual this means my QDX is not receiving any audio. I did check the WSJT-X settings and QDX is set as my input and output. It also appears the audio configuration on my computer (win11) shows full levels for the QDX input and output. I've changed USB cables, but that didn't fix anything. So, what is my next troubleshooting step?

Thanks,
Wayne KB4DSF

Do you have the power slider in WSJT-X set to maximum? It needs to be at max for the QDX to work.

Thanks for the reply. I did forget to mention my power slider is set to max. The problem I am having is the QDX has no audio in or out. Also, I just noticed this error as I continued to troubleshoot:

OK...now I am getting two flashes on the LED. I am still not getting any audio in or out, however.

From page 10 of the manual:

LED flashes 2 times in quick succession, repeating every 1 second: the PC host software
application is sending audio to QDX, and QDX is detecting and measuring the incoming
audio, however the volume is too low

But would that explain why the QDX is not hearing anything? I do have the output and input devices set in my audio settings to 100%

No.

But what do you have the audio devices set as, in WSJT-X? Should be something like QDX-input, QDX-output. (Use F2 to go to settings, then the Audio tab).

Looks ok to me.

Sorry, I can't help much more. Is the waterfall display showing anything?

Maybe time to start checking the receive signal path back from the antenna socket.

Thanks, Roger. The waterfall isn't showing anything. I'm really thinking this a sound card issue, but I've looked at everything I can think of related to audio devices in my computer.

Could it be something with the USB jack?

Can you access the QDX using the terminal interface? i.e using Putty?

If you can, and you have a dummy load, you can run the RF sweeps and test CAT and transmit.

That should tell you if the USB link is good. That said, a lot of people have had USB cable issues...so it is well worth trying different cables.

Yep. Here is my RF Filter Sweep:

I also ran a VN command in CAT command test and got the correct firmware version as a response.

Wayne

So if you attach a dummy load and do the transmit test, what happens?

I get a momentary single fast flash on the LED and PTT Signal in putty shows on, then off when I run a PTT test. I get a single slow flash on the LED when I run a PTT and Transmit test and the PTT Signal and Transmitter shows on, then off.

By 'a single slow flash', I am assuming you mean 'pulsing', while you hold down 't'.

Good.

Does your dummy load have a power meter attached, or can you measure the voltage across the dummy load when transmitting? That will give an idea of whether your signal is getting all the way out to the antenna socket.

Correct, pulsing. I didn't hold it the keys down until you suggested that, lol. OK, my dummy load does have a power meter attached. It's analog and the needles do not move at all. I'm not sure about measuring the voltage across the dummy load, though. That I've never done.

Ok. So no output at the dummy load.

I would now start working backwards from the BNC socket centre pin, through the LPFs to the PA, checking for continuity. QDX turned off, ok!

I suspect you have a poorly soldered toroid.

Maybe. I did check them all and they all ohmed out correctly. So, during my troubleshooting, I came across this error again:

I'm still thinking this is either a sound card problem (I know there isn't a separate sound chip; the sound card is embedded in the microcontroller) or some stupid and rediculous sound setting in my computer that I just can't find.

Wayne

Ok. Sorry Wayne. I am out of ideas, Windows is not my scene.

Maybe someone else can help.

Wayne,

I'm not a Windows guy, but in Linux sometimes the QDX soundcard can get assigned to the wrong device, such as HDMI or something of the sort and it has to be corrected to get it to work with the QDX.
