[Bug Report] 1_00_009 Bugs I have encountered #qmx #firmware

Just took my QMX out for a POTA activation after updating the firmware and encountered two bugs. Originally I wasn't receiving anything but performing a factory reset instantly fixed this. (Mine is an early unit and I later performed that inductor mod mentioned in the forums so thats probably why that happened. Might be a good idea to mention this to anyone who performs this modification)

Bug 1: Power off doesn't seem to work. I press and hold the volume button and get the "power down" message but no matter how long I press nothing else happens.

Bug 2: Odd behavior with the text entry for the message menu. At a certain point the thing refuses to let me input spaces into my message. To get around this, I had to but a placeholder character for all the spaces then go through a second time and switch them to spaces (i.e. I had to enter "CQ1POTA1DE1KM4CFT" then hit enter then change all the 1s to spaces) Also, if the text extends past the screen width it doesn't seem to scroll back when you restart text entree. Made entering "BK RR TU TU ES 72 EE" a bit of a hassle.

Not sure if Hans is aware of these issues, but thought I would mention them.

Hi Jonathan

The power down button is certainly working for me... So I am curious why it doesn't work for you. There must be some specific conditions which cause it not to work. For example, were you running something in the terminal? Like Diagnostics? Power down should work when you are in main menu on the terminal and normal operating mode on the radio.?

Bug #2 I will investigate.?

Hi Hans,

I certainly am not in terminal mode. It doesn't work even if I simply turn on the radio then hold the volume button down indefinitely nothing happens beyond the "Shutdown!" message.
I went ahead and recorded a video demonstrating it:

Hello Jonathan

When I've seen this symptom once before, it was on a SMPS board that had the Q103/Q104 drain short, that had been repaired; prior to the repair, on initial power up diode D101 had been fried. Subsequently?on moving Q103/Q104 apart slightly, the radio would work apart from it wouldn't shut down. I replaced D101 with another 1N4148 and all was well.?

Ah okay that actually makes sense. I think I had to redo my solder work on those boards due to a solder whisker so thats probably what happened. Didn't realize it would damage the board though. Once I have some spare time I'll replace D101 on? y QMX. I should have a few 1N4148 diodes in my supply drawer.

Hi Hans,
I just performed the suggestion and the QMX still does not power down. I followed your instruction on your most recent YouTube video and did not see a short between q103 and q104. Regardless, I removed D101 and replaced it with a 1n4148 and the problem persists.
