Hi Steve, I spotted the mistake, but Phillip G4JVF was the first to publish it, so the thanks should go to him, on a different subject I now have the Ultimate QRSS chip V 1.3 (thank you to you and Hans for all your hard work I know you both do this in your spare time) I will use my U-QRSS for mainly for WSPR but will not be connecting a GPS module, I have no problem with entering Time and Loc per hand, so my question is do I need the V 1.4 upgrade?

I will be buying another U-QRSS kit and I am looking at the website everyday in the hope that the number of kits will change from 3 to 100+, I can see this as being another Tony Parks story with your kits being sold out within a couple of hours. 73 de Colin DD5CF --- In [email protected], Stephen Farthing <squirrox@...> wrote:

Hi Phillip many thanks for your reply, yes I had spotted the mistake on the slip of paper I have built a couple of BPF's so it didn't look right ( note to Steve the info about the wrongly labled slip is from Phillip so thanks should go to him)thank you also for the info on the changes you made I will look into that once I get the kit to osc, is there much QRSS activity on 160m? I was looking on the internet but could find any grabbers for top band, it all seems to be centered around 30m band

I built one and it works very well...running last night in fact... Not had any problems with the osc starting up though.. Few things I timkered with.. I couldnt get enough FSK shift with the twisted wire C3 so I used a 10pf small variable trimmer cap which cured it.. My output power was much lower than my other QRSS kits and I found that increasing C11 coupling cap, from the PA to the output filter from 1n to 15n helped in that respect.. Also, the slip of paper instruction for the 160 meter version has some caps labeled wrongly (I think..... please check Steve). It says C5 & C6 are 820pf and C7 & C8 are 2.2nF... I think it should read C5 & C8 are 820pf and C6 & C7 are 2.2nF... Good luck with it Philip G4JVF --- In QRPLabs@..., "woodiescbj" <jobaco@...> wrote:

Hi Kevin, thanks for your reply, yes its the old one I have always wanted to do something on top band I thought this would be a good way to start, I will give your idea a try this weekend.

Hi
Another thing one could try assuming its the older QRSS TX, not the new multimode one, is to bypass the collector resistor of the oscillator transistor. A 100nF capacitor across that resistor may help. The unbypassed resistor provides (unintentional) negative feedback and in some situations can cause problems. Kevin ZL1UJG |

More likely to need a bit more feedback? try some?capacitance ~30pF? from base to emitter or base to collector. Or across other oscillator components. It may kick-start.? Sent from Chris McW's iPhone Amateur radio callsign: G?MQW

QRSS transmitter 160m band, help needed please
"woodiescbj"
Hi, has anyone else built this one? I can not get the Xtal to oscillate all componants are in the right place with values checked and correct, no dry joints or solder splashes, number of turns on L1 maybe need adjusting?
Any ideas please. 73 de Colin DD5CF |

Thanks for all the help both on the group and also the direct e-mails. I've just got to box it up now and put it on air to test. I've tried all modes in the shack with the TX fed into a dumyload and all appears OK. In the end I had to configure the Trimble ACE iii GPS for $GPRMC using some software I found on the net called NMEATool. I had to go through a MAX233 level convertor so that my serial port could talk to the GPS module for configuring it. I then fed the NMEA from the GPS direct to the RxD pin on the kit. The 1PPS was also fed direct from the GPS module to the Pps pin on the kit. I then configured the kit for USE GPS ON and set it up for 4800,01,1,8 Then after a short while I got the Frequency appear when in the TEST mode. Thanks again all. Re: 76 hours and counting..

Phillip,
That is very encouraging. When I have the time I am thinking of a couple of modifications for mine. Remote mounting of the GPS is a good idea.? Firstly, to save power, I was going to try switching the display off when I don't need it. Secondly to put a stepped attenuator between the beacon and the aerial so I can see how low I can go!?
I am waiting for the voltage regulators you recommended to arrive from the orient.? 73s Steve G0XAR |
76 hours and counting..
"Philip"
My Ultimate QRSS rig has now run for 76 hours without problems
using WSPR mode.. It's been using a 10AH lead acid battery for power and today, it measured 11.3 Volts on the terminals, a drop from 12.4 Volts which isn't bad for untethered power (had the solar panel disconnected). Anyhoo, very pleased and will turn it off later for some mods... Going to put the GPS module into a seperate box with 6 pin din connectios to the rig. This means with a din socket on each QRSS rig, I can easily swap/share the GPS module. Also, will be fitting a variable DC to DC convertor to give a variable supply to the PA transistor for tweaking power levels.. Great fun with loads of spots and a fair few inter G on 30 today.. I have uploaded a series of test notes, observations, etc. to the "Files" area under "G8OQW". All notes are in txt format and appear packaged with any associated pictures. Hope these might be of some use to others. Comments welcome. David G8OQW *** |
