Hi Kevin, thanks for your reply, yes its the old one I have always wanted to do something on top band I thought this would be a good way to start, I will give your idea a try this weekend.

Another thing one could try assuming its the older QRSS TX, not the new multimode one, is to bypass the collector resistor of the oscillator transistor. A 100nF capacitor across that resistor may help.
The unbypassed resistor provides (unintentional) negative feedback and in some situations can cause problems.
