Hey, Adam.

As if moving doesn't give me enough to do in the next 10 days, Mom has a
list as long as her arm of things she wants to do, which is cool. I hope I
have her energy as I age. I won't be able to participate in the shark
drags, but depending on how we schedule our day that Sunday we might well
be able to stop by for a visit.

Hey, Tom.

It'd be great if you could lend a hand on the 24th! More details to follow
soon.

It seems I'll be missing out on a lot that weekend: the shark drags (and I
had a cute little cocktail dress picked out), an autocross, Mark A. on
Speedvision. Maybe somebody will tape the show? Honestly, I haven't had
cable since I moved here and I do miss Speedvision (uh, oh, Le Mans is this
weekend!).

Hey, Andy.

I sure could use help! This will be a lot easier than that time I moved
out of a 3rd-floor apartment--that was a pain. I'll be sure to provide
more details soon, as the 24th is quickly approaching (next Saturday). Let
me know if you need help moving things out of storage.

Do you often park on the 400 block 1st of First Ave in Seattle? I work on
King street and often see a nice brown early model.

Re: Shark Sighting

Adam Birnbaum

Hey Lloyd,

Any chance of bringing the crank to the drags? (still coming, right?) It
would be interesting to see. Also, why don't you bring/race your Talon,
its still a high tech import you know.

insufficient oiling. 2 rod bearings seized, heated the crank to a
pleasant black colour (pictures to follow), and scored the cylinders
associated. So, the crank is a total write off and the block will take
extensive machine work to get back in shape (aluminum impregnanted with
silicon is a beggar to work I'm told) so I'm investigating a replacement
motor.

What will really torque me though, is if I put all this money into it
and I can't squeeze out enough to stroke it out... I'm looking for the
bright side here.

My name is Lloyd and I have been forcefully excluded from the thrill of
punching the gas and watching everybody disappear in the mirrors...

Looks like I'm in for another motor. The crank was blackened from
generated heat and some cylinder walls were damaged (and getting machine
work on these works of art is truly exciting).

Ugh

Adam,

I park the shark in the garage over large pieces of new cardboard, and the
one thing I have been extremely proud of is that for a 12 year old card, I
did'nt have one single oil spot!!! Until lately, but still the only one is
by the rear rt tire. One person siad something about bleed valve or change
valve for the power steering might be there..but I highly doubt that. BTW:
Trans fluid is right on.

Hey Ray,

It may not be the same leak. Both the power steering and A/T use automatic
transmission fluid. I would guess that the power steering is leaking ATF
around the boots of your steering rack, and the tranny is leaking, well,
all over. (Welcome to the club).

Ok, I know I am not a mechanic by a long stretch, but I have not had the
chance to look under the hood until last night. I checked the Power
steering
fluid (Thinking that it would be ok, since I show no leaks under the
car..execpt one real slow one by the passenger rear tire...thinking it is
a
small brake leak.) But, low and behold it is really low!! and the same
color
as the leak in the rear!! Ok..so what is a power steering line doing back
there?? And is any type of bleeding necessary?

Not sure if anyone is already doing this but I could video the days events
and compile a CD for anyone that wants one. You could replay on your
computer (SW does a multitude of formats) or the family DVD player, I
don't
have professional equipment just my computer and camcorder.

Just a thought.

Called a local Mercedes (in Coeur d'alene) specialist about my gearbox
leak
and once over the "I don't work on Porsche's" issue he was very helpfull.
Unfortunately he can;t think of a probable cause but said he would do some
investigating and get back to me. Fingers crossed. Meanwhile will top up
today and give it a blast.
