Hi ASIair users.... This is a reposte in hopes of getting responses related to USB connection. I am helping a friend set up his recently purchased ASIAir Plus and G11G w Gemini2 (which I sold him). He says the ASIair will not recognize the mount via USB. I don't know which cable he is using, and will see him this week. So I ask: Is there a proper sequence to startup and get connected and ready to do a Go To. Assume the mount has been levelled and is polar aligned. I always liked Cold Start w CWD: --- Everything powered off: --- ASIair physically connected via printer cable to Gemini2 control box. --- Mount is in CWD position. --- ASIair App (on Galaxy S9 turned off) If the ASIair will not recognize the USB connection to the mount, then what should I try? Change the power up order? When I had the mount, I used Serial to USB with FTDI, and it connected to my laptop nicely. I think there was a FTDI driver. Is this a back up option to try, and still using ASIair (not a PC)? Any other option, ie LAN? Many thanks for your advice! Roger This is the control box:

I’m looking to buy a Celestron 9.25 edge for my multi purpose scope. Just getting back into the hobby, and my interest are visual observation of lunar, planetary and DSO. I am interested in possibly getting into imaging further down the road and want to make a wise investment in my mount choice. I don’t want to go any bigger scope wise, maybe a refractor or two. Looking at the second hand market right now and there’s some nice g811s out there that are within my price range. I know the g8 was designed for the C8 and the g11 for C11, which leaves the 9.25 in the middle. If a g11 came up in the price I was looking for, the choice would be easy, but will the g811 be enough for the 9.25 when it comes to both visual and imaging? I keep getting conflicting opinions about whether this will be a good combo or not, and of course I could alway put the g11 dec on later down the road. thanks for any advice

So, I've been doing more testing. I have N.I.N.A set to use telescope side of pier. I have Gemini set to Report the pier side I am imaging an object in the east (so the scope is Pier side west). However, In my N.I.N.A logs, I see "True Telescope SOP=pierEast" when the scope is clearly pier side West. Given I'm in the southern hemisphere, are there some settings I need to update in Gemini? I use a GPS receiver to get the coordinates (which Gemini connects to) so it definitely knows where in the world it is. -- Thanks and Best Regards Neil

I have been mostly using my month old G11G with NINA, but started trying the ASIAIR this week. Overall, going well and getting good subs. But there are quirks that I would fix if there is a way. 1. moving the mount. I find that I need to power cycle the mount with the app running before the app thinks it can move the mount. not a big deal, just have to remember the order. Starting the app with the mount already up and running hasn't worked for me so far. 2. GOTOs generally happen, but the behavior in the ASIAIR app's sky atlas isn't reliable. Sometimes it seems to wait for moves that the mount seems to have completed. I stop the slew and tap the goto button again and it figures it out. 3. guiding is pretty good, last night running well below 0.4" but occasionally when I first start up guiding DEC will run a bit wide back and forth. About 10 minutes or so. Recalibrating and starting over tends to clear that up. I am not manipulating any settings. I also fuss over the DEC worm. I am using machine tools to measure how much back off the worm gets and try to reliably tension the spring holding it down. Anyway, things like that. If anyone has any tips on using this mount with the AIR I would love to hear them. I do prefer to use NINA, PHD2 etc. most of the time but sometimes a simple setup is nice.

Just with in the last 3 weeks, I have issues with the G11 RA and Dec motors (I think). Even if the hand control is set to slew, both motors move the telescope very slow. The mount was powered with 110 v I use an Asiair to control the scope so initial I thought that might be where the problem was (Don't know why but I though I would check). Disconnecting the AIR did not solve the problem. The G11 was purchased 9 years ago and has worked perfectly up until now. I don't know where to start. Any suggestions ? Thanks

I picked up a G11G on Cloudy Nights from 2015 with HT motors (non-tucked-in), HD folding tripod, Gemini-2 level 5 and polar scope, no SLW, for $2100. The mount looks like new, it was well taken care of by the previous owner. I upgraded the Gemini-2 to level 6, got a PicKit3, flashed the motor controllers with v3.0 and checked the 4x checkboxes. I just tried it with Ekos, everything works beautifully. I'll try to get a first light tonight. The previous owner loved the mount, but he had moved to a place where he had no good space to set up a telescope, so it didn't get used. I picked it up from Arizona with a detour to visit an old friend, almost 23 hours of driving without air conditioning but well worth the drive. My current mount is a G11S from 2018 with OnStep. One reason for getting the new one is to compare a standard Losmandy with servo motors with OnStep that uses steppers. Comparing the price of Gemini II with motors with the $2100 that I paid, I think this is an excellent deal. I can always sell it easily should I want to. Another reason for getting it is to have a more "mobile" mount. I have an observatory that is a converted lean-to shed against a wall next to the kitchen area from where I can only see the Southern skies. I noticed that I could see most of the sky including Polaris from the patio in front of my kitchen window. Since I don't like to move the mount in my observatory to that spot and back all the time, it is nice to have another one. It is also handy for star parties. I got a Telegizmo cover to keep it set up outside for New-Moon weeks.

Could someone please tell me the center hole size for the MAL to MA Adapter? I wish to attach a ZWO AM5 to me HD tripod. thanks, Jim

At the risk of sounding like an idiot, I hate to ask a question that may have already been asked... I recently bought the G11 with Gemini 2 at Level 6. I promptly updated the firmware with the firmware update program. In the HC menu is a high-resolution tracking mode for RA and Dec. I have tried to find out specifically what that means. I cannot find it. Maybe I am stuck on the word "tracking". Is it high resolution for slewing from object to object or is it high resolution tracking for guiding during astrophotography? I've been out under the stars with the mount exactly twice and I did two nights of photographing the Cocoon Nebula. A total of 10 hours. First night I had it turned off. Second night I had it turned on. I couldn't tell a difference. Using the ASIair Plus, my guiding error was .25". If anyone can explain this high-resolution tracking to me, I would appreciate it. Hello everybody, I'm starting again astrophotography after 3 years of stop (kid was born - I needed to sleep) and I'm looking now for a new mount with adequate capacity. I was originally considering the iOptron CEM70, until I ended up in the Losmandy's page where I "found" the new G11. I have to confess, my heart has been stolen. But I still have to sort out a couple of questions before pulling the trigger. 1) Does anybody had the chance to use both mounts (CEM70 and G11) and can please provide a comparison to me? Specifically I'm looking into tracking performances. 2) Does the G11 have any sort of cable management feature? Like a through the mount cabling? In the Losmandy's page I see only few pictures and I can't tell too much from them. 3) Is the DEC axis equipped with at least 1x DC socket? Thank you in advance - Luca

Does anyone know where I can buy the updated reticle for the G-11 polar scope? My G-11 mount is 30 years old and works fine, but I've outlived the reticle, which has no alignment marks after 2010. - Ernie
