TS 140S IF-10A/B/C board installation.
Hi All, I'm seeking help on the installation of a Piexx.com interface board (IF-10A/B/C) into my old TS 140. A few months ago when I received the board I installed it as per the instructions and as it is nearly identical to the original Kenwood board it was easy to install. Problems happened when I tried to use it (initially with N1MM) and I really thought I'd blown the unit - wiped a memory chip or something. The display was scrambled and alarming beeps were heard. I shut it down and started to look at buying a new rig. I threatened it with being replaced by a new Yaesu!
Does anyone know if some set up procedure is required. There is a step in their instructions I don't understand about getting the Serial Interface to respond to command "if;" I'm out of my depth when it comes to finer points of programming. I expected N1MM to operate the interface. 73 de ZL3ART |
Re: TS-850S SSB extra filter question
Thanks Bob, This is a very recent to me 850s. I removed the bottom cover and all was revealed. The 2.7KHz filter is soldered in. Additionally there are two optional locations to install more filters. So as you say I will be able to have both filters for ssb use, thats great.? ?Could you or any others comment on the performance of the 1.8KHz filter. Is it really worth it?? Re: TS-850S SSB extra filter question
You can install the?1.8 in the 500 slot. That way you have the factory 2.7 and the aftermarket 1.8. I read this somewhere, can't remember where, Kenwood claims if both 2.7's are used (455 and 8.8) at the same time, the receive is "effectively" 2.4. That may have been in the user manual but not sure. I'll look around. If you install the 1.8 in the 500hz,8.8 slot, when you choose the 500 filter, you will be using the 1.8 in the 8.8 IF along with whatever you choose for the? 455 IF. Hope I explained that well enuff. TS-850S SSB extra filter question
Hi,
I have a TS-850s with? the standard ssb 2.7KHz 8MHz filter installed. If I were to install the narrow ssb 1.8KHz 8 MHz? filter can I leave the 2.7 KHz installed or must I switch it? If both are installed would the new filter selection be indicated by the 500Hz indicator for example? regards, Shane EA5JDD |
Re: have sick TS-470
THANKS Charlie, I sent a message to Clairmont -- tried to send via web site to burghardt but nothing worked on their web site so sent an email.? Have to see.? I know like impossible to know what might be wrong with writing words and to really have any idea about the repairs and cost.? I do like this unit and mad at my self for 'breaking it' -- but I still don't think what I did should have done it in. What I did -- had the unit connected to a Heathkit SB 200 amp.? coax from unit to amp and then dummy antenna.? It was not working (the Amp not going on)? and I had bought a 7 pin connector (ebay) because didn't have one - connector already made to provide RELAY and ALC.? Did this before? on another unit? and I had to resolder the cable - so thought bad cable and this was an easy /quick way to check.?? Best I can 'guess' is some sort of RF feed back ? and took out a chip or so ?? but I don't have a good technical ability with solid state - I do tubes..? So yep, like to get this unit working -- but alas - it is 1985 vintage and yes parts could be a problem... besides I think not easy to repair - quite compact. OK... THANKS AGAIN? for your email and input.. 73 Larry F W6EF Fair Oaks, CA? (sub of Sacramento) (916) 966-0266

You have a nice line up of radios there Donald. I always think of Icom as the cream of commercially made rigs. (Not counting K3's or Tentec). You are lucky to have a club house our regular meet once a month folded because of Covid. It wasn't a club house as such just a meeting room. We have started weekly field days at a local beauty spot which has a cafe on site so at least we can put out a few calls then go for a Coffee and a slice of cake! In the south of UK at the moment the WX is damp and quite warm for the time of year Overcast/ rainy and 10deg Centigrade. I hope you have escaped the very bad WX we are seeing on the TV every day. Keep warm, 73 Richard G0ILN. On 01 January 2023 at 16:42 Donald Hellen <donhellen@...> wrote: |

My everyday radio shifts between my Icom 7300 and my newly acquired 705. (My 7100 is for mobile use.) I like working QRP with the 705, and will be doing that this afternoon at the clubhouse, where there's no noticeable RF noise. Many thanks for the prompt reply to my Question. It was good of you to go to the trouble of finding the page in the instruction manual. I looked at the specification sheet but could find any reference to CW speed. I use a stand alone keyer at the moment and it works well(Home brew). looking at the Instruction manual page 42. It looks as though once you have set up the speed via the menu you can leave it displayed on the screen (and adjust WPM )and still be able to see what frequency you are on. My everyday radio is a Yaesu Ft857 and you have a choice between key speed or frequency display you can't have both. So it looks as though the TS590 would work OK for me. Thanks again for your time; much appreciated. Best wishes for the New Year 73 and Good DX. Richard G0ILN Fists 398. On 31 December 2022 at 18:16 Donald Hellen <donhellen@...> wrote: |

The above is from the manual, and it seems to be saying that you have to use a menu to adjust speed. You could use an external keyer, or perhaps use a faster speed but allow more spacing between characters and words than would be used for the faster speed. I send code that way myself. If you have to vary your speed quite a bit, this wouldn't work for you. But if it only varies a few WPM, then it might work well. TH-D7 not charging
DaveH52
My TH-D7 seems to have become unable to charge either one of its battery packs through the power port on the radio. I have the original NiCd pack and an aftermarket NiMH battery pack. With the batteries being low, it goes into a reboot loop, but not when the charger is plugged in. It seems to work just fine from a real 13.8V power supply. Has anyone else seen this issue, and if so what's the fix; A shot of DeOxit, A new unobtanium power jack? |

They simply plug in, so no difficult surgery is needed. $35 plus shipping for the set of three. . Linear Amp Switching Cables for Kenwood Rigs: This cable goes from a Kenwood transceiver to a linear amplifier to switch the amp from transmit to receive. Cable with ALC control, in addition to T/R switching. $20 . I have parts for a Kenwood TS-440 available. Hopefully we can keep a couple units working and looking nice using these parts. The rear part of the bottom cover is presently available. It looks very nice, and might improve the looks of your rig. The small little silver rectangular buttons are still available. The "IF" internal PC board is available as well. Most small PC boards, such as selectivity switch, mic jack, front panel push buttons, etc. are available. A few knobs are available. The automatic antenna tuner is NOT available. Please let me know what you need. . I also have many other accessories available such as many different types of microphones, HTs, VHF and UHF rigs, HF and VHF/UHF antennas, connectors, miscellaneous accessories, etc. Just too many to list here. TS-450S/850S components..?
?
Hi group...
?
Does anyone know if there is a
replacement/substitute for the RLS135 and similar diodes used in these
rigs...?
?
Maybe something which can be used in a pinch for
testing...?
?
I can't get much signal through the .5 to 1.6Mhz
receive BP filter in my 450S even with the attenuator?bypassed and the
proper +7V bias applied to the circuit. All other bands are fine with no unusual
attenuation.?
?
Ideas...?

New here, a question about a TS-950SDX?
GeoVE3GZB
Hello from Canada
I have a TS-950SDX which has developed an intermittent problem lately. I'm listening to the band in question (it could be any band) when quite randomly the speaker suddenly goes dead silent and at the same time the VU meter goes to full maximum. The radio doesn't seem to be putting any power out when this fault occurs. Then the fault clears itself up without me doing anything. Does anyone recognize this symptom and have any suggestions on what could be the matter? Thanks and 73s, geo VE3GZB |
