Re: How do I connect the Baofeng APRS-K1 to a Raspberry Pi?
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýThank you! That¡¯s exactly what I was looking for. That¡¯s a hard cable to find. ? $10 is a little steep. I wonder if this would be a good $2 alternative: ? ? John ? -- John ? From: km4ack

How do I connect the Baofeng APRS-K1 to a Raspberry Pi?
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýHow do I connect the Baofeng APRS-K1 to a Raspberry Pi? Is there a USB sound card for the Rasperry Pi that will take the TRRS of the APRS-K1? ? -- John ? |
ARDOP Modulation
Good evening, set up my Pi 4B+ per KM4ACK fantastic and clear instructions and working great with one exception: using Pat with ARDOP over HF.
I have the Kenwood TS-590SG which has an onboard sound card as well as CAT control both using a single USB. Works great on the Pi with JS8Call. However something just isn't right when i go over to ARDOP. The rig changes mode/frequency and keys up perfectly but there seems to be no modulation going out. When doing the initial calling to make a connection, I watch the wattmeter and it never moves. Rig is set to 25 watts so it should move about 1/4 across the dial. I'm sure it's some silly little configuration I've missed so if maybe somebody can point me in the right direction I would be forever grateful! Thanks! |

Connecting with Linux Every Linux variant is a bit different about how pairing is handled. This seems to happen fairly seemlessly. However, connecting the TNC3 is a bit different than most RFCOMM devices. The TNC3 does not use the default RFCOMM channel for SPP (channel 1). The TNC3 uses channel 6. To create an RFCOMM port on Linux, you will need to bind to channel 6. # rfcomm bind 0 <MAC ADDRESS> 6 This will create the TTY port /dev/rfcomm0, which can be used like a normal serial port. As mentioned. I have paired the TNC3 to the Raspberry PI 4. Not sure where to go from here. 73 Don va7dgp On Thu, May 28, 2020 at 12:29 AM Don Poaps via <va7dgp=[email protected]> wrote:

Re: /dev/ttyUSB
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýWell, I¡¯ve got the PTT working. Thank you Jason. Now the audio out is perplexing me. The radio keys up and OCCASIONALLY transmits audio. Plugging a standard 3.5mm headphone plug into the sound card confirms that output is constant. That leads me to the problem existing between card and radio waves. (PEBCAR)Thinking the cable might be faulty, I dissected the din plug and read for continuity between the plug and the pins on the inside as well as radio side of the plug. The cable checks 4.0. Worried that I was about to take a soldering iron to the inside of my 817, I moved everything over to my 857...just to make sure I wasn¡¯t insane. The 857 exhibits the same behavior. Yes, I tried digital, pkt as well as straight FM on both transceivers. I even used a second audio 6 pin mini din to verify the cables were Physically identical as well as functionally identical.? It ALMOST feels like a VOX delay issue. Similar to what happens to VOX circuits when sound is transmitted to trigger the PTT and you lose some of the message. I welcome any insight on this.? Mobilink TNC Pi 4
I found this on the Github.com/km4ack. I'm wanting to get this going once PI-build? 3V build is loaded on my PI 4.? I'll look for another video on line but this maybe faster. I have paired my Mobilink to the PI 4. It's getting info on creating Mobilink-Connect to run. I tried git clone master etc but that didn't work. I'm looking for the proper syntax bash install mobilink-connect if thats?the right command. looking 73 Don Poaps

Connecting Android tablet to Pi Model B
While I have successfully connected my tablet to the? Pi via RaspController for Command Line using SSH, and RealVNC for GUI, this has been through? my home network using a wireless dongle on the Pi.
I need to connect my Pi with ( Android tablet independent of outside networks; all I want to do at this point is use my tablet as a dumb terminal for the command line. I've tried to make the Pi broadcast it's own wifi network using the dongle, to no avail. I also tried to find an app using bluetooth or USB cable as an alternative, again with no luck. I inherited? this old Pi, a and don't have any experience? with it...any pointers/advice appreciated.? |
Re: RPi and Yaesu FT 818
Tim,
Does the Sabrent and Wophilink combination cause problems?? I believe it was your setup that was featured on a Portable Showcase that got me thinking about this setup. I thought you used yours with an Elecraft radio. I have used the Wolphilink with my laptop computer for JS8Call and it seemed to work well. My computer has a combined headphone/mic jack so I just used a double-ended 4-pin, 3.5mm jack as well as the CAT cable to control PTT. I was trying to use the Raspberry Pi for a smaller portable package. I have not used a Wolphilink with a phone or tablet because I am not as interested in PSK or RTTY. If you know of any phone or tablet apps that could do JS8 or Winlink, that might simplify my set up even further! 73, Jim KI7URL |
Re: RPi and Yaesu FT 818
I have the exact same setup you show in the picture.? The one thing that gave me fits was finding the right soundcard settings in js8.? I found that SYSDEFAULT:CARD=DEVICE is the one that worked for me.? Have you used the wolphi and the 817 together with any other digi modes??

Re: /dev/ttyUSB
Hey Jason,
Sorry you ran into rig control issues but glad you found the fix. With build-a-pi, all of this is handled on the back end for you. There's really no reason to go into teh pat configure file except on rare occasion. Take a look at the Pat Menu config. Depending on which version you are running, hopefully v2, most all of it can be set there. I use and recommend FLRIG as my primary rig control app. Then I feed other applications into FLRIG. Even though this shows the 891, you will find a ton of info that will apply to the 857 as well. While I am thinking of it, please send me a private message through patreon and reference this post. On to your direwolf issue. Provided you follow my advice above, you will need to add this line to direwolf PTT section. PTT RIG 2 localhost:4532 and if I remember correctly, I covered it in this video. I think it is about 3/4 of the way through. -- 73, de KM4ACK

/dev/ttyUSB
Hello all. New here as well as Patreon as of yesterday. I would like to present some feedback as well as present a problem that I would appreciate some assistance with, if anyone has figured it out.
First, the feedback. Jason (KM4ACK), I followed both of your build-a-Pi tutorials and I have to say, you¡¯re on to something magical and quite possibly world changing for the Hams out there that are hesitant to make the plunge to the Pi because it¡¯s Linux. With that being said, PAT. Oh my god PAT. I spent several hours digging through your historical video tutorials to find an obscure little ¡°my precious rig¡± line of text to enter into PAT CONFIGURE to get over the rig control hurdle of PAT. I found it in the 3 part series of installing and configuring PAT. So it¡¯s documented. I just isn¡¯t an easy to locate referred necessity for, I¡¯m certain, 3/4 of the people following along. But I found it and it¡¯s documented and the first part of my 2 item conundrum is fixed. Thank you and the suggestion I have is this. Upon release of version 3, I think you should mention that you have a library of individual program installation and configuration tutorials should a certain piece of software not work for your specific setup. If you mentioned something like that, and I missed it, I apologize and move on to my second item. My problem. Direwolf will NOT do PTT in packet. I have tried the generic /dev/ttyUSB0 line in Direwolf.conf. I¡¯ve tried using the EXACTL name using when configuring FLRig, and I have even gone as far as creating (and subsequently deleting) a symlink for my exact CAT cable. My setup is almost exactly like Jason¡¯s. Yaesu FT-817 or FT-857D (I have both), Raspberry Pi 4b, the audio cable from hamdaptor as well as a Sabrent sound card, and rig control achieved through an FTDI CAT cable for my radios. Everything else works fine. Frequency adjustment, band changes in ARDOP...(js8 loves to crash on me but that¡¯s a mystery for another day) I just can NOT get direwolf to key my radios when using packet. I¡¯m running out of hair folks. Please send help. again, I love this project and will be playing with version 3 today. 73 Jason KG7RQK |
Re: Makerfire Dockerpi
Doesn't appear to be a way to monitor voltage in with the pi so I just ordered these for the lipo balance ports. They even have a low cell alarm:
