Pictures ECO 6 Rod
Hi Rod
Nice to see your Zephyr's Delight floating. She looks great. A pity with the mainsail. I know you have many other interesting things on your to-do list So have fun. Cheers Bernd |

Re: Duo 900 Italy

Wonderful news, Dominico. Will you fabricate a carbon fibre mast for your ECO 6? I will be watching very carefully.

Re: ECO 520 anyone building?
Hi
I changed the rig of the ECO 520. To make handling more easy, omit the small jib. Then coming about is a lot easier. You do not need a traveler for the jib, but an out haul when not sailing on the wind. The plywood tangon can be omitted too. An Aluminum tangon is all what is needed.? For very light weather, a genacker can be set flying. Cheers Bernd |

Re: Manta - Galacticat (Formerly Lucia) sails again :)
Thank you for your letter. Mmm, more as a letter.?
Somebody had sent me some photos of how the boat looked after the hurricane. But they disappeared in the jungle of my computer files.
I remember only it was some work to do to refit the boat.
As we were in New Brunswick and Saint Jean some years ago. Sailing where you are is demanding. I was impressed with the difference between ebb and flood, which is one of the highest in the world. The resulting currencies are enormous.?
I know that the Manta is very seaworthy. For whom the boat was built sailed in any weather. For example, sailing to the boat show in Ears Cord in London from the Netherlands in January. Wind force 10. So what, a bit bumpy, but we made it in good time. I stop here.?
This boat can have any weather. Have fun. And thank you again.??
We were discussing short the possibility for the new engine. The old engine room has enough space for anything practical. The boat would then be in trim again.
?
Cheers
?

Re: Manta - Galacticat (Formerly Lucia) sails again :)
Thank you for sharing your story and the photos of Galacticat (Lucia). It is an inspiring story - very helpful for us builders when we go through a slump in our enthusiasm. :-) And of course, as a fellow Canadian, I am happy to see you are based in New Brunswick. If I ever make it to the Maritimes, be warned - I will be looking you up and hoping for a sail! Cheers, Rod

Re: ECO 520 anyone building?
@Bernd, thanks for the reply regarding the differences between rigs. Sounds logical!
When looking at the ECO520 image with the mast-aft setup, I see two jib sails in parallel and I am trying to understand how this works in practice when tacking or gybing. The larger front sail has to move around the smaller sail when the wind comes from the other side. Does it need to be furled in when tacking? Anyone know this? |

Re: ECO 520 anyone building?
The mast-aft setup is one of the big reasons why I chose the ECO 520. I'd also like more details though on exactly how it works. The images in the plans show two travelers at the very rear called jib 1 and 2 traveler. This is different from how I understand other boats with a similar design operate. I can understand a single traveler just in front of the mast for the smaller jib to attach to so that it can easily switch sides. While the front jib is usually released from a fixed point on one side and hauled in to a fixed point on the other side. How do the two travelers at the rear work?
I found one good book that describes with many pictures a mast-aft rig. The book is called "A 30', $6000 Cruising Catamaran" by Roy Chandler and published in 1987. The book describes a catamaran with an aft-mast with a smaller stay sail and a jib sail. Does anybody know of any other book that describes a similar rig setup? |

Re: ECO 520 anyone building?
With the 520 you can have the option of the bi plane rig if you prefer. After building and owning the Duo 480 the bi plane rig would be my first choice.
cheers Bryan ps the Eco 6 is a great boat. I was lucky enough to have a sail on David's boat and I cant praise it enough. Rod is going to love his boat when he gets sailing. Of course it is a bigger and heavier boat than the 520 which may be a factor if regular trailer travel is anticipated |

Re: ECO 520 anyone building?
There is no difference sailing a jib rig to any other rig. Only, in this case the handling is easier (furling to shorten sail etc).?
Of course, you can not sail to windward with the jib in your dingy. The center of effort is with a jib only too far forward. The jib rig has the CE and CP of the hulls at the correct position to sail to windward. Don't worry. Cheers Bernd |

Re: ECO 520 anyone building?
It is wonderful to hear someone else who will build an ECO 6. It is a great design and I am sure you will be happy with your decision to build one. Mine is nearing completion and I expect to launch it in time to get in some sailing before the Canadian winter confines us to armchair sailing. Cheers

Re: ECO 520 anyone building?
I'm interested in the ECO520 as well. But I'm wondering what the (dis)advantages will be with the double jib rig. The eco520 page does not go into details about this rig.
How will it compare to a 'regular' rig? When using just the jib on my 4 meter dinghy I cannot go upwind. Is this to be expected here as well? regards, Mauro |

Hi Paul
Nice to hear that you want the ECO 6 plans.? No problems about slow post. I send plans direct? as attchments to an email. Normally, you order and between 36 hours you have your plans.? I understand what you mean, start to built today and have here ready yesterday. lol Cheers Bernd |

Re: ECO 520 anyone building?
Thank you Sir for your expert input. I will build the ECO 6. Will order the plans in October. What is the best way for me to receive the build plans in Philippines. It takes 2 months to get a letter from usa through postal service because I live on Mindanao Island, does the plans come with actual size for laying on plywood or only the measurements. Excited to get started, but more excited to be finished.lol On Sun, 27 Aug 2023, 11:21 pm Bernd Kohler, <ikarus342000@...> wrote: Use the ECO 6. Beam as stated |

Thank you for your through, David.
The ceramic tiles of the Space shuttle are glued to the hull with a special epoxy. The temperature when entering the earth atmosphere was? ??or 2900 degrees C. Have you made some interesting sailing tours this year with your ECO, or have you sold her? Cheers Bernd |
