Re: 5 photos uploaded #photo-notice

Hi Zee
Thanks for these detailed photos.?
It is a question of how we look at it. This is here a group of builders
of boats. Many are new to boat building. Such detailed photos can help someone to understand what has to be done.
Getting an idea of how to adapt it to his?own project.?
So, thank you very much to send us such photos.

By these, to other builders. Please, share your experience in words and pictures.?

Bernd

Re: 5 photos uploaded #photo-notice

Some more.?
I made a mistake. What you need are fences and not anti cavitations panels.?
Fences are typical devices to "straighten" and separate the airflow over wings.
Here are an excerpt from a lecture I had given some years ago concerning different
aero, hydrodynamic phenomenon. On transom hung rudders, depending on how the leading edge
is placed in the water. From a given speed, air is sucked in on the leading edge. The air destroys a proper water flow and in this way the efficiency of the rudder.
This can be prevented by placing the rudder in a way that the leading edge has an angle of about 4 degree forward. Plus, fences will prevent that air is sucked.
This can be also used on an outboard engine shaft. The prop will be then work more efficient.?
To download the article go to???
Such a fence can be easily made from a piece of 2 mm Al.?

Re: 5 photos uploaded #photo-notice

Thanks, it has been fun. I have great trips planned going forward.
I do have a You Tube channel "Phil Boyer" (not the singer Phil Boyer) where I have my build videos called Building my solar catamaran.
I also have my first solar electric boat with trips on the channel.

Re: 5 photos uploaded #photo-notice

I will keep everyone updated.
I have received information back via Small Boat Magazine in regards to what Ron Mueller did to help performance in regards to turbulence between hulls and will build something similar.
I have now moved the main battery bank forward to in front of the bulkhead 3 and am working on the house battery relocation.
Hope to be out for a 2nd test run on Sunday.

Re: 5 photos uploaded #photo-notice

Hi Phil

?

This was the first I was thinking. The boat heels to far aft. Good, you corrected it already.

Yes, the trust line as shown is not correct. If you are ad the end of the motor mount's possibility to correct. Use hard wood wedges to correct. Correct to an angle of about 4 degrees.

The shafts of the Torqeedo are not hydrodynamic optimized. I miss also anti cavitation panels which normally outboard engines are provided with. Both this facts are the cause of the turbulence.

Skegs would help for a straight steering line, as you mention. The boat has a big projected side line. I propose, make plywood skegs. About 500 mm long, not deeper as the lowest part of the hull in a triangle shape.

Keep us informed about your progress, and yes-- have fun--

?

Bernd

Re: 5 photos uploaded #photo-notice

Hi Bernd, it is great to have finally launched the boat. I still have some things to do on it but I needed to at least test it. I am initially using my Torqeedo Cruise 2.0 motor which is a 5 HP equivalent as I cannot cross the border to the US yet to buy an Elco.
My goal is to fine tune the performance using the Torqeedo for this summer.
Some issues that I have encountered are:
1) The boat is healing in the aft. I am now moving the two battery banks (total of 170 lbs) forward from the back to in front of bulk head 3.
2) The torqeedo motor is not trimmed correctly. Due to the straight up and down transom angle my Torqeedo is thrusting in a downwards angle (see the side view picture) which I think is also pushing the stern down. I am addressing the mount position for better trim.
3) Turbulence around the motor shaft causing drag. Since there is no hull in front of the motor I need to come up with some sort of skeg type structure to go in front of the motor shaft. Any suggestions?
4) The steering is very sensitive and over steering is occurring.? This may be due to the above issues but also on Ron Muellers Ecco he added side skegs to the trim tabs. This should help with the steering. Any thoughts?

Thanks
Phil

Re: COVID-19

Hi G¨¹nter,

For me the building of the boat has also more priority also, for that reason I bought the standard props and will use the data from these for a more efficient prop.

Hi Bernd
Do you mean hull tube covers?
However it will look like this photo.

Hi Domenico

Thanks for the photos. Have also made the forward cabin covers??
Nice progress, as known from you.

Re: Duo 900 Italy

Hi Bernd
I have added more photos on the construction of the Duo 900
I am preparing the 180 degree curved seats for the tubes and then closing everything with carbon fiber and glass. Immediately after we paint the two hulls.

Bernd - any chance of a bigger nacelle with central standing room on the Duo 105. That was our biggest holdup on buying that design?

?Hi Zee
I like the small change you have made to the hulls.?
To the Geodetic nacelle.
Interesting conversation. I gather, Domenico, the customer was falling over the nacelle.
Funny, that customers interested in multihulls fall over new concepts.
Like the Geodetic nacelle, as applied to the DUO 800 S. It was the logical
solution for a relatively big nacelle. This nacelle is lighter and gives
more space than any other solution would give. Besides that, the nacelle is easy to build.
