Re: COVID-19
Hi Lukas,
your offer is very tempting but I'm located in Berlin. In spite of this it would be nice if I may contact you by email or phone to talk about 3D print? (info_at_heimfried.de). My main focus at the moment is directed at my boat build, so props are a bit sidelined. But sometimes I work to improve the tool. Gru?, G¨¹nter |

Hi Zee My boat seems simple and very possible in comparison to the big one.? Cheers |
Re: COVID-19
Hi G¨¹nter,
I dont know where you are located at, but from your name and text it seems like german speaking area. I am currently not able to test a prop, but if you are in the vicinity of Vlbg. or Stuttgart I could print and help design you a few? props for testing as I do own a 3d printer which can print up to 370mm in diameter and about 400mm in height and do know my way around 3d design.? Gr¨¹?e, Lukas |
Re: Jib track placement.
Hi Vlat
It is difficult to give good advice in this way. You changed the boat, and I have no clue what you did with the rig. As a hint. The foot of the jib must be short enough, so that you can have a rail from port to starboard.?? Watch for a correct? angle of the jib sheet. Bernd |

Hi Zee
I like the small change you have made to the hulls.? To the Geodetic nacelle. Interesting conversation. I gather, Domenico, the customer was falling over the nacelle.
Funny, that customers interested in multihulls fall over new concepts.
Like the Geodetic nacelle, as applied to the DUO 800 S. It was the logical
solution for a relatively big nacelle. This nacelle is lighter and gives
more space than any other solution would give. Besides that, the nacelle is easy to build. Bernd |

Hi Zee
Congratulations on a great job.
I'm also curious about how you build the central cabin.
We had bought from Bernd and two projects Duo 800 and 900 but then the customer decided for the DUO 900 which has the central mast.
Excellent choice of water tanks location.
Bye |
Re: COVID-19
Hi St¨¦phane, hi Jack,
it is not about to find someone who is ready to print it, but someone who is interested in printing, testing and developing a suitable prop in a kind of cowork. I don't have a appropriate file at the moment. I did only calculate some examples for props, to be shure that the tool works. As I'm building currently a boat also the prop is a little bit a site track. But I would like to evaluate this if possible. For above mentioned reasons I do think a prop for our ECO's should be good at about 300 mm diameter. Gru?, G¨¹nter |
Re: Jib track placement.
Thanks Bernd.
What about using a smaller sized jib in stronger winds , do I need to shift a track forward a bit to be able to sheet it properly? On another hand? I am thinking about? ?about loosing the track completely and use the twing, does anybody have experience with it? Vlad. |

Hi St¨¦phane,
the offer was not especially directed to you but to anyone in this forum who may be interested in printed propellers and trials about it. I addressed you because your remark "Many have around the globe?
So for you will be easy to find locally one have 3d print"
to make clear it is not about the printer but the prop evaluation. Gru?, G¨¹nter ? |
Re: COVID-19
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýHo!!
That is a nice feature to have?
And like some have says
With 3d print?
You can use it as a template to cast in and with aluminium ou brass
Very easily?
I am to busy now to start project like that but sound very nice to my ear !!!
But have to much project right now?
I am collecting parts for build kd1000 for September?
And look at electric? propulsion too

Hi St¨¦phane,
(I did answer to your post a few days ago, but the answer did not appear., So a second try.) To me the point is not to find anyone with a 3D printer, but someone who is really interested in an improvement of their props. He/she will tell my the parameters of the prop they whish an will get the stl-file for free. As the calculation is a matter of minutes this can be repeated a lot of times. "... brittle plastic" - Some people did cover their self printed props with glass or carbon fabric and are quite happy with it, as is seems. |

Hi Zee
Yes, you can be proud of this beautiful, big cat. You were also living for some years on this boat. Strange, we sailors have more or less the same cycle. Going from small in our youth, to bigger and bigger, till we realize smaller would be enough. Building speed, the same. I am also a lot slower as some years ago. In your country and NZ the whole covid 19 situation was handle in a more consequent way. Here in Europe, so many interests play a role and our "leaders" are only interested to get elected again. In the USA, the situation is also only suboptimal. Because through the mistakes of their egomaniacal president as the pandemic started. Back to the DUO 800. It is good that you have experience working with artificial material and vacuum technique. This will help you to build the carbon masts.? Keep us informed, please Success Bernd ? |

Hi Scooter , I am glad you like my progress so far ,and I hope that you will start building yours soon , so I am not alone in the whole world building that , haha . As for for the farm house , i think if it lasted for 133 years , what's a few more to wait until you build the boat? ?cheers Zee On Wed, Jun 30, 2021 at 2:34 AM <sikotism@...> wrote:

thanks Bernd . This is my third catamaran (and smallest ) that I am building , among many dinghies?and kayaks?in the past . First big boat I built was based on Bob Orams design,? 53 foot performance cruising cat built in Duflex ,?I had?plans for the?hulls only , but designed?the rest of the?boat myself under?Bob's supervision .I sold it after?6 years of cruising and living aboard . That cat is now regularly winning races? in Sydney and is renamed Wild Goose , for a good reason , very fast boat (wild goose chase) . New owner is no regrets , a reckless?sailor and he capsized the boat in the race at 35 knots of wind while?having full sails ,?no reef . nothing?broke on the boat ,?zero damage . The boat was back racing next weekend !? ?. My second cat was James Wharam Tiki 30 , I built that boat especially?nice and well , but had to sell it as soon as it was finished , reluctantly , due to circumstances . So after owning many different? boats besides ones I built , I came to conclusion?that the ideal?boat is generally?small and simple , basic . just needs to be big enough for intended use . I really like the size of the DUO 800 . its like a big cat but?in small package . I am very excited about building?those carbon? masts . i have all the materials for it , but need to finish the rest of the boat first , then assemble it? out in the yard so I can free the building space for the masts . My progress is a bit slow these days , nothing like I was years ago , due to comforths of having my own house , getting older and related issues . but I work? couple of hours every day , weather permitting . So far we were COVID lucky here in QLD , nothing ever happened , no masks , no lock downs . I feel sorry for rest of the world ,how badly everything is disrupted?in so many places . so , cheers now , i send you some pics of my pride and joy " Colors" and two??kayks?I built? ? and here comes some crazy capsize pics , ha ha? ??
