I remember the illustration in ¡°The Complete Backpacker¡± (I think) of Colin Fletcher reclining back against his pack which was in turn propped up by his walking staff. A dedicated chair would have put his pack over the 60# mark.?

?also forgot to say that I use my chair to sit inside my tent and hide out from the mosquitos when necessary! I have a fake hip so sitting in the tent isn¡¯t really comfy for long without a chair for me

I love my Helinox Chair Zero- worth the 1 lb 2 oz (less if you don¡¯t take the bag) to me, not to everyone I¡¯m sure. Although I remember one horribly rainy day when I was sitting inside my tent (I¡¯m short) watching movies on my IPhone my neighbour campers said they were finally sold and then there was the lady at the top of Bear Ridge that said ¡°she hated me just a little bit¡± at the moment she topped out and saw me sitting comfy in my chair in the shade of a tree looking out over the view while having a snack. My other favourite use is that I can sit in a shallow part of a lake/slow flow river and soak my feet.

I did do one trip without it last year and decided I did miss it as it also encourages me to make more stops to chill out and take in the views. ?Anyway, it¡¯s one of my body/back savers.

Re: Lightweight Low back support ideas while backpacking

I've got a Helinox chair zero, 17 oz.? It's worth every ounce as far as I'm concerned.? I carried it the whole JMT and many subsequent hikes.? It is a bit of a luxury, but it sure feels nice to sit at the end of the day or have a comfortable place to enjoy your meals.

I haven't looked at the REI version in detail, but it appears to be very similar and a bit cheaper.

As an aside, I saw a PCTer carrying a full sized, old fashioned aluminum and nylon strap folding lawn chair one time;)

Hi,

I have a permit from Tuolumne Meadows over Donoghue Pass which I originally planned to exit in Onion Valley. I won't be able to do the entire trip now, and am hoping to split it over a few trips. Is it possible on this permit to change the plan to do an out and back loop, e.g. Tuolumne Meadows to Ansel Adams and back to Yosemite Valley.
