Jim, Im just talking out loud re riveted connections.MY guess is that Cu-Cu ?would work fairly well. But in general, what material are being riveted? And how??? Loking at this switch, it appears that the visible terminal connects to the rivet, and the rivet conducts thru the insulation to something inside; so the rivet has two pressure connection places. If the inner contact is bad, soldering the outside probably wont work. Maybe I¡¯ll have to open some old parts boxes.

?

I have never read about how a rivet maintains pressure, or how much is needed to ensure a good contact.. a black art? ?

?

Those are the rivets, previously mentioned, that connect the external solder lugs to the internal switch contacts.? Notice the tarnish on the rivets, they are not as bright as the finish on the solder lugs.? Once the interface resistance between the rivet and the lug reaches a?sufficiently high value, the switch is permanently open.? A little wire brushing, bit of solder paste and a touch of solder will restore a low resistance contact.
