Thanks to all for the leads. Bill all I really need is the metal insert for the large tuning knob. The rig is an HT-30, but I know the SX-100 uses the same size (1.367 inch) because that is my receiver. I think the HT-3# series of transmitters all use the same size as well. I would buy the whole knob if I need to, however.

Locked HT-3# series transmitter question

Ed Hatcher

I've only been involved with Hallicrafters equipment a year or so,
so I have a lot to learn. From what I have read, all the HT-3#
series transmitters (excluding linear amps) use the same finals and
drivers. My HT-30 is 30watts output and I have read the others range
from 85 to about 135 watts out. Why is there such a difference in
outputs, is it the power supplies or what?

Locked Re: HT-3# series transmitter question

开云体育

All the HT-3# series transmitters use 6146 tubes as their finals or power amplifiers.? Theoretically, utilizing the same driver

tube and the same power amplifier tubes, they should all put out the same wattage.? However, this would be dependent on

lots of different factors.

?

1)?????? Driving power

2)?????? 6146 tube condition

3)?????? Line voltage

4)?????? DC voltages

5)?????? Component failures or values

6)?????? Alignment

7)?????? Transmit frequency

8)?????? Transmitter design

?

etc, etc.

?

Manufacturers like Collins, Drake, Kenwood, Hammarlund, Swan, all used the same basic tube lineup in their radios and they all

put out the same basic ~ 100 watts.? No one thing could be assigned to the differences in output power.? However, with a pair

of 6146 tubes as a final power amplifier with good driving power, ~ 100 watts should be obtainable - regardless of the rig.

Locked Tube Tester

I have an old B&K tube Dyna Quik tester Model 550. It tests all the
tubes that I normally use or need and has been reliable.

My question is this. The B&K tester I have is a "Dynamic Mutual
Conductance" tester and some of the (new) tubes I test, do not seem
to measure up using the RED/YELLOW/GREEN scales.

I have always gone by the "go/no go" method using the
RED/YELLOW/GREEN scales and never paid any attention to
the "Micromhos" scale. I recently referred to my old RCA Receiving
tube manual and noticed that each tube in the book has
a "Transconductance" value in micromhos.

I am now debating with myself if I should ignore the colors and
actually start to pay attention to the micromhos scale on the tester.

If this is so, could I use my old RCA receiving tube manual which
gives the Micromhos number for the tubes and compare this published
number with the one on the tube tester meter scale even if it is not
in the green? Is Transconductance the same as Mutual Conductance?
Thanks for any help with this.

Locked Interesting and New Materials Offered Soon.

I will soon be offering complete PDF images (scanned single sheets)
of old Hallicrafters publications. These publications include sales
brochures and technical manuals. I have been collecting this
information for some time now, and have decided to scan the
books/pamphlets page by page and combine them into PDF files which
will be available for download in the "Files" section.

Completion date? Its never complete!

Locked Tube testers

Hi Bill,
I use a Hickok 6000A dynamic mutual conductance tube tester and mostly rely on the tranconductance value the tester reads out. The 6000A manual gives the Gm values which in most cases agrees with the RCA manual. The 6000A does have a Red/Green on the scale but I use the Gm value and replace a tube when the Gm is below about 60% of the book value.

Locked S-5 Promotional Brouchure

I have just placed a PDF file in the "Files" section. It is an
original and very rare and fragile promotional brouchure touting the
technology of the New Super Skyrider S-5 receiver. I put the
original in a safe place after the scan.

Due to the fragility of the original, my novice attempt at scanning
(first time), and the odd size of the brochure, it may not be as good
a scan as you may like. But, it is a piece of Hallicrafters history
and may be the only one in existence since the S-5 was manufactured
in 1934. It is interesting reading.

Sorry for page (3) which is upside down and I couldn't get it right
side up. I will do better next time. Enjoy the publication.

Locked Pictures on Main Page

Gentlemen,

I have literally hundreds of high quality images that I can showcase
on the front page of this site. However, I don't want to be hogging
all the glory here. If any of you have nice clear high quality
images of your station or your own equipment, send it to me at:

K2WH@... along with some text describing what is in the
image and I will put it up for a 1 week period.

Please don't send images copied off the web. Lets make it a picture
of your own.

Thanks,

Gentlemen,

?

Some of you may know that I have been actively collecting images of the labels, tags or nameplates found on Hallicrafters equipment.? I estimate, in another 10 years, these labels especially the paper ones, will be gone forever.? I have images of Tube Layouts, Manufacturer Model Identification labels, Serial # tags, etc.

?

I have a large library of this stuff and it is available in JPG format to anyone who needs a specific labels or tag for a restoration project.? I also collected these seemingly innocuous pieces of history just for histories sake for eventual placement on CD for distribution.?

?

Most of the images are not art ready.? That is, they cannot be printed directly to a printer for transfer to your restoration project without editing or manipulation.? What I have done in the past with some restoration projects, was to print the picture of the label and in a graphics program, make a new label or a reasonable facsimile from the hard copy or if the image is close to perfection (a lot of them are), size it and print it for direct application to the project radio.

?

To make a long story short, if any of you have a radio or other Hallicrafters product with labels still intact, could you please take a digital image of them in high resolution mode and email same to me for inclusion into the archive of labels.? I have attached (2) images for your curiosity to show you what I am saving or looking for.

?

Thanks,

K2WH

Locked Re: s-120a info

I may have mislead you here. The S-120 and S-120A are two different
animals. My first thought, the "A" meant they were very similar.
Very wrong. The S-120 is a tube receiver and the 120A is all solid
state so, they are not similar at all. The S-120 is a 4 tube
receiver and the S-120A is a 9 transistor receiver.

I would ask the Radio Reprint guy if he has the manuals for the S-
120A. Good luck with your search, I'm sure you will find one.
