Re: collections in the USA to do with HP
It's not related to HP, but LSSM does have quite a bit of HP computer equipment on exhibit, some of which is up and running. 2116A and B systems, several HP21MX (HP1000) systems, an HP3000, several

Re: 8566B attenuator fix
I know, I can always try, it's more of a question of does it worth my time, or am I just going to get angry? :D To be honest I didn't double check the coil still drawing current, but it seemed

Re: strange issue on Agilent 54641D MSO
Given the weight of lead in a car battery... about 30 to 50lbs, and the weight of the lead in the tiny amount of solder in a 1970's TV, you would to have a forest of TV's dumped in a landfill before

Re: 8566B attenuator fix
You need to get the cover off the attenuator and inspect the coils. I strongly suspect some damage. I would NOT operate the attenuator for any extended period as this is likely to damage it. After

Re: 8566B attenuator fix
Always worth taking it apart and attempting the repair on your own. Many people (myself included) have had good luck repairing these even outside of o-ring issues (for instance I¡¯ve found a little

The Air Force Museum is impressive. I especially appreciated seeing the B-36 and its parasitic Goblin fighter escort. The B-36 is so large they had to build the museum around it.

You would lose that bet. Car batteries are among the most recycled products out there, with both the lead and the plastic cases being recycled, as well as any electrolyte that may remain in them. I

Re: strange issue on Agilent 54641D MSO
The really sad thing about the "science" behind the move to lead free solder is that it only takes 1% lead to mitigate the tin whisker problem. I believe that Dr. Howard Johnson wrote about this years

8566B attenuator fix
Hi Folks, Looks like the step attenuator (5086-7814) in my 8566B is busted. I took it out, and measured it on the bench. The 10dB stage I can switch on and off correctly, although in one of the states

Who needs tin whiskers in a car when you can have a Tesla with a loose steering wheel? Not that you need a steering wheel with Autopilot. Oh... hang on.. never mind ? Wilko

If you're coming to SW Ohio, another great (and not widely known) place is Carillon Historic Park in Dayton. It's impressive for any medium-city museum, but particularly for geeks. It has the archives

?As for whiskers: I also cleaned everything that look "m¨¨h" under the stereo microscope. I once had this whole whiskering mess explained to me by a HP colleague. Albeit the context was zinc

Re: HP 8341A how to install attenuator
Hello Guy, I¡¯m traveling at the moment so I don¡¯t have references in hand but yes, you need to modify the firmware so the attenuator will be recognized. There is a procedure in the service manual.
