Re: Owner left

Shadow Grafix

I don't have access to the membership list to figure out how to give someone else moderator privileges. I'm not the owner of this group. I'm still listed as the moderator. My preference would be to have groups.io remove the list all together. I'm written to support and hope I hear from them soon.

What actually happens, if The owner of the group does leave the group? Also, are you able to give someone else admin privileges, or can there be only one admin?

Footer info at bottom of group messages

The footer at the bottom that contains all that stuff like links etc which is not controlled by the group owner and its fine within the group but if you want to forward an email from the group to a person not in the group or to a different group that's when it becomes a problem. Sometimes it's just too complicated to move the mail info to a 'new' email and add attachments again.

Is there any way at all that we can delete it on a? 'Forward'?

Thank you

No.

Since a member of any subgroup must also be a member of the primary
group, it is possible that in this scenario the better option would be
to post the message to the primary group. Then everyone would be sent
only one copy.

Shal

While that may avoid the problem in some cases, there will be others were it is inappropriate: when there are main group members who are not members of any of those three sub-groups (maybe of others, or none), and who should not receive the message.

Another consideration is what happens if a member has different delivery options for different sub-groups (or the primary)

Possibly a suggestion that should be raised on beta...

Okay glad I was the only one who saw it that way.
I am in a few?sharing groups where we share what we call Extras.
Tags that say Thank You, You're Welcome etc etc
You ask why would I want to send something to myself?
?
Because if I am sending the same thing to more than one group, I?send the email?to myself and then the other groups I am sending to in the BCC space.
?
That is what I found out. When clicked or copied the message cannot be sent but when replied to it will be sent. It is good to know that I am the only one seeing it that way.

You're the only one that sees it that way.

This was done to avoid a warning that Gmail was showing on messages

Correct, but harmless. (Why would you send a message to yourself?)

If you're talking about a message from a group that has Reply To set to
Sender, correct. That's the Reply-To field at work.

Groups.io site updates #changelog

Hi all,

This week's change log:

Feel free to reply to this topic if you'd like to comment on the
changes. Or better yet, if you expect a lot of discussion start a new
topic (or rejoin an existing one) about a specific change.

CHANGE: Improved the boilerplate around direct add messages.
Hmm... Must go browse our wiki to see if we have some now-obsolete examples to update. Still haven't done that for the welcome message template (from last week).

CHANGE: In the edit pending message page, moved the clean links button
from the advanced toolbar to the main toolbar. Also, it now removes
all 'utm_' tracking query parameters from all links.
Wait, what? What "clean links" button?

Huh, the only prior reference I found was a year and half ago and doesn't explain it either. Anyone know what it does? Something new to add to the wiki, somewhere. Maybe a companion page to the Message Composition page.

Comments about these are welcome:

INTERNAL: More code cleanup around permissions checking.
BUGFIX: The top left/right pagination buttons on the Past Members page
wasn't working.
CHANGE: Integration messages, including calendar invites and other
notices now are moderated if the group is set to moderated.
BUGFIX: The country in an address wasn't retained when going to the
edit row page in the database.
CHANGE: Changed the Log In With Google button to hopefully appease the
Google Marketing folks.
BUGFIX: If someone is in a chat, and chats are then disabled in the
group, properly have the browser redirect off that chat page.
BUGFIX: In the mobile website, was displaying a link to the group
activities page for people who didn't have permission to see that
page (there was no security issue, they would get an error message
trying to access the page).
CHANGE: Copied the Google code-prettify js/css files from the CDN they
were being served from and we're now serving them locally.
BUGFIX: Fixed display of calendar events when the description was
plaintext/markdown.
NEW: Added Organizer Name field to calendar events.
BUGFIX: The banned domain list wasn't being sorted properly and wasn't
displaying the entire list if it was more than 20 domains long.
BUGFIX: If a person doesn't have permission to add calendar events,
don't set the calendar to add events when clicked.
BUGFIX: Don't display the New Poll tab if a person is not allowed to
post.
CHANGE: Change the Google Drive authentication flow to go through
groups.io, even for enterprise groups.
CHANGE: Allow apostrophes in email addresses.
BUGFIX: If attempting to subscribe to a subgroup of a group that is
moderated, the subscription request to the parent group was logged,
a pending member notice was sent, but the pending subscription
record was not actually added to the database.
Please call out any you find significant.

You have to select at least one entry in the Spam Control settings. If you don't want to manage membership requests by moderating posts, check only the Restricted Membership box. Anyone who accepts your invitation (and responds to the confirmation message*) will then be able to post immediately.

Hope this helps,

The last Owner is the group is not allowed to leave, by design. However, that doesn't mean the last Owner won't abandon the group or become incapacitated in some fashion and thus be unable to perform Owner functions. It is always a good idea to assign a trusted subscriber as a backup.

Also, are you able to give someone else admin privileges, or can there be only one admin?
You can have as many Owners and Moderators as you want; just open someone's user record and change the Role entry. Moderator privileges are highly configurable. See?/g/GroupManagersForum/message/14320?

Bruce?

Re: Unmoderate new group members

Fabien

I believe, you can uncheck the checkboxes, so you don¡¯t have to approve posts. However, I¡¯m not sure how to do it, for a specific person. I believe you click on their profile, for the new member, and click on the check box where it it doesn¡¯t need approval. Someone please correct me on this though.

Unmoderate new group members

Our list was migrated from yahoo a few months ago.? I need to add some new members - do they have to be moderated on their first post? Is there a way to disable this?? And, I am not sure what would be the correct setting for the following but our list is not moderated at all and it is a private list.

All posts require approval before being sent to the group.

New Users Moderated

Posts from new subscribers require approval.

Unmoderate After
Automatically unmoderate new users after N consecutive approved posts.

So, what is the correct setting for "unmoderate after" so that they are not moderated at all...

Thank you,
Margery Flax

group name - maximum number of letters?

i'm attempting to create a group so i can migrate a yahoo group to it and i keep getting "That address is not valid". The group is? UnityInMotion-TheNewConsciousnessOfLife Is there maximum number of letters for a group name? I've seen group names with caps and dashes.?

Re: Owner left

It seems that you're the only owner left so you can't leave.? You'd need to delete it at the bottom of the settings page.? Go to the Home page of the group to see if there's an Owner badge next to the Home item on the left menu.? You can always go to the Admin > Members page, then select Moderators from the Members dropdown to see the status of any remaining.? If there are no other owners and you can't delete the group, you'll need to contact Support.

Re: Owner left

I¡¯m not sure. If you have any way of contacting the owner, to ask him or her what to do. Or what the plan is. I just created a group myself, and only have a few members. It is for my YouTube channel primarily, but it¡¯s also, used to ask people or talk about assistive technology, accessible games for the blind and such.

Owner left

Shadow Grafix

Apparently the original owner of this group has left. I am attempting to delete the group or leave the group but the system keeps telling me I had to appoint a new group owner. I do not have any admin permissions. What can I do?

Re: Does a message recipient that is in multiple subgroups receive multiple copies of same email?

Roger,

If a message is sent to all three subgroups, does John receive three
versions of the same email (or does the system eliminate all but one
message)?
A person who is a member of all three subgroups would be sent three copies of the message. Each with its own subgroup-specific subject tag and footer.

Whether that person sees all three copies depends on their email interface. Gmail, for example, will show only one copy and hide the duplicates. I don't think you can control, or even predict, which copy is shown. As far as I know, Gmail is rather unusual in doing that.

... is there a setting that enables receipt of only one copy of the
message?
No.

Since a member of any subgroup must also be a member of the primary group, it is possible that in this scenario the better option would be to post the message to the primary group. Then everyone would be sent only one copy.

Beno?t,

Non news about Mark?
I'm not sure what you mean.

If you're talking about Mark Fletcher (Groups.io developer) he is back from vacation but he doesn't read GMF so he wouldn't even know this question has been raised.

I've not heard anything about it since your post in beta:

Does a message recipient that is in multiple subgroups receive multiple copies of same email?

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

Or, does??send only one copy of the message to the recipient? ? For example,?john@...?is a member of three different subgroups. ? If a message is sent to all three subgroups, does John receive three versions of the same email (or does the system eliminate all but one message)? ? The use case I am inquiring about includes the same email address within multiple subgroups (not different email addresses for same recipient). ? If the answer is ¡°no¡±, then is there a setting that enables receipt of only one copy of the message??

Thank you.?
