Re: Is anyone in contact with Pam Miller?
Well, hi, folks, Pam here.
All is well out here in CA, just haven't been in this group, my oops. What can I tell you? My website went down for a while in late Sep-early Oct due to a weird thing about my account, two logins, both worked but only one counted to keep the site alive (not the one I was using). Took quite a while to get them to reinstate the site after it fell off, yada, yada, yada. It's been back, same url:?. Nothing new for Daniel on it in a while, so the file posted is probably still pretty current. Hope all is well with everybody. I haven't been doing much Daniel research in the last few years. After obsessing on it for so very long, I've finally gotten back into my other lines. Patsy, apologies. Yes, I'm so slow/absent in communication, as Kevin knows well, but I have a recent notice to contact you, aiming for it this coming week. Kevin, can't resist responding to your guess on my age, so close but I'll give back a couple of the years, OK? I'm 68! ;)? Regards to all, sorry for the disappearing act, and...poof, gone again! Re: Is anyone in contact with Pam Miller?
Hi, Can I get some assistance with triangulating my dna to see which line is my Daniel line? My GedMatch kit is #QG941521. My Daniel's line is Amanda Jane Daniel born about 1833 in Alabama and died about 1884 in Texas. She is on a 1850 U.S. Federal Census, District 5, Franklin, Alabama. 1870 U.S. Federal Census, Image 18 Precinct 2, Upshur, Texas. I have her father as John Michael Daniel born about 1801 in South Carolina, his father William Daniel born 1747 in Fairfax County, Virginia died 1807 Abbeville County, South Carolina. Looking confirmation on the Daniel's dna for my line.? Thank you, Amy Hamilton |
Re: Is anyone in contact with Pam Miller?
BTW, I sent two emails to accounts associated with Pam's domain (pamiller.net) and neither was returned as undeliverable, which is to be expected if she still owns the domain and her account to whoever is hosting her domain is paid until 10/22. Not sure how she was hosting her previous site. It is possible that it was hosted on a server that she owned, since there is no domain forwarding to the URL to it. She may also have been paying to hide that, though.... If she responds, I will post that to this list.

Re: Is anyone in contact with Pam Miller?
Thanks, Donna! I will try to contact her via that link.
"We DO show a connection (via YDNA) to Owen Daniel and Thomas Daniel of Isle of Wight, VA and down. " I have never tried to verify that the line of descent from the Isle of Wight Daniels to the folks who claim descent, and have taken a Y DNA test, is proved using primary records, so I advise approaching this supposed connection with caution unless they can provide a primary record trail which proves that connection. If you are relying on this connection as part of your ancestry to guide your research, I advise contacting them and asking them if they can provide primary record evidence to support this connection. If they cannot provide that proof, I would be cautious in citing the connection without noting that it is not proved. It may be. I do not know. If you do contact them and they can provide that primary record evidence, I would appreciate if you would send me their proofs so that I can better manage the Daniel Y DNA Project. Conversely, if they cannot provide that proof, it would just as important for me to be aware of that. There are a few proved (through Y DNA) Middlesex Daniel descendants participating in the Daniel DNA Project who still claim descent from Roger Daniell, Piers Daniell, the D'Anyers, William and Dorothy Forth Daniel, etc., all proved to be incorrect assignments, so one must take any claims of ancestry from participants of the Daniel DNA Project, in general, with a large grain of salt, unless their line has been solidly documented using primary record evidence. If they cannot provide that proof then such assignments are questionable. Actually, lacking that primary record trail, all that can be proved is that there is some connection to the earliest known ancestor of that line of Y DNA matches, not actual descent from that earliest known ancestor. To prove the Y DNA of an ancestor, the descendants of two of his sons must be proved using primary record evidence and have matching Y DNA test results. Best, Kevin |
Re: Is anyone in contact with Pam Miller?
Kevin, I click on her website and get the error message as well...page not found.? I would likewise be concerned about if she is okay...given age and pandemic, etc.? However, in poking around online, I did find this link to zoom classes she was to be instructing in September of 2021, so that's a good sign I think...and possibly a way of getting through to her. In addition, I wanted to add to the chain post the fact that the YDNA has proven beyond doubt that my family's Josiah Jonas Daniel 1793 NC -1856 LA, father of Marmaduke Edwin Daniel is NOT a descendant of the Middlesex Daniel line as so many people out there have listed incorrectly on their trees.? I've seen posts of Pam's that list the connection incorrectly too, though I couldn't find anything on the way back site...didn't understand it.? I have tried to reach out anytime I come across trees incorrectly showing that information.? We DO show a connection (via YDNA) to Owen Daniel and Thomas Daniel of Isle of Wight, VA and down.? We have to yet to find the exact descendant that links to Josiah Jonas Daniel though.?? I do believe I am close.? My theory (unproven) is that our Josiah Jonas Daniel's unknown wife was Nancy Little 1792 Pitt, NC - 1848 TN, 9th child of William Little 1756-1816 & Mary Crandall 1754-1803.? Josiah and Nancy were born only a year apart.? Both lived in Pitt County, NC (the same area where Owen and Thomas Daniel's descendants ended up) and moved to Shelby County, TN.? Nancy died in 1848 and Josiah Jonas moved on to Mer Ruege, Moorehouse Parrish LA in about 1850, after she would have passed.? There is a Roger Kemmerer, Genealogist, who compiled research on Pitt County and in particular, the descendants of William Little and Mary Crandall.? He lists their 14 children and under Nancy, their 9th, it simply says she "married Josiah Daniel and they had children".? That information is stated to have come from a family Bible. That's not much to go on, I know, but I haven't been able to find anything else on HER, either....nobody has.? However, in addition to the dates fitting and the moves fitting, there is the fact that Josiah Jonas' son, Marmaduke (my 2x great grandfather) married Hibernia Love Booker Gardner in 1846 in Shelby Co, TN (before moving to Union Parrish, LA when Josiah moved to LA) and they named their firstborn child, a daughter who was born in TN in 1847, Nannie...perhaps after Marmaduke's mother, Nancy (?)...the year before Nancy Little Daniel(?) died.? Add to that the fact that Marmaduke had a brother that his father, Josiah and wife named Enoch Little Daniel.? There is definitely a naming pattern to bolster my theory. Additionally....I am finding more and more autosomal DNA matches to descendants of William Little and Mary Crandall.? ?There just seems to be nothing more on this Nancy Little!!!? And I can only theorize who, exactly Josiah Jonas' father was...which descendant of the Owen Daniel line.? At the moment, I am guessing it was Josiah Daniel 1768 - ?, son of Lemuel Daniel 1750-1821, son of Hardy/Hardee Daniel 1720-ca1760, son of Simon, son of Owen, son of Thomas, son of John....? Of course there is next to nothing on Josiah Daniel 1768 either. Anyway...that's my story and I'm sticking to it until somebody proves me wrong, lol. Donna ?? ? Donna Erwin,? Re: Is anyone in contact with Pam Miller?
Hi Vickie,
??? I cannot access any pages of her site they either show as "Forbidden" or "Not Found".... ???? All of the pages I checked which are archived on the WayBack Machine are dated no later than 20 November 2020..... I can't believe her site has been down that long without anyone noticing.... ???? The last email I got from her was in June 2019.... All I know is that she lives in California, but I don't know where... Best, Kevin |
Pam Miller's Middlesex County, Virginia Daniel research data access
Pam Miller's extensive, well researched and documented web site is down and it is uncertain if it will be maintained in the future. There are two ways to access some or all of Pam's data.
First is a MS Word document compiled by a member of this list which contains Pam's work on the Y DNA of the Middlesex County, VA Daniel family. It is attached to this post. Second, the complete content of her site is available through the Internet Archive WayBack Machine, an online archive of web content. Pam's site contains/contained data about several surnames, including the Middlesex Daniels, and various other genealogy related data. The link above also provides access to the data included in the MS Word document. The direct link to Pam's main page on the WayBack Machine is: https://web.archive.org/web/20150704165039/http://home.comcast.net/~p.a.miller/genealogy/index.htm |
Re: Is anyone in contact with Pam Miller?
Thanks for the link, Michael. I've been using the WayBack? Machine for years. Many of the folks doing genealogical research are not very web savvy so I wanted the document that Patsy compiled available on this site so that it would be an easy place to point to for folks who just want to access the data that she compiled and not try to figure out how to navigate the WayBack Machine site. Now folks can choose how much effort they want to invest. Here is the link to the main page for Pam's site:
https://web.archive.org/web/20150704165039/http://home.comcast.net/~p.a.miller/genealogy/index.htm I think the links on the Wayback Machine site are stable. I have had some of them bookmarked for around ten years and they still work. I may create a new post that just contains the links and attach the document so that it will be less messy to find the links and file. The Middlesex Daniels are not my line so making the data easy to access is beneficial to me as I frequently get queries about this line. Responding to a query about this line is what led me to finding Pam's site is down. I manage the Daniel DNA Project in addition to this discussion group. My main concern, currently, is seeing if anyone knows if Pam is OK. I think she is in her 70s... I checked ICANN and she has her domain until 10/2022 and has owned it since 10/2000, so the hosting bill for her site may not have been paid. Worrisome... Pam is one of the very best researchers I have ever known, maybe the best. Best, Kevin |
Re: Is anyone in contact with Pam Miller?
开云体育Kevin, I don’t believe that this is the entire site info but it is a large portion. I was using as a reference during my research. ? Patsy ? ? From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Kevin Daniel via groups.io ? Thanks, Patsy. Pam has always been a slow or non-responder,? but the missing website is concerning. I just used her site as a resource to point to Middlesex Daniel descendents to. I would appreciate a copy of the document. If you attach it here others may benefit. |
Re: Is anyone in contact with Pam Miller?
开云体育The site can be accessed via Internet Archive’s WaybackMachine ()A link to her Middlesex County Daniel DNA site is?, You can jump around the site using the cached data from the Wayback Machine. I am not sure if this direct link changes over time, but you can always plug in Pam’s main site on the Wayback Machine URL listed above and jump from there. I corresponded with Pam many years ago but not recently. I am a Middlesex Daniel descendant through William’s problematic son, James. Mike Michael D.
