But what might be even more revealing would be comparing Obama with Obama. There is a big contrast between Obama based on his rhetoric ("Obama 1") and Obama based on his record ("Obama 2"). For example, during the 2008 election campaign, Obama 1 spoke of "opening up and creating more transparency in government," so that government spending plans would be posted on the Internet for days before they passed into legislation. After he was elected president, Obama said, "My Administration is committed to creating an unprecedented level of openness in Government." This Obama 1 sounds like a very good fellow. No wonder so many people voted for him. But then there is Obama 2. He passed a mammoth ObamaCare bill so fast that even members of Congress didn't have time to read it, much less the general public. It was by no means posted on the Internet for days before the vote, as promised. The Constitution of the United States requires transparency as well. When people are nominated by a President to become Cabinet members, the Constitution requires that they be confirmed by the Senate before they can take office, so that facts about them can become known before they are given the powers of their offices. Although President Obama complied with this requirement when he appointed Cabinet members, he also made other appointments to powerful positions created by Executive Orders -- people aptly called "czars" for the vast, unchecked powers they wielded, in some cases greater than the powers exercised by Cabinet members. These "czars" never had to be confirmed by the Senate, and so had no public vetting before acquiring their powers. We had unknown and unaccountable rulers placed over us. Another aspect of transparency was the Constitution's requirement that Congress pass a budget every year. The Democratically controlled Senate during the Obama administration has not passed a budget for three consecutive years. Passing a budget makes the administration tell the public what it will pay for, what it will have to cut to reduce the deficit -- and how big the deficit will be if they don't cut anything. By not even passing a budget, Obama 2 and his party are in effect saying to the public, "It is none of your business." Transparency? In his oath of office, Barack Obama swore to see that the laws are faithfully executed, as all Presidents do. But that was Obama 1. Once in the White House, Obama 2 proceeded to explicitly waive the enforcement of laws he didn't agree with. The immigration laws are a classic example. Failing to get Congress to pass some version of amnesty, Obama 2 simply issued an Executive Order exempting certain classes of illegal immigrants from the immigration laws on the books. Too many people have gotten sucked into a discussion of whether it is a good or a bad thing for people brought into the country as children to be exempted. But the whole reason for Constitutional government is to have all three branches of government agree on what the laws of the land shall be. Obama 2 has decided instead that if Congress doesn't do what he wants, he will do it by himself through Executive Orders. If any President can unilaterally change the law, we are not likely to have the same freedom under rule by presidential fiat as under Constitutional government. This is especially dangerous in a President's second term, when he need no longer have to consider what the voters want. With a couple more Supreme C

Fw: FW: WOW!! letter to Obama
BRAVO! ----- Forwarded Message ----- From: Richard McNaughton To: bp707@... Sent: Wednesday, September 26, 2012 7:46 PM Subject: Re: FW: WOW!! letter to Obama Bob, thanks for this wonderful email. We need more hero's like Harolld. Someone who is willing to speak out and put his self at risk, much as he no doubt did in WW2. I hope all is well with you and your family. My wife Margie is on the road to recovery but has to undergo a final operation in late December or early January. She remains positive with strong faith in Our Lord. I will forward this to other friends and family under BCC. I pray each of you have a day filled with Blessings. Dick On Wed, Sep 26, 2012 at 1:39 PM, Bob Pawson <bp707@...> wrote: WOW!! WOW!! This venerable and much honored WW II vet is well known in Hawaii for his seventy-plus years of service to patriotic organizations and causes all over the country. A humble man without a political bone in his body, he has never spoken out before about a government official, until now. He dictated this letter to a friend, signed it and mailed it to the president. Dear President Obama, My name is Harold Estes, approaching 95 on December 13 of this year. People meeting me for the first time don't believe my age because I remain wrinkle free and pretty much mentally alert. I enlisted in the U. S . Navy in 1934 and served proudly before, during and after WW II retiring as a Master Chief Bos'n Mate. Now I live in a "rest home" located on the western end of Pearl Harbor , allowing me to keep alive the memories of 23 years of service to my country. One of the benefits of my age, perhaps the only one, is to speak my mind, blunt and direct even to the head man. So here goes. I am amazed, angry and determined not to see my country die before I do, but you seem hell bent not to grant me that wish. I can't figure out what country you are the president of. You fly around the world telling our friends and enemies despicable lies like: " We're no longer a Christian nation" " America is arrogant" - (Your wife even announced to the world," America is mean- spirited. " Please tell her to try preaching that nonsense to 23 generations of our war dead buried all over the globe who died for no other reason than to free a whole lot of strangers from tyranny and hopelessness.) I'd say shame on the both of you, but I don't think you like America, nor do I see an ounce of gratefulness in anything you do, for the obvious gifts this country has given you. To be without shame or gratefulness is a dangerous thing for a man sitting in the White House. After 9/11 you said," America hasn't lived up to her ideals." Which ones did you mean? Was it the notion of personal liberty that 11,000 farmers and shopkeepers died for to win independence from the British? Or maybe the ideal that no man should be a slave to another man, that 500,000 men died for in the Civil War? I hope you didn't mean the ideal 470,000 fathers, brothers, husbands, and a lot of fellas I knew personally died for in WWII, because we felt real strongly about not letting any nation push us around, because we stand for freedom. I don't think you mean the ideal that says equality is better than discrimination. You know the one that a whole lot of white people understood when they helped to get you elected. Take a little advice from a very old geezer, young man. Shape up and start acting like an American. If you don't, I'll do what I can to see you get shipped out of that fancy rental on Pennsylvania Avenue . You were elected to lead not to bow, apologize and kiss the hands of murderers and corrupt leaders who still treat their people like slaves. And just who do you think you are telling the American people not to jump to conclusions and condemn that Muslim major who killed 13 of his fellow soldiers and wounded dozens more. You mean you don't want us to do what you did when that white cop used force to subdue that black college professor in Massachusetts , wh

Fw: What I remember
Older than dirt! ----- Forwarded Message ----- From: Pool Boy To: Sent: Tuesday, September 25, 2012 8:18 PM Subject: What I remember THOUGHT YOU MIGHT ENJOY THIS ... 'Someone asked the other day, 'What was your favorite fast food when you were growing up?' 'We didn't have fast food when I was growing up,' I informed him. 'All the food was slow.' 'C'mon, seriously. Where did you eat?' 'It was a place called 'at home,'' I explained. ! 'Mom cooked every day and when Dad got home from work, we sat down together at the dining room table, and if I didn't like what she put on my plate I was allowed to sit there until I did like it.' By this time, the kid was laughing so hard I was afraid he was going to suffer serious internal damage, so I didn't tell him the part about how I had to have permission to leave the table. But here are some other things I would have told him about my childhood if I figured his system could have handled it : Some parents NEVER owned their own house, never wore Levis, never set foot on a golf course, never traveled out of the country or had a credit card. In their later years they had something called a revolving charge card. The card was good only at Sears Roebuck. Or maybe it was Sears & Roebuck. Either way, there is no Roebuck anymore. Maybe he died. My parents never drove me to soccer practice.. This was mostly because we never had heard of soccer... I had a bicycle that weighed probably 50 pounds, and only had one speed, (slow) We didn't have a television in our house until I was 16. It was, of course, black and white, and the station went off the air at midnight, after playing the national anthem and a poem about God; it came back on the air at about 6 a..m. and there was usually a locally produced news and farm show on, featuring local people. I was 21 before I tasted my first pizza, it was called 'pizza pie.' When I bit into it, I burned the roof of my mouth and the cheese slid off, swung down, plastered itself against my chin and burned that, too. It's still the best pizza I ever had. I never had a telephone in my room. The only phone in the house was in the living room and it was on a party line. Before you could dial, you had to listen and make sure some people you didn't know weren't already using the line. Pizzas were not delivered to our home But milk was. All newspapers were delivered by boys and all boys delivered newspapers -- It cost 7 cents a paper, and they got to keep 2 cents. They had to get up at 6AM every morning. On Saturday, they had to collect the 42 cents from their customers. Their favorite customers were the ones who gave them 50 cents and told them to keep the change. Their least favorite customers were the ones who seemed to never be home on collection day. Movie stars kissed with their mouths shut. At least, they did in the movies. There were no movie ratings because all movies were responsibly produced for everyone to enjoy viewing, without profanity or violence or most anything offensive. If you grew up in a generation before there was fast food, you may want to share some of these memories with your children or grandchildren Just don't blame me if they bust a gut laughing. Growing up isn't what it used to be, is it? MEMORIES from a friend : My Dad is cleaning out my grandmother's house (she died in December) and he brought me an old Royal Crown Cola bottle. In the bottle top was a stopper with a bunch of holes in it.. I knew immediately what it was, but my daughter had no idea. She thought they had tried to make it a salt shaker or something. I knew it as the bottle that sat on the end of the ironing board to 'sprinkle' clothes with because we didn't have steam irons. Man, I am old. How many do you remember? Head lights dimmer switches on the floor. Ignition switches on the dashboard. Heaters mounted on the inside of the fire wall. Real ice boxes. Pant leg clips for bicycles without chain guards. Soldering irons you heat on a gas burner. Using hand signals for cars without turn signals. Older Than Dirt Quiz : Count all the ones that you remember not the ones you wer

I Live in Mayberry ?
3
What a startling fact I found out today that I live in Mayberry 2012. Apparently www.livability.com selected the top 10 small cities in the USA. Boerne Tx was rated number 4. I guess our local Chamber of Commerce must have written an essay to promote Boerne. Strange that the top 10 are compared to Mayberry. Andy Griffith would be proud. Maybe we should call Boerne hicksville or pokeberry. We don't have Floyd's Barber Shop; it's hard to find a barber shop at all. Now we have Great Clip franchises and other franchised hair styling places. Restaurants are overpriced and the food and service are mediocre at best. School taxes are out of sight and government services are almost non-existent. Water resources are very limited and those persons living in the county outside the city limits are treated like criminals if they use their own well water. At least the air quality is very good and our well water tastes great (at least the amount I am allowed to drink). Maybe this is Mayberry after all. The Cynicmeister

53rd Class Gathering for DHS Class of 1959
8
Anyone interested in a class gathering sometime between Aug 28 to September 5? We will be in Ohio staying at the Rodeway Inn in Wooster. Excluded days are August 31 and September 1 due to a scheduling conflict with Rose's 50th Orrville class gathering. Paul and Suzanne Sturpe have the same scheduling conflict since they are also part of the Orrville shindig. Also excluded is August 30 since we may go to see the Cleveland Indians lose a game at Cleveland Municipal Stadium for their 12:05 pm afternoon game that day. Other excluded days are August 28 the day we arrive via Southwest Bags Fly Free Airline and September 5 when we leave via Southwest again. So I guess that would make the gathering hootenanny occur on the dates August 29 or September 2, 3, or 4. Any ideas of where to gather? Maybe the Subway in Dalton? Or perhaps The Grand Ranch (old El Rancho Grande) in Wooster? Or maybe an all-time favorite place Brady's Pink Cottage in Massillon (if it still exists). Or maybe Clay's Park. Or how about the Canton Zoo to see if the toothless lion still lives. I would suggest Hank's Tavern in East Greenville but I think that the place burned down a couple of decades ago. Anyone interested in the project can arrange all the details. I don't want to get involved. Let me know how I can help not arrange the details. Good luck in your dedicated planning abilities. All those interested in the gathering should let me know so I can assign the details to anyone who volunteers to help. All those not interested in the gathering can ignore this e-mail just like all the other mundane e-mails I send to the group. See you'ns someday. A pleasant reminder: Only 1640 days until BHO finishes his second term and decides not to reign forever. The Curmudgeonmeister

The Rule of 7
After several feeble attempts to recall the Rule of 7, I will now try to explain to the best of my recollection the dark secrets of grilling in a simplistic manner. I tried several days ago to write the Rule of 7 parameters, but somehow before I could send the message I inexplicably hit the Escape key and the whole message was lost. Anyways, here is the Rule of 7 which originated in an article I saw in the Pedernales Electric Coop monthly magazine several years ago. This method works with practically with any meat, fish or veggie cooked on a Weber grill. I, being the purist afficianado of charcoal briquettes for grilling, will explain it for grilling on a charcoal grill although I suppose it would also work on a gas grill. I will use steak as an example: Pour a small amount of EVOO on the steak and crush in kosher salt (or coarse grind sea salt) and extra coarse black pepper on both sides of the steak. NY strip steak works well with the Rule of 7. After the grill is hot enough to fry your hand, put the steak on the grill and cook for 4 minutes. Then turn the steak 1/4 turn and cook for 3 more minutes (hence the rule of 7). Then flip the steak and cook 4 minutes on the second side and then turn the steak 1/4 turn and cook for 3 more minutes. The steak (which was approximately 1 17/32 thick should turn out to be medium which is my preferred level of doneness. Then take the steak off the grill and put on a platter and put about 1 1/16 ounce of butter on top and cover with a disposable cake pan bottom side up of the cake pan. Let the steak rest for about 2.2546 minutes to allow the butter to melt into the steak. Perfecto mundo. And I don't even like butter, but it does add to the flavor of the steak. This method also works on chicken breasts and pork chops, and burgers. Just use the Rule of 7 in multiple sequences. Here is an example for a bone-in skinless chicken breast: I use a canary colored legal pad to keep track of the Rule of &. Start 6:00 pm Turn 6:04 pm Flip 6:07 pm Turn 6:11 pm Flip 6:14 pm Turn 6:18 pm Flip 6:21 pm Turn 6:25 pm Flip 6:28 pm Turn 6:32 pm Flip 6:35 pm Turn 6:39 pm End 6:42 pm Take el perfecto chicken off the grill at end of cooking cycle and cover with aluminum foil and let rest for a few minutes before serving. The Rule of 7 is simplistic but is idiot proof. Have a day. The Webercharcoalmeister

Retro Coffee-Finally a pot of coffee with taste
12
After all these years of suffering with the electric coffee makers such as Mr. Coffee and all other brands which make lukewarm nasty tasting coffee disbursed by these marvels of technology, I finally decided to get a non-electric percolator which makes coffee the old-fashioned way of 50 years ago. I chose the Farberware Yosemite Percolator which I got online at amazon.com for $19.99. The coffee which it brews is actually hot and actually has a taste. It works best with cheap coffee. I prefer Chase & Sanborn but I can't find that brand in Texas. So I use Master Chef which I can buy at Wally World in Boerne. 33 ounces for $5.35. Master Chef is roasted by Massimo Zanetti (which also roasts Chase & Sanborn). The Yosemite Percolator is a 10 cup percolator. We have an electric range. After many attempts at how to make the perfect pot of coffee, here is my routine: For a full pot of coffee, use 4 giant scoops of cheapo coffee. Our electric range has a burner setting from 0 to 10. I select the 5 setting and perc for 25 minutes. Then I select the 2 setting and perc for 8 minutes. Then I turn off the range and let the coffee set on an unused cold burner for another 2.7 minutes. The coffee is then ready to drink. Pour as many cups as you wish. Put excess coffee in a thermal carafe to keep the remaining coffee scalding hot. I tried in vain to find a stainless steel vacuum coffee pot but could find none. So I selected the Yosemite percolator instead. I am pleased as punch with my purchase. To all you coffee freaks, I recommend this Yosemite percolator. As an aside, I suggest you also buy the glass percolator top for a few dollars on Amazon.com to replace the yukko plastic top which comes standard with the Yosemite. Anyone else out there frustated with lukewarm foul tasting coffee? Ditch those Mr Coffee and related copy cat devices and go back to the future with a percolator!!!! Have a swell day, The Coffeemeister

I'll tell you one thing, if things keep going the way they are, it's going to be impossible to buy a week's groceries for $10.00. Have you seen the new cars coming out next year? It won't be long before $2,000.00 will only buy a used one. If cigarettes keep going up in price, I'm going to quit; 20 cents a pack is ridiculous. Did you hear the post office is thinking about charging 7 cents just to mail a letter. If they raise the minimum wage to $1.00, nobody will be able to hire outside help at the store. When I first started driving, who would have thought gas would someday cost 25 cents a gallon. Guess we'd be better off leaving the car in the garage. I'm afraid to send my kids to the movies any more. Ever since they let Clark Gable get by with saying DAMN in GONE WITH THE WIND, it seems every new movie has either HELL or DAMN in it. I read the other day where some scientist thinks it's possible to put a man on the moon by the end of the century. They even have some fellows they call astronauts preparing for it down in Texas . Did you see where some baseball player just signed a contract for $50,000 a year just to play ball? It wouldn't surprise me if someday they'll be making more than the President. I never thought I'd see the day all our kitchen appliances would be electric. They're even making electric typewriters now. It's too bad things are so tough nowadays. I see where a few married women are having to work to make ends meet. It won't be long before young couples are going to have to hire someone to watch their kids so they can both work. I'm afraid the Volkswagen car is going to open the door to a whole lot of foreign business. Thank goodness I won't live to see the day when the Government takes half our income in taxes. I sometimes wonder if we are electing the best people to government. The fast food restaurant is convenient for a quick meal, but I seriously doubt they will ever catch on. There is no sense going on short trips anymore for a weekend. It costs nearly $2.00 a night to stay in a hotel. No one can afford to be sick anymore. At $15.00 a day in the hospital, it's too rich for my blood. If they think I'll pay 30 cents for a haircut, forget it. Know any friends who would get a kick out of these, pass this on. Be sure and send it to your kids and grandkids, too!

This is but one seizure that has taken place along the border over the past year. There have been many more like this. (but you won't hear about it on major media news.) Not a mention on ABC - CBS - NBC - MSNBC - or CNN news- - even on FOX These photos and reports come from a Spanish language news source. One More Thing to Worry About
3
Just when I thought there were no more things to worry about, a bird has been attacking my outside car mirrors. This bird is in love with my car mirror. Daily he pecks away and stares at herself in the mirror. A side effect is the proverbial bird excrement she leaves behind. I finally solved the problem by putting Wal Mart bags over the mirrors secured by a high tech rubber band. This has at least slowed down the bird attacks. The only downside is I must remember to take off the Wal Mart bags before I drive the car. I have not seen this activity before this year. Do you suppose this is an omen of some kind? Perchance Albert Hitchcock is behind this plot. Remember his movie "The Birds" with Tippi Hedren? Speaking of Albert Hitchcock, I am now obsessed with watching black and white reruns of his Alfred Hitchcock Hour each weekday night from 10:00 to 10:50 pm on Directv Channel 539 Encore Suspense. Classic Hitchcock stuff without commercials. I ask myself why I watch this when all of the shows have stupid endings. Maybe that is the answer: they all have stupid endings. Classics indeed. This begs the question why do I have an HDTV and then watch black and white Hitchcock shows. The answer is that there is nothing better to watch on the tv wasteland (especially network tv crapola). Anyways, I digress. Back to the birds dilemma, I thought I would pass along my solution to the birds in the mirror problem to others. Anyone else have a similar problem with birds? Or maybe the birds are trying to drive me mad. So far, they are ahead of me. So spring is finally here. We have bluebonnets galore this year in our yard. After a reprieve from the recent 2 year drought, there is an abundance of wild flowers this year. Who would have thunk back in 1959 that I would be writing about wildflowers in my golden years... What an incredible display. This could be one of the last surviving Christian displays of its kind in the country! This is about 70 miles from Amarillo outside of a town called Groom, TX. Read message at the end of pictures! These are the pictures of the crucifixion of Christ, Sculptured from metal by a man near Amarillo , TX. The crosses are made of metal also. The man did this out of the kindness of his heart. Someone donated the land on which to erect them. IN CHEMISTRY, HE TURNED WATER TO WINE. IN BIOLOGY, HE WAS BORN WITHOUT THE NORMAL CONCEPTION. IN PHYSICS, HE DISPROVED THE LAW OF GRAVITY WHEN HE ASCENDED INTO HEAVEN. IN ECONOMICS, HE DISPROVED THE LAW OF DIMINISHING RETURN BY FEEDING 5000 MEN WITH TWO FISHES & 5 LOAVES OF BREAD. IN MEDICINE, HE CURED THE SICK AND THE BLIND WITHOUT ADMINISTERING A SINGLE DOSE OF DRUGS. IN HISTORY, HE IS THE BEGINNING AND THE END. IN GOVERNMENT, HE WAS CALLED WONDERFUL COUNSELOR, PRINCE OF PEACE. IN RELIGION, HE SAID NO ONE COMES TO THE FATHER EXCEPT THROUGH HIM. SO, WHO IS HE? HE IS JESUS! JOIN ME AND LET'S CELEBRATE HIM; HE IS WORTHY. THE EYES BEHOLDING THIS MESSAGE SHALL NOT BEHOLD EVIL. THE HAND THAT WILL SEND THIS MESSAGE TO EVERYBODY SHALL NOT LABOR IN VAIN. AND THE MOUTH SAYING AMEN TO THIS PRAYER SHALL SMILE FOREVER. REMAIN IN GOD AND SEEK HIS FACE ALWAYS. AMEN IN GOD I'VE FOUND EVERYTHING! The greatest man in history had no servants, yet they called Him master. Had no degree, yet they called Him teacher. Had no medicines, yet they called Him healer. He had no army, yet kings feared Him. He won no military battles, yet He conquered the world. He committed no crime, yet they crucified Him. He was buried in a tomb, yet He lives today. I feel honored to serve such a leader who loves us! If you believe in God and in Jesus Christ His Son, you may wish to send it on .... if not, just ignore it. If you ignore it, just remember that Jesus said. 'If you deny me before men, I will deny you before my Father"

Another one of life's bitter disappointments
Shamrock shakes from McDonald's are green and supposedly have a minty taste. After craving a mint milkshake, I decided to try a Shamrock shake yesterday. The shake was definitely green. However, it tasted like a lime flavoring and not a mint flavoring. Another one of life's bitter disappointments. Anyone have a similar McDonald's offtaste Shamrock shake? Or maybe it is I who can't taste stuff like I did years ago. Another aging problem I suppose. Happy St. Paddy's Day soon, The Shakemeister
