I Performed With Elvis this past Christmas !!! - see attachment -is that better than "having drinks" with him ??? 2
Hi John-meister: Well, you've given me a good laugh this afternoon with your email. Looking forward to a dim future!!!! This is the year I have to start taking "Required Minimum Distribution" (RMD). Not sure how it works. Anybody got any good advice about it. I know it's taxable. I figure I may as well live it up a bit considering the 12/21/2012 Mayan prediction and all other prophecy I know about the "end times." I believe we are definitely in them! Everybody have a good week! The "Patsy Cline Meister" Linda F. From: jhdouglas59 To: dalton59@... I still listen to vinyls, cassette tapes, and even more modernly--cd discs. Nothing really beats scratchy distorted vinyls however. The sound of vinyls is pure sound. Maybe the vinyls are coming back. Probably to meet Elvis. Whatever happened to Mathias Koops? I voted for him in 1976. Pardon me. You must have mistaken me for someone who actually cares about the 1976 election. As I recall, the peanut farmer won that election. Those were the days of high interest rates and rampant inflation. Now in these Obama days we can now enjoy low interest rates and inflation. Nothing like low interest rates to give me some near zero returns on money market accounts. Sure makes retirement challenging (to say the least). Time to put some fuel in my vehicles before the prices increase daily. I wish all sporadic good times. Follow Me--I'm Having Drinks With Elvis 5
I saw this on a t-shirt at Luckenbach, Tx a couple of days ago. Not that I am an Elvis fan--just thought it was clever. I don't necessarily believe that Elvis is still alive, although it seems plausible. Or perhaps the meaning is that the end is near and the person wearing the t-shirt is on his own farewell tour to join Elvis in the afterlife. Just give the elderly guy wearing it a break. The elderly guy was probably actually younger than me. Elderly is a fleeting definition to me. Also the guy in the t-shirt was accompanied by a lady wearing a dress made from flowered drapes (or so it appeared to me). Perchance she was the archangel who travels with Elvis. It only seems poetic that Elvis may be pondering a future performance at the Luckenbach Dancehall. Maybe he can sing a song along with Waylon Jennings who sang the Luckenbach, Texas song along with Willie Nelson and the boys. Let's go to Luckenbach, Texas for the next class gathering. Who knows what we will see? As an aside, here is a great answer to the next person who asks a question to you. Just say "Why do you ask?" and watch the dumbfounded look on the questioner's face. This answer works well with the mundane trite question "How are you?" Nobody actually wants to know how you are doing. It is just idle conversation. So how are you all doing? The Questionmeister

Y'all: Just a brief note to let every dalton59 member that I still exist (in sprit if not in sound mind). I will post my existence every other month to let you know that I mean well. Is this dalton59 group still in existence or what? My epitaph will be as George Carlin suggested: "He was just here a moment ago". Cheers and happy year of the dragon, The Curmudgeonmeister

Turkey dressing poll results 3
After having spent many strenuous hours tabulating the results of the votes cast for bread vs cornbread dressing, here are the results: 4 votes for bread dressing 1 vote for cornbread dressing 17 non votes for disinterested members who don't care what kind (if any) of dressing So if you want the results for voting members, the result is: 80% favor bread dressing 20% favor cornbread dressing On the other hand, if you count the non votes, the result is: 18.1818% favor bread dressing 4.5455% favor cornbread dressing 77.2727% don't care So I guess the winner (probably will always be a winner) is: The don't care/disinterested memmbers win in a landslide!!! I will use this same methodology in the next presidential election in 2012 to project a winner. A logical time to make the prediction would be February 29, 2012. My current prediction (subject to change of course) is that Steve Forbes ekes out a victory over Barack Hussein Obama. If Steve Forbes opts out of the election in the primaries, then the obvious result is Barack Hussein Obama winning 77.2727% of the popular vote and 92.312% in the electoral college in 2012. I think the don't care populace outweigh the informed voters next election. Have a great turkey day and don't stuff yourself. Let the turkey get stuffed instead. The Turkeymeister

Poll: Bread stuffing vs. Cornbread stuffing 7
I am starting a poll to ask who likes which kind of stuffing for turkeys? I prefer bread stuffing (made from stale white and/or brown bread with mushrooms, bacon and hot peppers plus celery and onions with perhaps some oysters). I suspect this is somehow related to my Dalton years. Cornbread stuffing is fowl (sic) tasting to me. What is your preference? The deadline for voting is Sunday Nov 20 at 8 pm (CST). The results will be meaningless. Don't forget to take the turkey innards from the turkey before roasting. Hoping your turkey is edible, Johnny

found this out from Camille while I was in Dalton last week. My sympathy to Cookie and the family. I think I had a crush on him at one time....but who didnt I have a crush on....LOL I got to go to the Wayne CO fair and I can say it has remained much the same. Enjoyed a Gyro and 2 cones of french fries with vinegar and salt an 3 lerches donuts. Camille made the same apricot bars to enter into the baking contest for the fair that I made in 1972 and she won a blue ribbon just as I did. Life goes on! We are now in Morgantown WVA, weather was nice today but has been cold and gloomy and we will get on the road in the AM and travel back home. Its been a great trip but there is nothing like HOME SWEET HOME> Ya all come visit.........loveto all........ patricia lee

Anyone know what happened to the easy sign-in to yahoo groups? What used to take about 15 seconds now takes about 5 minutes. I know the older you get the harder it is to figure out this tech stuff, but this is ridiculous. Any suggestions as to how to easily access the dalton59 group? The Bigger the Menu the Worse the Food 2
I heard this today on Michael Savage Radio Show and thought it was very profound. The bigger the menu refers to the size of the menu--not the number of items on the menu. All the la-de-dah upstream yuppie restaurants try to make an impression with their ornate large menus. I for one prefer the local dumps for good food. Just ask a local where you can find good food. Chances are it is not an upscale overpriced phony place. Just send me to any local diner, drive-in or dives place. They are getting harder to find. I have not been able to find any authentic diners anywhere. Whatever happened to the Riceland Diner? My search continues. Any suggestions of where to find diners (old railroad diners)? Have a neato mundane day. The Dinersearchermeister

US
Senior citizens are constantly being criticized for every conceivable deficiency of the modern world, real or imaginary. We know we take responsibility for all we have done and do not blame others. HOWEVER, upon reflection, we would like to point out that it was NOT the senior citizens who took: The melody out of music, The pride out of appearance, The courtesy out of driving, The romance out of love, The commitment out of marriage, The responsibility out of parenthood, The togetherness out of the family, The learning out of education, The service out of patriotism, The Golden Rule from rulers, The nativity scene out of cities, The civility out of behavior, The refinement out of language, The dedication out of employment, The prudence out of spending, The ambition out of achievement or God out of government and school. And we certainly are NOT the ones whoeliminated patience and tolerancefrom personal relationships and interactions with others!! And, we do understand the meaning of patriotism, and remember those who have fought and died for our country. Just look at the Seniors with tears in their eyes and pride in their hearts as they stand at attention with their hand over their hearts! YES, I'M A SENIOR CITIZEN! I'm the life of the party...... even if it lasts until 8 p.m. I'm very good at opening childproof caps.... with a hammer. I'm awake many hours before my body allows me to get up. I'm smiling all the time because I can't hear a thing you're saying. I'm sure everything I can't find is in a safe secure place, somewhere. I'm wrinkled, saggy, lumpy, and that's just my left leg. I'm beginning to realize that aging is not for wimps. Yes, I'm a SENIOR CITIZEN and I think I am having the time of my life! Now if I could only remember who sent this to me, I wouldn't send it back to them, but I would send it to many more too! Spread the laughter Share the cheer Let's be happy While we're here. Hello 2
Just wondered if anyone else is out there besides John and Paul. They are the only ones sharing recently. Hope you are all having a great summer with many more grandchildren on the way. Drop the class of 59 a few lines and update us in any changes in your families etc. Any thoughts on a reunion in 2 years let me know. Here is a article on stress which I am sure that none of us have! Well only if you have children............. Stress A young lady confidently walked around the room while explaining stress management to an audience. As she raised a glass of water, everyone was sure she was going to ask the ultimate question: 'Half empty or half full?' However, she fooled them all. "How heavy is this glass of water?" she inquired with a smile. Answers called out ranged from 8 oz. to 20 oz. She replied, "The absolute weight doesn't matter. It depends on how long I hold it. If I hold it for a minute, that's not a problem. If I hold it for an hour, I'll have an ache in my right arm. If I hold it for a day, you'll have to call an ambulance. In each case it's the same weight, but the longer I hold it, the heavier it becomes." She continued, "That's the way it is with stress. If we carry our burdens all the time, sooner or later, as the burden becomes increasingly heavy, we won't be able to carry on." "As with the glass of water, you have to put it down for a while and rest before holding it again. When we're refreshed, we can carry on with the burden -- holding stress longer and better each time. So, as early in the evening as you can, put all your burdens down. Don't carry them through the evening and into the night.... Pick them up tomorrow. "Whatever burdens you're carrying now, let them down for a moment. Relax; pick them up later after you've rested. Life is short. Enjoy it and the now 'supposed' stress that you've conquered!" 1 * Accept the fact that some days you're the pigeon and some days you're the statue! 2 * Always keep your words soft and sweet, just in case you have to eat them. 3 * Always read stuff that will make you look good if you die in the middle of it. 4 * Drive carefully. It's not only cars that can be recalled by their Maker. 5 * If you can't be kind, at least have the decency to be vague. 6 * If you lend someone $20 and never see that person again, it was probably worth it. 7 * It may be that your sole purpose in life is simply to serve as a warning to others. 8 * Never buy a car you can't push. 9 * Never put both feet in your mouth at the same time, because then you won't have a leg to stand on. 10 * Nobody cares if you can't dance well. Just get up and dance. 11 * Since it's the early worm that gets eaten by the bird, sleep late. 12 * The second mouse gets the cheese. 13 * When everything's coming your way, you're in the wrong lane. 14 * Birthdays are good for you. The more you have, the longer you live. 15 * You may be only one person in the world, but you may also be the world to one person. 16 * Some mistakes are too much fun to make only once. 17 * We could learn a lot from crayons. Some are sharp, some are pretty, and some are dull. Some have weird names and all are different colors, but they all have to live in the same box. 18 * A truly happy person is one who can enjoy the scenery on a detour. 19 * Have an awesome day and know that someone has thought about you today. 20 * It was I, your friend! *Save the earth: it's the only planet with chocolate!*

Anyone have any rain to spare? 2
Just wondering if anyone would like to share some rain with me. I will trade you 9 months of record drought for a couple of inches of rain. We have received about 4 inches of rain since January 1. I think our normal rainfall for a "normal" year is about 30 inches. We are a tad behind "normal" rainfall. The heat is wonderful but the absence of rain is not too swift. One of these days we will probably get 10 inches of rain in a couple of days; then there will be flash flooding. All of these weird weather events happen in cycles. I just happen to be here in one of the drought cycles. We are in stage 5 (out of six stages) of the drought. We are allowed to water our lawn once a week with a hand held hose during certain hours. What a great way to spend a day. So how much rain have you'ns gotten thus far this year? Please share some with me. Have a swell day. The Curmudgeonmeister

How Wasteful the Older Generation Was ... * 2
How Wasteful the Older Generation Was ... * In the line at the store, the cashier told the older woman that she should bring her own grocery bag because plastic bags weren't good for the environment. The woman apologized to him and explained, "We didn't have the green thing back in my day." The clerk responded, "That's our problem today. The former generation did not care enough to save our environment." He was right, that generation didn't have the green thing in its day. Back then, they returned their milk bottles, soda bottles and beer bottles to the store. The store sent them back to the plant to be washed and sterilized and refilled, so it could use the same bottles over and over. So they really were recycled. But they didn't have the green thing back in that customer's day. In her day, they walked up stairs, because they didn't have an escalator in every store and office building. They walked to the grocery store and didn't climb into a 300-horsepower machine every time they had to go two blocks. But she was right. They didn't have the green thing in her day. Back then, they washed the baby's diapers because they didn't have the throw-away kind. They dried clothes on a line, not in an energy gobbling machine burning up 220 volts - wind and solar power really did dry the clothes. Kids got hand-me-down clothes from their brothers or sisters, not always brand-new clothing. But that old lady is right, they didn't have the green thing back in her day. Back then, they had one TV, or radio, in the house - not a TV in every room. And the TV had a small screen the size of a handkerchief, not a screen the size of the state of Montana. In the kitchen, they blended and stirred by hand because they didn't have electric machines to do everything for you. When they packaged a fragile item to send in the mail, they used a wadded up old newspaper to cushion it, not Styrofoam or plastic bubble wrap. Back then, they didn't fire up an engine and burn gasoline just to cut the lawn. They used a push mower that ran on human power. They exercised by working so they didn't need to go to a health club to run on treadmills that operate on electricity. But she's right, they didn't have the green thing back then. They drank from a fountain when they were thirsty instead of using a cup or a plastic bottle every time they had a drink of water. They refilled their writing pens with ink instead of buying a new pen, and they replaced the razor blades in a razor instead of throwing away the whole razor just because the blade got dull. But they didn't have the green thing back then. Back then, people took the streetcar or a bus and kids rode their bikes to school or rode the school bus instead of turning their moms into a 24-hour taxi service. They had one electrical outlet in a room, not an entire bank of sockets to power a dozen appliances. And they didn't need a computerized gadget to receive a signal beamed from satellites 2,000 miles out in space in order to find the nearest pizza joint. But isn't it sad the current generation laments how wasteful the old folks were just because they didn't have the green thing back then?
