The Bigger the Menu the Worse the Food
jhdouglas59
I heard this today on Michael Savage Radio Show and thought it was
very profound. The bigger the menu refers to the size of the menu--not the number of items on the menu. All the la-de-dah upstream yuppie restaurants try to make an impression with their ornate large menus. I for one prefer the local dumps for good food. Just ask a local where you can find good food. Chances are it is not an upscale overpriced phony place. Just send me to any local diner, drive-in or dives place. They are getting harder to find. I have not been able to find any authentic diners anywhere. Whatever happened to the Riceland Diner? My search continues. Any suggestions of where to find diners (old railroad diners)? Have a neato mundane day. The Dinersearchermeister |

John,
?
The next time you come East, consider doing a side trip to Peru, Indiana-just north of Kokomo and across from Grissom Air Force Base.? In Peru, there is a restaurant called "The Siding".? There are several train cars one can go through, some items have been restored, others remain unchanged.? The food is good.? I've only eaten there once but my sister, who lives in Peru takes guests there on a regular basis.
?
Another side trip for food in a rail station would be in Noblesville, north of Indianapolis.? It's more of a pub but I go by it whenever I'm on 116th street.? (Maybe it's address is Fishers, now that I think about it.)? Nobelsville does have a restoration of passenager trains in progress, as funds become available.? I think it's actually called a museum.? Each year, at State Fair time, one of their refurbished trains offers rides from the Fair grounds here in Indy up to their M:useum.? Dave and I took that ride once several years ago.? He was a train buff.? In fact, one of our AGO'ers (American Guild of Organist) is a certified train conductor and often does his "spiel" on the Fair Train.? Yes, it's the same State Fair that has now had 7 tragic deaths due to a temporary stage scaffolding mishap on the 13th of this month.? I was scheduled to play keyboard for an ecumenical German Service Sunday
afternoon (14th) but of course, the fair was closed for the day.? The service was rescheduled for this past Sunday.? The service was entirely in German and yes, I "played " in German, too!? If you are into the Indy 500, the museum at the Speedway is very interesting.? Several years ago, I hosted a Paul N Amstutz reunion and one day was entirely taken up with visiting the Children's Museum in the morning and the Speedway Museum in the afternoon.? My siblings, nieces and nephews all said that was not enough time - should have been one complete day for each of the attractions.
?
So when you come by Indianapolis, give me a call and I'll be happy to give you detailed information on the sights of the city and near-by Grissom Air Force Base.? If you are into architecture, just South of Indy in Columbus Indiana there are lots of contemporary churches, public buildings and houses to see.? It's not far from the famous Brown County-much like Holmes County in Ohio.? Very hilly and scenic in the fall.? Nashville, Indiana is another tourist trap but I love visiting there.? One of the "traps" is homemade ice cream and eating "fried" biscuits with homemade apple butter!
?
Bon Appetite or however it is spelled.
