DoS: Elasis 20 - Helmsport

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

DM/

Date: Eleasis 20

Season: Highsun (summer)

Location: Helmsport, Maztica

Time: Early afternoon?

Stepping through the magic portal, you suddenly find yourself on the outskirts of a moderately sized port city just beyond a market square near the coast. Lively yet comfortably manageable, the port itself is active with several small local fishing boats, and one large?seafaring ship which dominates the port, its sails marked with unfamiliar symbols. The cool sea air is a blend of fish, saltwater and unusual spices.

The streets are well-populated but not congested, filled with a mix of mostly Amnian sailors in distinctive clothing interspersed with Payit locals in practical attire. Market stalls and small shops line the roads, offering everything from fresh regional produce to intriguing looking crafted items.?

At the city¡¯s center stands a modest yet impressive stone keep, serving as a focal point for the community. Its sturdy walls and imposing presence provide a sense of security and authority. Several heavily armed and armored guardsmen mill about its gates.?

Surrounding the keep, the buildings are functional, some adorned with modest decorative elements and subtle aromatic incense enhancements. Stone and mortar rowhouses complete the city center with wooden farmhouses and smaller thatch shanties just beyond the borders nearer the jungle.

Overall, the port city exudes a vibrant, engaging atmosphere that feels bustling without being overwhelming, offering the party a sense of both opportunity and intrigue.

And what do you do?

/DM

Sweet William puts his axe away and looks at the large ship. Does it look like she¡¯s making preparations to depart? Is the crew loading? Unloading? Is the tide incoming or outgoing? Has anyone in the immediate area seem to have noticed their sudden magical arrival?

Does it look like she¡¯s making preparations to depart??Is the crew loading? Unloading??

Sailors are casually loading the ship. There does seem to be an impending departure but not any time soon. Several sailors are even just hanging about talking or staring out to sea.

Is the tide incoming or outgoing??

The tide is low and appears to be going out. There seems to be enough water to prevent the ship from going around, but that is probably why they aren¡¯t fully loading it at this time.

Has anyone in the immediate area seem to have noticed their sudden magical arrival?

No. Your arrival is on the outskirts near the jungle treeline south of the city. You notice a few farmers in fields a couple hundred yards away to the west but if anyone did notice you they might think you just walked out of the wilderness.

¡°What say we head in and see if we can talk to some sailors and find out where the ship is headed and when. If it¡¯s going our way, we can book passage with the captain,¡± Sweet William says.

"I think perusing the local establishments and harbormaster would be a better choice than taking the first boat we see.? I'm sure there may be some premium markets we could browse before rushing off."? added Flynn, obvious to not be in a hurry to be cooped up aboard a ship.

Helmsport, Maztica

Midafternoon

Making your way across the serene farmland to a well traveled hardpack road, you feel at ease finally back in ¡®civilization¡¯. As you navigate through the bustling market area of the exotic port city, you are greeted by a local merchant, a stout man with a jovial demeanor. He is clad in a vibrant array of layered garments, their colors and patterns reflecting the rich tapestry of the city¡¯s culture. His dark, bushy beard and warm smile further emphasize his welcoming nature.

The merchant¡¯s stall is a kaleidoscope of colors, brimming with an assortment of goods. Vials of glowing liquids in various hues are arranged meticulously, their luminous contents casting a soft, mesmerizing glow. Exotic fruits, some with iridescent skins and others shaped in unusual forms, are piled high, their aromas mingling in the air. Intricate trinkets¡ªcarved wooden figures, ornate jewelry, and delicate metalwork¡ªcatch the light and sparkle enticingly.

With a grand, sweeping gesture towards the array of goods, the merchant exclaims, ¡°Greetings, my friends! First time in our fine city, I see. May I assist you in finding anything? Perhaps some local delicacies or unique curios?¡± His accent, thick yet melodious, underscores his genuine enthusiasm for his city and its treasures.

As you approach him, you notice how his eyes light up with curiosity and pride, revealing a deep connection to both his merchandise and the bustling city around him. His eagerness to help and apparently extensive knowledge of the local wares suggest that he is not just a vendor but a passionate ambassador of the city¡¯s vibrant culture.

¡°Never you mind ¡®im,¡± a voice calls from a stall across the road. ¡°I kin do better¡¯n fancy fruits and childish doodads,¡± the man says with a distinct East Sembian accent. A weathered, ruddy face wearing an eyepatch leans out to add, ¡°And at a better price as well.¡±

The welcoming Amnian merchant waves off the competitor with some colorful local language. ¡°´³³Ü¡¯²ú²¹°ù¾±±ô, mind your own, you lame Quasit. Keep your contraband for your Sahuagin Pirates, filthy swamp dog.¡±

Turning his attention back to you, he says, ¡°Come. I bring you tea. Look around. Mahta! Tea! We have guests!¡±?

A few moments later, a dark haired young woman also dressed in brightly colored layers brings out a silver tray of tea with several cups and a pile of roasted nuts.

And what do you do?

Sweet William examines the silk-clad popinjay (not Flynn -the other one). With a grunt, he strides over to Ju-Baril.
¡°What¡¯ve you got?¡± He asks, looking at the man¡¯s wares.

While she enjoyed finally meeting some of her kind, the pampered kitty was happy to be back in some form of civilization. As they walked, Tabby scanned the area. ¡°Yeah, we should be careful not to wander into some random pirate ship and become part of the forced labor.¡±

North looks around at all the merchandise. He looks awfully sad because he has no money.

He knows how long it might be before they find their way to another great merchant town like this and to be honest he has a bit of a shopping list.

"Maybe..." He pulls out the Green Potion from his pack. "Would you buy this from me?" He begins to barder. "Trade, perhaps?"

"I'm looking for magic items. Wands... Flying carpet would be top notch! Also a spyglass-- things for a sea voyage... but that awt to be easy in a town like this."

He holds back the urge to use magic to enhance his conversation. He drinks tea instead.

Perhaps some local delicacies or unique curios?¡±?His accent, thick yet melodious, underscores his genuine enthusiasm for his city and its treasures.

As you approach him, you notice how his eyes light up with curiosity and pride, revealing a deep connection to both his merchandise and the bustling city around him. OOC: Ugh, the last two days have not been fun for me ...?

IC: Cerina enjoys the sights and sounds of the port city. Hot tea with honey sounded good, not really knowing how much money she had on her, she looked to see which merchant might have any swords she could purchase or trade for ... seeing that she gave hers to the doppleganger, which dropped it and then the real Fenn picked it up ...?

North tells the merchant that the green potion is rare and induces a deathlike state.

He also rushed out the assortment of perfumes that the group found in the tomb that houses the silver River and brass boat.

"Some 'classic' scents to add to your shelves?" He nods and smiles.

OOC: how many attacks per round would he get with the maul?

Good question.

Your current axe also has the Swiftness enchantment.

Swiftness- as a Bonus Action, you may make one?additional?Attack with this weapon.

When Sweet William uses?Frenzy, he normally gets?one?Attack Roll as a Bonus Action, and suffers a level of exhaustion.?Swiftness?would mean?Frenzy?gets a?second?Attack Roll.?Or?you can avoid?Frenzy?and it¡¯s exhaustion and use the?one?Bonus Action from Swiftness as an Attack Roll instead.?

At level 5 Sweet William got the class feature Extra Attack.

And at level 3 Barbarians get Frenzy which allows an Attack as a bonus action.

So with your Axe of Swiftness, you get?

EITHER

Attack (one) and Extra Attack (two) as your Action, then Frenzy for a Bonus Action (three) and use Swiftness for a second Bonus Action (four) for four Attack Rolls with a Level of Exhaustion from Frenzy,?

OR?

Attack (one) and Extra Attack (two) as your Action, then use Swiftness for a Bonus Action (three) for three Attack Rolls without suffering exhaustion.?

With the Goliath Maul, you get

Attack (one) and Extra Attack (two) as your Action, then Frenzy for a bonus Action (three) with a Level of Exhaustion from Frenzy.

Sweet William pulls the Goliath mail out of the crate and holds it one handed at arm¡¯s length straight out from his body as steady as if it were part of a statue.
¡°Little light,¡± he says.
When the crippled old crook tells him 40 gp, he drops it back in the crate with a thunk that bounces nearby items on their shelves.
He looms over the merchant uncomfortably close and then slowly lowers his glowering, fanged, almost painfully ugly face until they are eye to eye. He lets a little crazy creep into is malevolent, bloodshot glare.
¡°Big and ugly don¡¯t mean stupid,¡± he growls. ¡°I¡¯d think you were trying to cheat me, but I¡¯m guessing you ain¡¯t that dumb. Forty gold for a lump of lead on a stick? North skews his face at the scene. He wouldn't want to be in the merchant's shoes right about now. He'll go as far as to magically make the perfumes/colognes/and potion bottle quiver slightly before hugging them in close to 'protect' them.
